I would argue AB wasn't ready yet either, but he kept getting reps with the 1's. We need to see Ty out there with the 1's getting reps, and getting ready for next season. We have to play to win this season, but with an eye on next season, both can be done. AB is playing well, it is time to have him share some playing time with the back-ups in certain situations. Starting this week have Ty practice a few specific plays he can be successful at with the 1's. Set him up for success, because we don't know when we will need him, and I agree he doesn't look ready. AB is the leader and is looking like he can lead us to the end of the season, but we need a back-up ready for this season and next.

The next star running back, he is actually only averaging 10 yds. a carry, not 18 yds, for the season. I certainly was joking, the young man looks like the real deal, and with Mr. McGee we seem to have replacements for both our seniors, but not all of them are ready. I would say they have the potential to both be upgrades, with all due respect to Dye and Verdell. What we need now is more playing time for all the back-ups who will be taking over for the seniors at critical positions. For Cardwell and McGee it will be easy to blend in there playing time. Dye still can be the feature back. Just keep playing them like they did yesterday, there wasn't much of a drop off, as stated, 18 yds per carry, wow. With Ty he needs to be put in there for one or two set plays he practices all week. Put him in, and let him see what live action football looks like, but set him up for success with the 1's. If he starts against Georgia, in Atlanta, after playing with the 2's and 3's and struggling we haven't set him up properly for success. His one reception, other than the interception, was to a walk-on they had in the game. We have to play for this season, I agree. It doesn't mean we have to be blind to what is going to happen next season. These young guys are capable of being the next stars, but you have to let them shine a little.

If you want to get Ty some playing time you play your number 1 defense while you do it. If it was a priority to get Ty some playing time put him in with the 1's, and let him get use to moving the ball. Right now if AB goes down we aren't ready to have our next man up. It may not be like when Dennis Dixon went down, but we don't have a back-up ready to go, and we should. It isn't just because we have a tough schedule next year starting out, we need somebody ready to step in and Ty doesn't seem ready. Maybe Mario and Moorhead were setting him up to fail to calm the crowd? I say let him in there with the 1's and get him ready, that may have been the last opportunity until next season in Georgia, yikes!

What I love about AB is he is tough. The guy runs tough, blocks, and just never gives up. I thought the guy would get injured or play a bit timid, not at all! It is not a time to point out weaknesses, what do you love about AB?

From the couch, you keep the first team defense in so you can play the second team offense. The second team defense is getting plenty of reps, we need to get the back-ups on offense on the field!

The question................. when does the back-up come in? Bring on the future!

I would say he is our guy on a journey figuring out how to be the best coach, and it isn't pretty, very often.

The positive, Mario wanted to be aggressive and let Moorhead go for the jugular. In the past, maybe Mario was being aggressive, but he would have limited that to aggressively attacking the line, in one spot. The negative Moorhead thought he should go for the jugular with an aggressive play with AB. I agree an aggressive play, in that situation is going for a first down with a pass, inbounds. This also calls into question Moorheads' understanding of AB limitations, and understanding the situation, very troubling. Worse case scenario, Mario goes back to calling the plunge, scary. The extreme negative, AB only saw the jugular pass on that play. This further confirms my bias that Anthony Brown doesn't see the whole field, just the play called, and the primary intended receiver. We need a qb who can see the whole field and process a dynamic situation, not an easy thing to do. Thankfully we may have a few guys on the sideline with that exact DNA, hopeful. We also need a coach who wants a dynamic qb. Maybe Mario and Joe love that Anthony sticks to the primary receiver, number one choice on an RPO. I certainly hope Mario and Joe aren't dumbing down our young qb's before they see the field, scary. I will say teams have lost, up by 10, with 3:00 minutes on the clock, with the other team having the ball. I would put Chip, along with Whittingham and Smith, as a coaches, I wouldn't want in that situation on the opposing sideline, also scary. No team has ever lost with possession of the ball, up by 3, and the clock running out, hopeful for the future. That is if we can get past this scary halloween weekend.

But what happens when you end up 0-1 against an inferior opponent. I don't get the 1-0 mentality. Win the day, stay focused on the process, I get. The idea you should think you are 1-0 just doesn't resonate, for me. I won't pull any punches, I just don't like it. I actually like the Navy Seal mentality, 'Yesterday Was The Easy Day,' think on that one.

