Gernorris Wilson back and ready to fight for starting job after missing spring with foot injuryThe broken foot not only cost him the team's final six games, but also all of spring practice. Wilson, who expects to practice fully when fall camp opens on Wednesday, acknowledges that this past spring was his toughest since arriving in Eugene in 2023. ‌ "It was hard. It was really really hard," he started. "It's something you've been doing for a long, long time, so when it gets taken away from you, you have a lot of appreciation for it and just to be around it, is a blessing." That time lost happened to come smack dab in what is arguably the most important offseason of his career. A season ago, Wilson was one of two reserve offensive tackles to start games as fill-ins. This year the Ducks are replacing both starting tackles, presenting Wilson with a shot to finally step into a full-time starting role as a redshirt junior. ‌ "I'm feeling pretty good. Media Day Sets Stage For Start Of Fall CampOregon coach Dan Lanning and many of his players met with local media Monday, two days before opening preseason practice. At the western edge of Oregon's athletics facilities north of campus rises the football program's new indoor practice facility, the skeleton of which looms over passing cars and pedestrians. Construction continues on the project, just as it does on the football program that will eventually inhabit it. Work on the 2026 football team began with winter conditioning and progressed through spring practice. Great article David, and I am not sure I agree with your conclusion about the OC/DCs going anywhere at the end of the season. If our offense does what I believe it WILL do, then Mehringer could get a serious look IF…we win a ‘Natty. After all…he was an OC twice before, and if this third time is a big winner…what more does he need? Kinda interesting that Tosh can now be in his optimal position; not running a defense, but recruiting, which is his wheelhouse.

Agree. Recruiting at such a high level year to year is a huge advantage. The tp will thin depth for sure. But I think the teams that recruit top 5, perhaps 10, will still dominate the sport most years. We will still have outlier making/winning the NC. Oregon had 2 teams play for the NC, should have been 3 (2001), with lesser talent from a recruiting standpoint across the board. IU did it last year. The beauty of today's cfb is that more talent will spread out and we will get better football. No longer are a handfull of team able to hoard talent.
