Vertical Shot RPOs in the Oregon Spring Game

Featured Replies

No.

Did anyone notice that the shot play on Evan Stewart’s spring game TD was actually an RPO.

Adding vertical shots to RPOs will help the screen style RPOs. Defenders will have to be weary of being beaten over top.

Play is at 14:43

Coach Boles! So great to have you post again on the Our Beloved Ducks forum, and I did not notice that before, but yep--you nailed it. The mesh really pulled the LBs and Safeties inside, and gave Stewart that much more open space. Nice catch by you!

I am going to go through the Spring Game again for observations, and would love any more that you have. (And do read the top pinned post in red, so you can find us when we move the forum to a new web address shortly.)

I really like vertical shots on RPOs. In fact, I wish we’d use the TE pop RPO again. I don’t think we’ve seen that since Moorhead.

Should see a nice ROI in the perimeter screen game too, as defenders will be stressed not to be beaten over top, creating just that much hesitation.