Which game is going to be the toughest going into the latter half of our schedule? There is always the dawgs, and the cougs, but both programs seem to be in a state of disarray. Both games will be important, but I think we can pull off wins. The last two games are going to be tough. At Utah isn't going to be easy. Kyle knows how to coach, although Oregon has owned Utah recently, still scary. The OSU game is the toughest game in my opinion. The Championship game is a week away and it will be hard for these players to stay focused being at home. The beavs will come in playing like their whole season is on the line. Smith is also a very good coach, which also gives me pause. Maybe we shouldn't look past the buffs, but why not!

As long as I don't have to watch 9 overtimes of two teams who can't move the ball or score, like watching paint dry, I'll be good waiting a little to see Oregon play Colorado.

Agree watching Bassa play was a revelation. Sometimes a player gets on the field and just yells gamer! Bassa for four years is going to be fun to watch, wherever he ends up. Almost seem like a TJ Ward type player. It will be fun to see who he becomes!

My prediction Ty takes over with a lead and boat races the buffs!

Let me be the first to try and answer the updated question. I hope he pulled out that play sheet a while ago and doesn't pull it out anytime soon. I think this speaks to the incredibly complex set of variables a coach has to deal with come game day. Cristobal is the emotional leader on the sideline. I can't even count the number of situations which need to be managed. From substitutions to, what he seems to like his favorite, referee management. A coach can't effectively do it all. He has to pick his battles. I hope he sticks to a few duties and shows the growing trust, he seems to have, in his assistants. Keep them accountable, but don't try and do too much!

Great article, and I agree Moorhead should stay up in the booth. You can't argue with the outcome and it may be best for his health and all of our health. The one question is why would Cristobal need a laminated play sheet if he only wants to call one play?

I think we improved over last year and if we do that again we just might get back to where we want, think we should be! You guys might have been looking too far!

We need AB to keep driving straight ahead, no turns. I mean we are 6-1 and we are trying to turn a corner? I can actually start to make something out pretty nice, and it is straight ahead, off in the distance. Straight ahead please!

Uniform, meaning consistent and steady then I would have to list my favorite quarters of play. The problem with the Ducks this season has been all about whether or not there is uniform output from the players and coaches. From injuries, to scheme, to just bewildering decisions the players haven't given us uniformity yet, nor the coaches, and I won't get into the refs. I will say if we get uniform production from the leadership, Cristobal, Thibs, and even AB, this season can become one of the greats. We must not focus on the uniforms, but the coordination of play and effort by the unit which is the Oregon Football Program. I guess if you really want to see the best uniform and how to do it, then Puddles giving the stiff arm has to be the uniform of the season.

The photo is almost as good as that tackle was. Bassa created leverage and stopped him on his own, amazing tackle by the freshman. One of the best tackles and photos I have seen this season! I do love the pick and Chip sideline photo!

It does make you wonder just how good he is. Is he a Canton, all world at the high school level, but just can't make the next level work? He may be homesick, or just sick of competing. College football isn't easy and maybe he just wants to get away from it all. I guess it speaks to the wild world of college football and the expectations when the rubber meets the road. I am sure there is a lot of coddling until a student athlete gets on campus. Some kids like the Dyes, Sewells and hopefully the Flowes just love to compete. Others just can't move past what was, and what they really liked about being a top recruit. I can't get after the kid too much, bring on Kelvin!

Thanks for sharing, the ultimate badge of honor, frustrating the top lineman in football. I doubt Donald does this to too many O-lineman, mostly just waves as he goes by and through them. Penei's play screams Pro Bowl, Hall of Fame type career at the NFL level, well done!

Every programs coaching hires are important. Every fan bases support for their coach is important. SC doesn't have an AD who knows how to hire a coach who can win in LA. The question will be does he fall into a great hire, because the lists and prospects aren't good. The other aspect is the AD and fanbase have made the job a very unattractive place to coach. Who in their right mind would leave a good, appreciated job to sit on a seat, which is already hot? They are going to have to hire somebody who wants to rebuild their reputation, end of story. That coach is then going to have to do a complete rebuild of the many aspects needed for a successful program, good luck with that one. This all adds up to a bonus for the Oregon program. I think, sooner rather than later, the top prospects are going to see through the glare coming off the program, and see it is coming off mirrors, a simple smoke and mirror show. It could be argued that is already happening. Oregon is The Program on the west coast, we win, still have a allure which hopefully we preserve, and build on as Cristobal's tenure continues to grow. The AD and fanbase need to keep fostering this growth, while understanding the process.
