Duck Sports Central (by Scott Reed) (2)
WEDNESDAY WAR ROOM: OREGON’S COMPETITION IS ABOUT TO GET EXPENSIVEThe Ducks spent the first half of fall camp creating options. After the first scrimmage, the next stage is deciding which players receive the repetitions, roles and trust that come with Saturdays. For most of August, Oregon could afford to talk about competition almost entirely in positive terms. Dan Lanning wanted six, seven or eight offensive linemen capable of winning football. Chris Hampton insisted nobody owned a starting position. Drew Mehringer called Oregon a meritocracy, while position coaches throughout the roster described depth as an opportunity to develop more players rather than a problem that needed to be solved immediately. The first scrimmage changed the equation because competition eventually has to produce consequences. Lanning explained afterward that Oregon would grade players on two questions, whether they were accountable enough to perform their responsibility and capable enough to physically execute it. Then he attached playing time to the answer. “If you’re not, then you’re going to get limited reps,” Lanning said. “If you do, then you’ll continue to grow on this team.” Wednesday War Room: Oregon’s competition is about to get...Oregon Ducks football, Dan Lanning, Oregon recruiting, college football, NIL, Big Ten, Pac-12, Scott Reed, Duck Sports Central, recruiting news

Would YOU Take a Few Minutes to Help This Forum?
As you know, the forum traffic is much slower because the vast majority are here during football season, and haven't found us yet. Many others have no way or understanding of how to find us, so I need a number of volunteers to... Make ten phone calls a day for ten days....that is it. If you chat with people, that is fine, but you can simply leave a voicemail message about the forum moving to a new web address, and I will provide a script to read off of, and the list for each of you. Each day will not take long, and if you want to do it in half the time or less--go for it! Can you help me out? There are a LOT of phone calls to make, and I can't make them all. We need to let people know, and the group email sent out twice did not work well. By letting these OBD forum members know where we are--you help yourself, and everyone here have a more enjoyable Oregon football season coming up. Can YOU help? Email me charlesfobd@gmail.com and PLEASE consider donating time for what could be not long for ten days. I do guarantee one thing; if you chat with people, you will make new friends who are wonderful Duck fans and people. Fun conversations, as I love this community. Help me Bring Them Back....

Scrumptious Scrimmage Surprises Not Reported....
You know me....if I can find some tasty tidbits out there--I lap them up and share what I can. This is not public information, and should probably be classified as "rumors," but I'll take it as any scrap of OBD entertainment with 2.5 weeks to wait. I cannot share all of it, but here are a few... Offensive Line: The position group most of us are watching closely, and apparently they are nowhere close to determining a depth chart beyond Poncho. They are moving players around to see who fits best, and looking for the chemistry of working well together. The word is that David luli has has sparse number of snaps, and thus other players have had a good shot. In Saturday's scrimmage--Douglas Utu, a sophomore guard from Las Vegas stood out, as did sophomore tackle Ziyare Addison...which is a surprise to me. I saw him get chewed up by our defensive line in the past, but that goes to show that freshmen get good coaching and improve! The rumor is that there may be starters that we do not expect due to an emphasis on chemistry over pure talent to start the season on the O-Line. Tight End: The surprising emerging player is not the transfer Marcus Dixon, or the 5-Star transfer from Penn State, Andrew Olesh. It is the true freshman, the 5-Star tight end and basketball player from North Carolina, Kendre' Harrison, who is 6'7" and 250 pounds. For some..."Greatness and Weakness Emerge Early." Running Back: Another surprise even bigger to me is what most would think is the 5th string running back from Fresno, true freshman Brandon Smith. Rumor is--he had a really good day, and has more speed and jukes that anticipated. In high school, he ran a 10.67 100 meter, and also played defense with 88 tackles last year...and FOUR interceptions. Sounds like quite an athlete at 6'0 and 190 pounds... Wide Receiver: The BIGGEST surprise of the scrimmage is a player you have watched me promote endlessly here....and about his physical tools and upside. Word is that Gatlin Bair had the MOST catches in the scrimmage, was thrown to often, and shouts high immediate upside and playing time. He is 6'3" and 205 pounds, runs a 10.15 100 meters, and jumps so high that the top of his head lines up with the basketball rim. He SHOUTS TOUCHDOWNS! And you know me...I maintain that all of us are 50/50 on our predictions, but when I am right...."you will never hear the end of it!"

