In case you missed it, 23-1 long shot Golden Temple came from all the way back to narrowly win the Kentucky Derby.

Trainer Cherie DeVaux becomes the first female trainer to win the Derby.

Jockey Jose Ortiz and Golden Temple won by a neck over his elder brother, Irad Ortiz, Jr., riding 5-1 co-favorite Renegade. First Derby win for Jose.

The full video of the race can be found under a similar post in Other Topics.

Definitely OT, but it's a loooong off-season.

I sort of grew up around horse racing because my grandparents lived a few miles from a track.

For years, watching the triple crown was as much or more important to my Dad's family than college football (except when the Beavs were playing... Dad played DL for them leading up to WWII).

Hockey was actually #1 in that house.

I/we got married on Derby Day 1978. That was May 6th. Planned a half past 12 plus 4 minutes to start the ceremony. That way as long as I can count to 8, I can remember my anniversary . . .drum roll please . . . 12:34 5/6/78.

Also, for 37 years (until 2015) I was able to spout Derby trivia about the last horse to win the triple crown which started on our wedding day, Affirmed.

Thanks for the post.

I saw the replay.

What an amazing comeback.

Inspiring.
