Gotta Love Cignetti...
To me, Vig and the Hoosier fan base are incredibly annoying. Jealousy? Some for sure. They could learn to win with a little more grace. Hope they get stomped into the dirt every week until they do.

Gotta Love Cignetti...
I still don't see why ND should get such a guarantee. Let them join a conference and fight it out the way other teams do.

Besides being unapologetically blunt about his success, and conference pride. The man just said Indiana would help out little brother Notre Dame, by scheduling them in a two for one. Just like any B1G opponent would for any other G6 program. Well he got the last part wrong. No MAC, WAC, or Pac-12 school outside of Oregon State or Washington State, is getting any home games vs a B1G opponent. But I love the sentiment. We all love USC vs Notre Dame as a spectacle. But USC was right to take a hiatus. That game could knock USC out of a playoff spot, while Notre Dame will still be safely in with their new top 12 guarantee, and that's almost a given with them assured of ten wins a year against their soft schedule. Meanwhile USC could be facing Oregon, Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and Notre Dame in the same year.

PRACTICE 10 REPORT: OREGON TURNS ITS FIRST SCRIMMAGE INTO A TEST OF RESPONSEThe quarterbacks showed situational command, the defensive line’s next wave continues to emerge, and a team that has talked all summer about becoming player-led delivered what Tony Tuioti called an “elite” Monday after its first fall scrimmage. There are plenty of ways to evaluate a scrimmage. Dan Lanning gave Oregon two of them Saturday when he said every player would eventually be judged on whether he was accountable and capable, but the more revealing test may have arrived roughly 48 hours later. Not to mention missing 38 and 34 yard FGs in the 2024 loss to rival Michigan. Yet, to this day, you can't find a tOSU fan who will even consider the idea that Flemming doesn't run onto the field and drop a 43 yard FG right down the middle with time expiring to win that 2024 game in that environment at Autzen.

Marsh Duck - The 24 Team Playoff Will be Bad But Popular
David, make no mistake. I respectfully disagree with the number of PO teams. The article was well written, and your point captures the attitude of millions of CFB fans when it comes to PO expansion. I want more inclusion, and as Charles notes, in this NIL era, many games that look to be blowouts on paper will be competitive. Looking at the AP Poll, I do not see a great deal of difference between the 12th and the 24th ranked teams, and there are simply too few data points to exclude teams with similar records. The PO committee is win-loss fixated and SEC ranking-centric, based on what it perceives to be a brutal SEC conference game gauntlet like no other. Eight on-campus games will replace conference championship weekend, eliminate a 13th game most ADs and coaches do not want to play, and allow teams to prove their bona fides or show that they were underrated. I think No. 24 JMU at No. 9 Bama last season could have been a very interesting game. Same with No. 20 Tulane at No. 14 Vanderbilt. I'm retired; you're working for a living, and your job performance will echo for decades. I'm grateful that you take the time to write and share your articles with us on the Forum. Keep the articles coming, please.

The 2026 Preseason AP Poll Is Out - 1st Impressions - Mine and I Hope Yours
Mark Twain has allowed me to edit a bit of his lovely phrase when speaking of the SEC. "There are lies, damned lies, and the SEC." The SEC spokespeople and those at ESPN are trying SO hard to explain away the declining status of the conference as a fog of understanding by the voters. Best of luck, boys. Later, there might even be arguments that a 4-loss Texas team should make the playoffs. Yep. GO DUCKS!

Marsh Duck - The 24 Team Playoff Will be Bad But Popular
Marsh-Monday! I am with Jon on this one, as I think the 24 team playoff could have SO MANY fans of so-many schools that now have shot at the playoffs that didn’t before. It will create so many intense close games, as I disagree with your “lousy games” assertion because NIL and the portal have balanced things out for a ton of teams. Sure, some teams will have more talent, but they have to PLAY superior on game day. That why I worry about games like Michigan after playing Ohio State, and playing a good team like Illinois on their home field. You could make a case that NIL and the portal have changed things for USC, and with 24 teams getting in… more motivation for more teams. The lineup of games to watch this fall with great coaches in the Big-10 is NEVER like before. Are we READY?!!

Marsh Duck - The 24 Team Playoff Will be Bad But Popular
I think this is more of a matter of ranking problems. Of which I agree the rankings are awful. The B1G is grossly misrepresented and the SEC and Big 12 are both over represented. Yes.. the Big 12 has only put a total of 2 teams in the 12 team field but I think they're hard pressed to make a reasonable argument for more representation. I feel 16 teams could be good. But 24 just feels ridiculous. I have some alternative ideas for future articles. Also... This isn't my best. The draft was sitting there since June and I finally put it out there. I was too busy last week.

