Lex Mailangi is ranked in the top 60 interior offensive lineman in the US, and considering that every team has three interior OLs...that looks better.

He had three visits to Oregon, but had four visits to UCLA, and three to USC. He was also offered by Louisville, Michigan, Oklahoma, Florida, Alabama and Washington. (Ha!)

At 6'4" and 340 already?

Question for Lex: What kind of player is Oregon getting?

“They’re getting a technician. A hard worker, a very disciplined person,” Mailangi said. “I definitely say that I try my best to be the best, and if not I’ll keep going. They’re getting a damn hard worker. I get on that field, I’m gonna be the best.”

Mailangi’s recruitment took him all over the country before he settled on Oregon and he reflected on what he learned.

“I learned a lot. I feel like this whole journey was a self-assessment, so being able to see my likes and dislikes,” he said. “I learned that I’d rather choose a group of genuine people, just surround myself with people that are there for me. I learned that this journey is going to be lonely, but the whole point is to meet new people and make new friends."

“I believe that I found the place that will allow me to do that, and also just to focus on my dreams. A lot of people go for a party school or somewhere that is pretty much just exciting, but this is not my end game. So I feel like Oregon is a great place to do that.”

Dude carries 340 well.

We post Scott's writing here each week, and will be posting the articles of former FishDuck writers as well.

And I agree; Scott is a great writer who has been around the program so much that he provides superb perspectives based on his knowledge and vast experience. I thought his free recruiting article in a post above was excellent.

Charles, I really appreciate that more than you know.

One of the things I have always respected about you is the way you have supported writers and given people a place to share their voice, myself included. That kind of encouragement matters, especially in a space where so much work happens behind the scenes.

I am grateful for the kind words, but even more grateful for the way you continue to lift up people who care about Oregon, care about writing and care about building something meaningful around this community.
