Hats Off to the O Line

I'm no expert on O line play and will listen to the more knowledgeable experts on the subject like Charles. I can only talk about what I observe and what I saw this week was a line that finally looked comfortable doing it's job. With a QB more comfortable in the pocket the offense finally looked comfortable doing what it sets out to do.

The Buckeyes worst performance of the year had been in a 30 point defeat to USC last year. Before that was 24 to Texas. No one else had even cracked 20 including Indiana. If the line continues this trajectory, the Ducks will be a dangerous team. If the seas manage to part and a path to the playoffs develops, things could get interesting.

No sacks given up to Ohio State is great, but run-blocking has a checkered result. Some great, some awful....

They are continuing to improve, but we are not "there" yet, IMHO. But they could be by postseason time!

Second and 10 all day long was troublesome but they managed do deal with more times than not.

Charles is correct that it is hit and miss for the line.

Run plays between the center and guards just arent very successful. Neither are plays that take time to develope.

Pin and pull plays off tackle are generating chunk gains

Rewatch the game and you will see 2 or 3 lineman blocking downfield.

To win against the big SEC teams in the CFP it is important to have an inside power run game. Blocking for run plays, hopefully improves. Forcing the linebackers to stay tight will open so much open field for the skill guys.

Pass blocking has improved. DR has had more time to find his target and make most throws.

Jay Johnson's play calling has not fooled opponents early in both games. However, he has made the right adjustments and 85 points in 2 games bears that out.

Also, giving DR quick throws to assigned targets has produced no sacks and no picks the last 2 games. That takes pressure off the line.

Simplifying DR's reads to half the field has been beneficial.

Michigan does not surrender many points. Let's hope the line play keeps improving and OBD's puts 30 plus points on the board.

Go Ducks.
