  1. Always start/play your best players available on game day. I can't imagine a coach doing anything differently unless the game is meaningless or as a result of a blowout score or the threat of injury warrants not playing the best. Players need to earn their right to play. Another question could be asked. What kind of message would be sent if the best player isn't allowed to play?
  2. I'm not understanding why this is a separate thread with the same title but with dashes.
  3. Trust is very hard to earn and keep. As a fan, I have to trust Mullens. After thinking about how much emotion and energy goes into the discussions regarding CFB hires, recruits, game management, and play calling, I wondered how many of us even know who is driving our kids and grandkids (who probably are not wearing seatbelts) around in a school bus. I have to trust the process and the people who administer the process, including the handling of those outsiders that try to manipulate it.
  4. He could have finished out the season. He could have had some highlight reel plays had he stayed. BTW, "we" know they weren't one of the top 3 best teams, but they were rated #3. I feel like you are splitting hairs. So by being "rated" 3 at the time, there was a possibility they could get in to the CFP. Had AB played against Utah like he did OSU, the Ducks 'might' have have pulled out a miracle and be in it and Pittman could have been a hero. But he quit.
  5. The only issue I really have is with how this thread is titled as if it is, with all certainty, a done deal. I'm strongly considering taking a break from OBD and wait until Mullens has an announcement to make. My little Duck heart can only get yanked so far so many times. I'll be back...probably in 5 minutes!!!! LOL
  6. Big belly laugh...I think because I know I'm not supposed to laugh? LOL When I start to get emotional, I deflect by turning to humor. Sometimes it's a bit dark. Still working on stuff. I do appreciate this forum a great deal. It's even a safe place for non Duck fans as long as they aren't trolling. I'd love to see more non Duck fans comment to help keep things in perspective. Although, I think we all do that to ourselves and do it as well as expected. Cheers to all 🍻
  7. Thank you, David. I learned a lot. The portal is definitely a two edged sword. It can flip the success or failure of a program fairly quickly. It is an antibiotic for one program vs a cancer for another.
  8. All I know is the NCAAF becoming farmersonly.com due to all the coach swapping is getting old, fast.
  9. To be honest, not too long ago I could not imagine a UCLA or USC coach "stepping down" to Oregon. Whether he is actually interested or not, Oregon is a step up!
  10. There have been some interesting hypotheses (anyone else remember some math references in this forum?) regarding all the coach news. One aspect to leaking out these stories is it may impact recruiting efforts at other schools negatively. I'm not accusing any AD of doing that intentionally, but it could be a desirable side effect when the AD is on the positive side.
  11. According to the Oregonian and apparently the Register Guard confirmed, the U fo O asked permission to speak to Kelly and Wilcox.
  12. Thank you for the interesting angle. As the world turns these days of our lives, the bold and beautiful are making all my children fall off the edge of night.
  13. Waiting for the right coach is better than settling. Settling can tank the program for years. Mullens has stated he is not being driven as much by dates.
  14. Doesn't matter to me why...good news is good news.
  15. BINGO @toketeeman!!! The very reason this should not be a rushed decision. However, it's never too late to make an offer they can't refuse.
  16. After reading so many posts and thinking it seems desperation is moving many toward settling for questionable characters, I would like to see Oregon pursue people like Brandon Staley with offers that would be VERY difficult to pass up. Justin is going to be fine. It's only money, after all...
  17. LSU will burn a QBs red shirt due to the starter entering the portal in there bowl game.
  18. Lane Kiffin is so humble he thinks Lane county was named after him.
  19. Well...he's making a donkey out of himself in those Aflac ads, so there's that... Is he doing that because he loves acting like a 1 star actor?
  20. Sorry. I don't buy it. AB's ebb and flow had more to do with all the outcomes. Poor at Utah, lose. Pretty good vs the Beavs, win. Abysmal in Las Vegas, lose. I saw Dye, KT, Sewell, McGee, and more working their butts off to compensate.
  21. And he'd be saying a 3 loss Pac12 school deserves to be in the CFP over a 1 loss SEC school. Just Do It
  22. Phil could hire a personal coach for each player. " Hey 5 Star, come to Oregon, name your coach".
  23. I haven't seen any mentions about if Lewis was "coached up" or if he just figured out what to do to be better. There are quite a few teams that need kickers. That cost the Ducks the Natty and chances at a Natty.
  24. First game late 70s, Parker stadium, student section...I could smell the grass alright...
  25. Couldn't help notice his son not wearing 13. 😉 I still believe Mario is classy and tried his best to close this out well. Regardless of Miami's win loss record, the Cristobal's will be fine.
