Not the Start Oregon Wanted as No. 1 UCLA Run-Rules Ducks, 11-1 After Seven Innings

No. 1 UCLA (44-4) has the best pitching staff ERA at 3.30 and their hitting lineup has a number of first round MLB Draft players, including the presumed No. 1 player of Roch Cholowski at Shortstop. They will either start Easton Hawk at 1.74 ERA, or Waylon Moss, who is the National Pitcher of the Year Candidate with an ERA of 1.99 and it is tough either way.

Oregon (35-12) and No. 13 in the nation will counter with Will Sanford (3.64 ERA) and these type of games often bring out the best in the Ducks' pitching. I expect a very low-scoring and gritty game. Expect to see a ton of small-ball, as scoring runs will be difficult against the Bruin pitchers.

Fantastic that both tonight and tomorrow night games are on the Big-10 Network!

Huge series, hoping we can take 2 out three, but it will be a big ask. Might come down to if we can hold a lead late.

Oregon Ducks Baseball Adds Quarterback From the Football Team for Pivotal Series

As the No. 13 Oregon Ducks baseball team enters a critical stretch against the No. 1 UCLA Bruins and No. 18 USC Trojans, Oregon has added a member of the football team onto the baseball roster.

The Oregon Ducks are adding another two-sport athlete to their athletic department.

Quarterback Mark Wiepert was added to Oregon baseball’s roster as a catcher after the conclusion of spring football practice.

The move reunites Wiepert with the sport many originally expected him to play at the collegiate level before his recruitment shifted toward football.

2-0 UCLA after one inning. Not a good start for Oregon's Will Sanford...

2-0 UCLA after two innings. Oregon's Will Sanford...did much better with a 1-2-3 inning.

6-0 UCLA after three innings. Hoo-boy....this is getting ugly already, and I thought we had our best chance at a win tonight if Will Sanford pitched his best.

Nope.

8-1 UCLA after four innings. Geez, Sanford got replaced, but not by Tanner Bradley, but by a true freshman in Jonah Barkoff, who has only pitched two innings this season?

That is the white flag to me; Coach Waz is saving his best relievers for when the game is attainable....IMHO.