Why I'm Buying Early Hype Around Oregon Ducks Receiver Gatlin BairThe Oregon Ducks deep wide receiver room leaves room for Gatlin Bair to be overlooked, but fans need to dive deep into what he has to offer. The Oregon Ducks have a plethora of wide receivers worthy of playing time this season, and a limited number of reps that they can give out. However, former five-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair, who is entering his first season with the Ducks program, has a chance to stand out. For those unfamiliar, Bair attended Burley High School in Idaho, which is around eight hours away from the University of Idaho. It isn't a very popular high school; however, Bair put the school on the map with his electric playstyle and physical traits. Bair is more than the average one-dimensional wide receiver, as he is a rare mix of speed and size. In fact, the talented prospect finished as a top runner in the nation and in the state as a whole. The track star posted a high time of 10.15 in the 100-meter and 20.47 in the 200-meter, according to 247Sports. He also measures in at 6-1.5 and 195 pounds, according to Rivals. Marsh Duck - The 24 Team Playoff Will be Bad But Popular
Thank you, David. One of the few times I disagree with you. Iowa was 8-4 in the regular season and defeated 10-2 Vanderbilt in Dixie. 9-3 Illinois topped Tennessee in Nashville. Illinois rarely sniffed the top 25 during the season while the Vols were regular participants. Using the committee's final poll, a 12-team PO gave us 3 B1G and 5 SEC teams. A 16-team field would have seen 3 B1G teams and 7 SEC teams. The AO Poll has 5 SEC teams ranked between No. 6 Indiana and No. 14 USC. In the last two seasons, the Big Ten is 10-2 versus the SEC. Tony Petitti is not falling for this rope-a-dope. 16 teams would be fine with automatic qualifiers, but Tony backed off the AC requirement, which is why he insists on 24, and every conference and Notre Dame agree on 24. ESPN waterboy Greg Sankey is the lone holdout. Wait to see what happens this season when 3-loss SEC teams are left out of the field. With nine conference games, there will be several 3-loss SEC teams. To stave off further CFB consolidation, the PO has to be more inclusive. More than one ACC and B12 team has to be in the mix; they need the dues. A 24-team field will result in better out-of-conference matchups, including the possibility of an annual B1G vs SEC challenge. Cha-Ching! To ease your concern, consider this: The Big Ten's proposed format is a 16-team PO with eight on-campus play-in games. And having 2nd-round games played on campus rewards the better teams and their fans. But the conference champ game money! A red herring; flex schedule and play the champ game the final week of the regular season. The 24-team format has the season ending far earlier than January 25th and also eliminates long waiting periods between games. If a 24-team field is adopted, perhaps others will listen to another common-sense proposal from Tony. Signing day, the portal opening, and new coach hires will not happen before the PO is concluded. Thanks again for another Monday with Marsh.

The 2026 Preseason AP Poll Is Out - 1st Impressions - Mine and I Hope Yours
The 2026 Preseason AP Poll has been released. From now until the Playoff Committee's first reveal on Tuesday, November 3rd, these will be the rankings in common use. Will the 2026 season be a circus? It does start with a B1G Top: Ohio State is ranked first and Oregon 2nd. Ohio State has been ranked 1st before, but this is rare air for Our Beloved Ducks. You'll note that the Bucks received 41 1st-place votes; Oregon received 14. Make room on the Bulletin Board! Ohio State returns a whole lot of firepower on offense, including the best WR in college football, a Heisman finalist QB, and four starters on the O-line. But did you see those guys playing like Matadors against Indiana and Miami? OLE! Ohio State is always stocked with talent, but a bevy of Buckeyes on the 2025 team are now playing in the NFL. And the schedule goes from 'manageable' to one of the most difficult in all of college football. This question is for the Bucks and the Ducks: is there a kicker in the house? Ohio State made an excellent late-game drive to set up a chippy field-goal attempt that would have taken the conference champ game into OT. No Good. Ohio State had a good 1st half drive against Miami in the Cotton Bowl that was stalled, and the kicker biffed an easy attempt. Make no mistake, Ohio State will be a very tough out for any opponent, but for the Buckeyes to receive 27 more first-place votes than Oregon? Coming at you, Brute, on 11/7. The top three vote-getters, Ohio State, Oregon, and Georgia, mirror the Coaches Poll ranking. Notre Dame moves up from five to No. 4, and Texas drops from 4th to 5th. Six SEC teams are in the Top-12 Playoff zone, along with Ohio State, Oregon, No. 6 Indiana, No. 4 Notre Dame, No. 7 Miami, and 12 Texas Tech. Number 11-ranked LSU, up two spots from its Coaches Poll ranking, would be knocked out of the Playoff by No. 12-ranked Texas Tech, moving up to the PO 11th seed, with the highest-ranked G6 team, 34th-ranked Boise State, being the PO's 12th seed. This would be delicious. 😁 I'm certain that Lane Kiffin and the always reasonable and respectful LSU fans would gratefully accept an invite to the Mayonnaise Bowl. And a 12-team PO field would be all good. Nine SEC teams are ranked in the Top 25, eight B1G teams, four B12 teams, three ACC teams, and Notre Dame. The AP voters put their stamp on college football having an upper tier of the Big Ten, the SEC, Notre Dame, and then eight other conferences. Clemson, ranked 23rd in the Coaches Poll, is ranked 26th in the AP Poll. Illinois is ranked 33rd, Minnesota 38th, and Week 2 opponent Oklahoma State is ranked 34th. There is a B1G drop from Indiana, ranked No. 6, to No. 14 USC, No. 16 Michigan, No. 17 Washington, No. 18 Penn State, and No. 22 Iowa. Five SEC teams are ranked between Indiana and USC. The AP voters have put their stamp on the SEC being the deepest conference in college football. The SEC will receive too much conference strength-of-schedule love, perpetuating the deeper-conference myth. The last two times No. 13 Alabama played No. 16 Michigan, the Tide lost. In 2024, No. 14 USC defeated No. 11 LSU and No. 8 Texas A&M. As John Adams noted, facts are inconvenient things. In 2024 and 2025, the Big Ten went 10-2 versus the SEC. What better evidence is there of the B1G closing in on and arguably surpassing the SEC since the NIL college football paradigm shift, exacerbated by unregulated free agency? Your Forum Honors, I humbly submit 'Exhibit B': Saint Nick left town. No one should be surprised the next time an SEC team wins a Natty. There are many good football programs in the SEC, and money is not an issue at LSU, Texas, and other programs. But to ignore the evidence based on bombastic claims from That Other Commissioner Down South, well ... So be it. I'll take our guy who speaks softly and carries a B1G stick.
