Done Deal: Local FAST Player Coming Home!
Remember Tony Gwynn said that in baseball the grinders ultimately outperformed the naturals in the long run. However, he also said that if you have a natural that is a grinder you have a superstar. So give me a higher rated player that works hard while being developed by excellent coaching and you have a winning combination as the chart above supports.

Why hasn't Williams Committed to USC yet?
He is the Catfish Hunter of D1 football. Catfish got 5 years $3.25M. Probably less than Caleb gets!

Chip Signs Extension at UCLA
I hope Chip has a great run a UCLA. Big fan of his ... rather have a coach like Chip being himself than coaches acting phony spouting off coach speak. UCLA a great university and to be honest their fans seem to have other interests. Most the alum like their team but are not living and dying with how they do...it is just entertainment to them. Of course they like winning more than losing but it sure isn't game day in Alabama. The weather is perfect too!

Thibodeaux: Why Oregon Set Him up for Life
I remember reading that some schools get higher ratings because their more esteemed professors do highly regarded research and write books. This is a great thing and impressive but the point was made that many of these professors rarely teach classes. So higher rating but no major impact on the actual students.

Thibodeaux: Why Oregon Set Him up for Life
Looked at SAT scores to get in and average at Alabama is 1,184 and Oregon a point higher at 1,185 (a win is a win). Average GPA for Bama is 3.71% and Oregon 3.59% (but high school probably easier in Alabama). Both have high acceptance rates with Bama at 80% and Oregon at 83%. Oregon a clear winner overall! UCLA average SAT 1,405 and GPA 3.9%. Acceptance rate only 14%. No wonder harder to recruit.

Thibodeaux: Why Oregon Set Him up for Life
I am a Duck grad but admit we are not a leading University. I thought it was great but what do I know? According to US News Alabama ranked 148th and Oregon is 99th. Average starting salary for Bama grad $50K and $49K for Duck grad. Son goes to UCLA and they smoke both of these schools I have to admit ... lol.

A Super Fast, Way Too Early Prediction for 2022
Will go 10 - 2 this upcoming year followed by 11 - 1 and playoff appearance in 2023! Good things coming for the Ducks. Really going to be fun watching the recruiting results pick up.

Texas A&M Spent an "Unfathomable Amount Of Money" NIL... Buying recruits,
Great for these kids that they are getting paid for being good at what they do in a sport that generates an estimated $4 Billion in revenue for the Power 5 programs. The coaches are making big bucks and when the strength and conditioning coach at Ohio State is making $800K a year and many others in that position are in the $500K range you know there is a lot of money being generated. It's crazy but that is the reality of how competitive the sport is and how much the ROI is when you develop a winning brand. Since big business is all about capitalism it makes sense that the richest boosters are able to have the biggest impact with helping their favorite universities. Right or wrong that is the core of how things work so it might as well fly in college sports. It's a good lesson to young people as to how the world really works. Just look at all the coaches that feign loyalty and family to recruits and players. As soon as these coaches get a better offer they hit the highway and never look in the rearview mirror. It's just becoming clear to everybody that while it is still a great sport it is primarily a business. Maybe we should start a Go Fund Me site and raise money for our favorite recruits. Let's get some Defensive Linemen! It's probably OK to do ... LOL.

Caleb Williams: Chuckling at all the Rumors
I remember the 85 game. Had just graduated 6/84 and was playing a pick up basketball game at the local park the following September. Being an optimistic Duck fan I brought a transistor radio and had game on the Cornhusker station. Listened for a while then had to turn it off due to embarrassment since others good hear the play by play. Think final was 63-ZIP. Ouch.

Amusing: A Glimpse of Lanning's Pre-Game Pep Talk
Today's world with everybody jumping ship could have these clips made generic and the software fills in the name of the school. For example ... "let's go guys! You know what makes "FILL IN NAME OF SCHOOL HERE" different? It's your commitment to each other that makes you special. Now let's get out there and play like "NAME OF MASCOT GOES HERE."

Now...Do you think that Cincinnati Belonged?
They could have had 16 teams in playoffs made more money and raised hopes of a bunch of fans and it would have ended up Bama and Georgia.
-
What Could've, Would've, Should've, No, Will Be!
Sure Lanning will have open competition for QB and all positions as any good coach would. I feel positive about his focus on bringing in coaches that can recruit as after watching the games tonight there is a really big gap between us and the top two teams. Coaching is important for sure but man you need the players on the field and we are not close to the elite level yet. Staying positive and hoping we keep moving in the right direction.

Georgia GameDay Thread--Let's Support Coach Lanning!
Give me a 90% version of #99 on GA and we dominate. UM could have had a game plan designed by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and still would have got smoked!

Georgia GameDay Thread--Let's Support Coach Lanning!
Remember when you were a kid playing sports and the other team had some kids that were just way bigger than you for the age you were playing? Like being 10 years old and playing against a 12 year old pitcher in baseball that was big for his age? They seemed like Giants! That to me is the basic advantage the SEC has ... they just have bigger kids and more of them that love football. I had a neighbor that player 15 years in the Big Leagues from the late 50's to early 70's. He was in a historic game and unfortunately gave up a key run that kept his team from going to the World Series. I remember him telling me that "sometimes the other guy is pretty good too." Lots of talent down there in the south and be great if the new coach can get a few to go up to Eugene.

JRW ... mostly Jimmy and Joes ... when you have a 360 Lineman that can move you become a lot smarter! Hopefully we can get some of those (would take one).

CJ Stroud: USC, UCLA "Just Kind of Boring"
SC probably will never get back to Pete era results but there is going to be a significant jump in recruiting and on field results. Probably not as quick and as impressive as what the alum are predicting (they are obnoxiously optimistic). The ones I have talked to see nine wins next year and playoffs in two followed by NC in year three. If our new coaching staff can get it going it will be entertaining to have both USC and Oregon strong at the same time again. I say this with the hopes that Lincoln Riley is a dismal failure but don't see that happening.

Canzano: Lanning Needs to Solve Oregon's "Identity Crisis"
Heard the same type of thing from parents of a starter on this team. Nothing earth shattering just that there were some issues with the HC showing favoritism to certain players but guess that is a common complaint on any team. Looking forward to seeing some change next season under new coaches. I liked MC for his recruiting prowess but did get tired of the RoboCoach speak at every press conference and the boring offense.

Alamo Bowl Gameday Thread: Why It Matters for Oregon
Now we just need a fumble on kickoff returned for a Duck TD followed by successful onside kick.

If I weren't so lazy I would figure out what percentage of game one starters are playing tonight. My guess is somewhere around 50%?

Buzby .... Coach great show but you are missing it ... KT just suited up and is going to play 4th quarter because he feels he owes it to his teammates!

Alamo Bowl Gameday Thread: Why It Matters for Oregon
Lot of understandable talk about our QB play but our D isn't exactly going to make many highlight reels. They have not mentioned that we are also basically out of players on the DL.

Alamo Bowl Gameday Thread: Why It Matters for Oregon
The Bama game was tough will admit but have to say 9.5 points a game in SEC is impressive.
-
Alamo Bowl Gameday Thread: Why It Matters for Oregon
Here is a positive thought ... with 8:38 left in 3rd quarter our D has given up in points what it would take Georgia just about 4 games in the SEC to surrender. Things will get better!
