Oklahoma State falls to Tulsa, will face Oregon next

Oregon's Week 2 opponent, the Oklahoma State Cowboys, didn't have an easy go of it either in Week 1 — but the difference is that while they fell behind early, they never found a way to come back, losing 24-10 to the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on the road. Not only are the Golden Hurricane a Group of Six team in the American Athletic Conference (AAC), but they reside in Oklahoma and are considered the "little brother" to the Cowboys and Oklahoma Sooners.

Oregon vs. Oklahoma State Prediction, Odds and Key Players to Watch for College Football Week 2

The Oregon Ducks entered the college football season as the No. 2-ranked team in the nation and one of the favorites to win the National Championship, but they needed a late touchdown to pull ahead of the Boise State Broncos as 24.5-point favorites.

Fortunately for the Ducks, a win is a win, and they now have a chance to right some of their wrongs from a week ago when they take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Week 2.

While the Ducks escaped a near-upset, the Cowboys did lose their own Week 1 game as significant favorites, losing to the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes as 13.5-point favorites. Do they have any chance to bounce back in Week 2?

Let's find out what the oddsmakers think.

Oregon preparing for heat, 9 a.m. kickoff at Oklahoma State

For the second time under coach Dan Lanning, Oregon will make a trip down south and battle the elements. In Stillwater, Oklahoma, the conditions for Saturday's game are far different than the damp and lush landscape the Ducks enjoy in Eugene. Stillwater is expecting the temperature to rise over 90 degrees Fahrenheit during the game, with humidity over 60%.

Dan Lanning Alters Oregon Ducks’ Travel Plan for Oklahoma State Game

The Oregon Ducks are adjusting their travel plans ahead of an early kickoff against the Oklahoma State Cowboys at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater.

No. 6 Oregon (dropped from No. 2 in the AP Poll) will leave for Stillwater on Thursday, one day earlier than its typical road-game departure so that his players to have additional time to adjust after traveling across multiple time zones.

“We are going to travel on Thursday, and that's strictly because we're playing in a 9 a.m. game,” Lanning said. “So, when you're traveling multiple time zones and you're going to play early, I think there's an advantage to getting there a little bit earlier.”

Oregon’s new itinerary doesn't change the Ducks' practice schedule. They normally practice Thursday mornings, allowing the team to complete its normal work before beginning the trip east.

The 3 simple fixes Oregon should execute to improve against Oklahoma State
The 3 fixes Oregon needs to make in Week 2
1. Giving Jordon Davison the ball more

Oregon being down by as much as 10 points in the first half eliminated the Ducks' rushing attack for part of the game, but just 22 carries for the running backs is a number that should start to trend up. Davison was the most effective of the Ducks' duo picking up 90 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries, averaging 7.5 yards. Given the strength of the Ducks' offensive line, Oregon should be able to create big holes against this Oklahoma State defense, and wear the Cowboys down while keeping their potentially explosive offense on the sidelines.

2. Cutting down on the penalties

One of the easiest issues Oregon can address moving from Week 1 to Week 2 is cutting down on the self inflicted errors. Oregon racked up 10 penalties accounting for 90 yards while Boise State committed just 3 penalties for 25 yards. The Ducks need to especially cut down on the 15-yard personal fouls that are easiest to eliminate.

3. 3rd and 4th down efficiency

The biggest reason the Boise State game was as close as it was is the fact that the Ducks went 4-12 on 3rd downs and 0-2 on 4th downs. The Ducks are going to need to do a better job of staying ahead of the sticks, and making the later downs easier, and part of that may be running the ball more. Both 4th down plays looked to be schemed up well, and with better execution this week, the Ducks' offense should stay on the field longer.
