Rivals Scouting Report on Anthony Cartwright

Allen Trieu: Has the size and athletic tools to be able to handle a variety of responsibilities on the football field. Basketball and baseball backgrounds allow him to track the ball and make plays on the ball in the air. Is capable after the catch too for a bigger guy. Has natural strength and tools to be an effective blocker but still needs additional technical development there. Can move around a formation and be effective in the slot and split out. Can still get more explosive and add to his top end but is able to stretch the field some. Has dealt with some injuries in his high school career and staying healthy will be key for his college success.

My initial thoughts on Cartwright.

Oregon added another important piece to its 2027 class on Sunday with the commitment of Detroit Country Day tight end Anthony Cartwright III.

Cartwright is a 6-foot-4.5, 235-pound tight end from Michigan who chose the Ducks over a strong final group that included Miami, LSU, Michigan and Michigan State. This was a significant win for Oregon not just because of the player, but because of where the Ducks won the recruitment. Oregon went into Big Ten territory, beat both in-state programs for a highly regarded local target and continued to show that its recruiting reach is truly national.

The fit also makes a lot of sense. Cartwright gives Oregon a big, versatile pass-catching tight end who can move around the formation, create matchup problems and develop into the kind of multi-use offensive piece the Ducks have emphasized under Dan Lanning. His relationship with Drew Mehringer and Jack Smith was a major part of the recruitment, and Oregon’s usage of tight ends, especially the way Kenyon Sadiq has been developed and featured, helped make the offensive vision clear.

Cartwright becomes Oregon’s second tight end commit in the 2027 class, joining George VanSandt, and that likely gives the Ducks the two-man tight end group they wanted. With that position now in strong shape, Oregon can turn even more attention toward other major targets still on the board, including Tae Walden Jr. and Hayden Stepp, who are expected to announce next week.

Overall, this is another strong national recruiting win for Oregon and another example of the Ducks building the 2027 class with a clear plan rather than simply stacking commitments.

Cartwright, is one of the more interesting offensive projections in the 2027 class.

He is listed as a tight end, but his high school film shows much more than a traditional inline player. Detroit Country Day moved him around as a receiver, slot target, H-back, red-zone weapon and even occasional short-yardage option. The size is obvious, but what makes Cartwright intriguing is the combination of ball skills, catch radius and ability after the catch.

This is not just a big body. It is a big skill player Oregon can develop into a true matchup problem.

The Oregon Ducks came into the Summer needing to go on a run on the recruiting trail if Dan Lanning was going to keep the streak of signing a top 5 ranked recruiting class alive. The coaching staff has used the string of official visits to quickly flip the narrative around this recruiting class, as Oregon is now up to 21 commitments. Sunday was another incredible day for the staff as Oregon picked up a commitment from 4-star TE Anthony Cartwright III.

After landing Anthony Cartwright III, Oregon will quickly turn it's attention toward sealing other commitments. The start of July looks to be the most promising time for the program as the Ducks are trending for a trio of elite targets.

Tae Walden Jr - Cornerback

Coming into the final weekend of Official Visits, it was exciting for Oregon to get Tae Walden Jr on campus, but it seemed like other schools were the clear front runner. Instead, Oregon didn't let the opportunity go to waste, and now, heading into Tae Walden Jr's announcement, it appears that Dan Lanning and the Ducks have the upper hand. It won't take long to see if Tae Walden is indeed heading to Eugene, as he'll announce his commitment on July 1st, which has the potential to be a massive day for the Ducks.

Hayden Stepp - Cornerback

Ever since Ai'King Hall flipped to Miami and Donte Wright chose the Hurricanes over the Ducks, Hayden Stepp has been the clear top priority on the recruiting trail for Oregon. This Summer, Alabama seemed to have the lead for Hayden Stepp, but his official visit to Eugene seemingly turned the tides in favor of the Ducks. Stepp will be announcing his commitment on July 1st at the Rivals Summer Signing Day, event where everyone expects Oregon to seal the deal.

Xavier Sabb - Wide Receiver

The recruitment of Xavier Sabb has turned into a matter of when he'll commit to Oregon rather than if he'll pick the Ducks. While the two older Sabb brothers are currently playing for Kalen DeBoer at Alabama, Xavier Sabb is looking to pave his own path, and Oregon looks to be the team best positioned to land the commitment. Sabb hasn't set an official commitment date, but when he does announce, the Ducks will be picking up a 5-star recruit with an exciting chance to make an impact as soon as he lands in Eugene.

Where Oregon Ducks rank nationally after 4-star TE addition

The Oregon Ducks are continuing their strong run in the recruiting world, and there seems to be a good chance that the hot streak continues over the next several weeks. On Sunday, Dan Lanning's 2027 class got a big addition on the offensive side of the ball, with 4-star tight end Anthony Cartwright announcing his commitment to Oregon.

Cartwright stands at 6-foot-5, 235 pounds, and is rated as the No. 408 player and No. 20 TE in the nation. He chose Oregon over the Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans, Miami Hurricanes, and LSU Tigers.

Cartwright is now the 21st member of the Ducks' 2027 class, but Oregon wasn't able to jump up any higher in the national recruiting rankings after his addition. The Ducks still sit at No. 6 in the nation, just behind the Texas Longhorns and ahead of the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Oregon does have the No. 1 class in the Big Ten so far this cycle, with the Ohio State Buckeyes right behind them at No. 8 in the nation.

Over the next several weeks, we could see major decisions from guys like 5-star WR Xavier Sabb and 5-star OL Ismael Camara, both of whom are high on the Ducks.