DB? Or not DB? The only difference between 2nd-ranked Oregon and No. 1 Notre Dame is that Oregon will face decent teams and top QBs this season. CFB stats are affected (infected?) by a program's strength of schedule. The only team on ND's 2026 schedule with similar talent is Miami, and the game will be played in South Bend. https://athlonsports.com/college-football/college-footballs-top-20-defensive-back-units-for-2026?utm_source=Iterable&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=athlon_thearena&utm_content=&hashed_em

The 2026 Preseason AP Poll Is Out - 1st Impressions - Mine and I Hope Yours
Six potential challengers from outside the AP Preseason Poll top 5 usual suspects include 14 USC, 16 Michigan, and 17 UW. Indiana broke the code last season, rising from 20th in the 2025 preseason poll to winning it all, doing so without a Blue Chip Roster. CFB guru Phil Steele is particularly high on Michigan, with a future Hall of Fame coach in charge and an O-line and D-line ranked in the top 10 of Steele's position-group rankings. Boise State is predicted to overcome a tough schedule and take the G6 playoff spot. Four of the six teams cited in the article are on Oregon's schedule. Whew! Opponents in the Top 25 on the schedule, and Others Receiving Votes, in order of when games are scheduled to be played: Week 1 - 28 Boise State / Week 2 - At 34 Oklahoma State / Week 4 - At 14 USC / Week 8 - At 33 Illinois / Week 10 - At No. 1 Ohio State / Week 11-16 Michigan / Week 13 -17 Washington. Evidently tOSU Fans Aren’t Rocket Scientists and Like to Disrespect the Ducks.
Fans in general, and especially on message boards (excluding this one and few others) are general knuckleheads. There's no accountability, and you generally get little kids, or grown ups with Beavis and Butthead brain activity on there. It's why I always recommend to anybody going to a big road game, that they hold judgement of said fanbase till you go to a tailgating, or local sports bar. You'll meet real people, and most of the time they are awesome. Don't do what I said if you ever go to Europe for a "futbol" match. Opposing fans have separate get togethers, and stadium entrances/exits for a reason.

Gotta Love Cignetti...
In this day and age, Oregon is going to be a recruiting juggernaut regardless. I think Riley is a great offensive coordinator, but an okay CEO. If USC ever got a great CEO, that's when you should worry. I'd want Lincoln in LA for as long as possible as a Duck fan.

Oregon Dominates CBS Sports Preseason Honors with Dante Moore, Dan Lanning Leading the Way
Thanks, NJ. You are the Forum's Postest with the Mostest. 👌👍❤️ It looks like the memo finally reached CBS HQ, located in the Black Rock Building, 51 West 52nd Street, NYC, and CBSters finally understand that the SEC has left the building and the B1G boys have arrived. Dante at the top of the preseason QB pyramid, instead of some guy named after an island in the Caribbean, and a guy named after a hamburger joint with less than 24-carat golden Archies, is in sync with what NFL scouts have to say. When it comes to Dante, It Just Means Moore! I'm hoping Koi will indeed be a big fish in the Ducks' pond. I can't tell a lie: A'Mauri Washington and Brandon have a very good chance to Finney with the CFB Jackpot in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, I'll be here all weak. 😁

SI's Pat Forde Deep Dive Into CFB 2026 Schedules
"Two things matter in college football: your roster and your schedule." Coach Pepper Rodgers, RIP. It is most certainly not a fair fight when it comes to competing for a spot in a 12-team playoff, especially when losses count more in one conference than in another conference. Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, and USC all have tough schedule rows to hoe. One of Miami and Notre Dame, with Charmin Soft schedules, should finish 12-0 and the other 11-1. Trust 13-people doing their business in the dark to come up with the best 12 teams? I have a bridge I'd like to sell you. Here are a couple of OBD-oriented questions for Mr. Forde on the cusp of the 2026 season. SUBJECT: Warm weather teams in November? OK, OBD is located in moderate-climate Eugene, Oregon, and not Tucson or Miami, but games at Ohio State on 11/7 and at Michigan State on 11/20 will not be played on the beach. SUBJECT: Hangover Games? How about Michigan at home after playing Ohio State in Columbus? Washington at home after a Friday night game at Michigan State? At Illinois after a home game vs Nebraska with the Illini coming off a bye? And then there's UW at home after a Friday night game at Michigan State, with UW being the eighth game in a row without a break? No excuses. Beat Boise!
