2026 Football Poll Rankings
A breakdown of the number of games a top 25 team is scheduled to play against other top 25 teams. 1. SMU and Texas Tech - B12 2. BYU, Clemson, Houston, Miami, and Utah - ACC and B12 3. Iowa, Notre Dame, and Penn State - Notre Dame and two B1G, evidencing Iowa and Penn State's luck of the draw and Notre Dame drawing up its own schedule. We will not have to endure a South Bend pity party in 2026. 4. Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Oregon, and Tennessee - Georgia's schedule is far from easy, but the Dawgs get a deserved break after the very difficult schedules in 2024 and 2025. One-third of defending champion Indiana's and Oregon's schedules will feature games against Coaches Poll top-25 teams. Indiana plays 1. Ohio State and 14. USC at home. Away games at No. 16 Michigan and No. 19 Washington. Oregon plays 1. Ohio State and 14 USC on the road. Home games against No. 16 Michigan and 19 Washington. Washington. The same opponents as Indiana but in different locales. 5. Missouri, Mississippi, USC, and Washington - Two B1G and two SEC. Do the Trojans and the Huskies have the roster depth to handle tough schedules? Missouri is ranked only because a team has to be No. 25, so why not an SEC team? Even with Trindad Chambliss at QB, Ole Miss is a borderline PO team. 6. LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M - Two B1G and three SEC. 7. Texas - The 7-game Lone Ranger comes from the Lone Star state. The pressure is on Sark and Golden Archie. Win against Ohio State at home in Week 2; well, you were supposed to win. Lose, and how will this affect the Horns the rest of the season? No. 1 Ohio State and No. 4 Texas will do well to finish with these rankings on December 6th. 19. Penn State and 22. Iowa are legitimate PO dark horses. No. 8 Texas A&M and No. 9 Oklahoma will not, IMO, finish in the top 10. Like all preseason rankings, the Coaches poll is a best guess of how the season will play out, weighted in favor of brand names and the Power 2. The PO committee's final poll will be released on December 6th. Until then, claiming a win over a ranked opponent is speculation. (Are you listening down in Dixie?) Even so, this exercise points out the disparate scheduling for top 25 teams, in and out of conference. Is there any reason to believe that in 2026 the PO Committee will not (except for Alabama) simply count wins and losses with only lip service given to strength of schedule?

Lanning's Mount Rushmore of Ducks
Pretty much any Duck coach from Brooks on had coached the 2019 team instead of Mario, they would have won a championship and both Herbert and Dye would be on the Mount.

Reporting for Media Day…
Thank you. Given practices are basically closed forever, I am hoping to give fans something a little deeper about the team during camp abd later the season. I will still have plenty of premium articles, but I think fans deserve something "free" that gives them insights without violating our trust with the staff and media department.

Here is my story following practice today. Three practices into fall camp, Oregon is balancing creativity with execution around Dante Moore, a deep group of playmakers and competition everywhere. “It’s a meritocracy. You’ve got to go out and earn it.” https://www.ducksportscentral.com/2026/08/drew-mehringer-its-meritocracy-youve.html

Lanning's Mount Rushmore of Ducks
Pretty tough! These having not been mentioned so far is wild: Van Brocklin, Fouts, Miller, Musgrave, Royce, DeForest, Bobby Moore, Wheaton. Royce is actually our all time rusher and total TDs leader, talk about under the radar.

Mel Renfro was a phenomenal. Haloti, Marcus, & Joey or DeAnthony (Joey's game against Colorado in Fiesta) would round out my top 4.

Lanning's Mount Rushmore of Ducks
I think you can throw Bryce in the Roosevelt slot. Hometown kid that overcame adversity of a walk on to the NFL Draft. He was the heart of the Duck D last year. He wasn't the best LB Ducks have had but as a total pkg on and off the field, he meant so much to that team

Is SC a Rival?
I would love for USC to become a rival. They have played some dirty pool in the conf realignment. Their shenanigans trying to crush Oregon in smokey back room deals is disgusting. I just don't see them as a rivalry game at this point. Trojan has spent the better part of 2 decades whining about Oregon. And Duck fans have spent the the time laughing at Trojan. The B1G should stoke the flames and schedule them every year late. Until then, for me, it falls short of a rivalry

College football archenemies for every power-conference team - ESPN ESPN pegged USC as Oregon's archnemesis, which personally feels way off the mark. But their pick for UW? Chef's kiss.
