You're free to define a trend across the last few games of one season and the first two games of the next season in college football, but there are too many variables for me.

It's too early in the season to write us off as being capable of being a good team.

Losing 2 of the last 3 is a sobering thought, but I am certainly not ready to jump on the “Can Dan Train” yet.

I'd like to throw out another possible correlation...the only teams Dan Lanning has ever lost to were teams that played or won the national championship or teams with orange and black jerseys with school acronyms of OSU.

Does not matter. Not that we lost but how we lost. Those were easier to accept until now. I am by no means writing off the year only saying that the trend line is not good. I am certainly not suggesting in any way that Dan should be on the hot seat. Just an observation on what IMHO is

fact relative to the last 18 quarters. See what the future holds.

Um, four of those quarters our defense pitched a shutout. JMU was totally on the scrubs. But it sure looks like the scrubs are no worse than the starters at this point.

I truly wonder what the team is going through. The level of performance has fallen worse than a meteor. And the loss feels just as catastrophic as an impact on the planet.

So the question is what will it take to look like they did when they bounced Texas Tech. Or better yet, how can they duplicate the performance in November 2024, but just obliterate teams. I surely hope this team plays their rear-ends off in Los Angeles. I don't even care if they win or lose. I just want to see some intensity, some nastiness, and if it takes running highlights of Dick Butkus and Ray Lewis, play those films until we see it on the field. Even if they don't push people back, I want to hear pads cracking.

I think things will improve when the backups develop and bring something to the field. The vets look old and stale.

Clearly something is very wrong. Most knowledgeable observers felt that our Ducks had incredible talent coming into this season. Better athletes than any other squad in college football. I thought the Boise State game was an explainable performance, given it was game one and that BSU will prove to be better than predicted early on.

I thought it would prove to be a wake up call, but I was mistaken. Something is amiss with the team. It is early, and I was never thrilled with Will Stein, but I'm starting to miss him. I did think Tosh Lupoi was solid, but his internal hire replacement may not be ready for his current assignment. The Ducks have enough talent to run the table.

A tough task, but the athletes are equipped and need to be coached to play up to their talent level. Assuming they will destroy Portland State (why were they scheduled?), the USC game will likely determine what this season will be .... success or failure.

OK, this article may well be an overreaction after two weeks of the season, but to date, the conference is failing to meet expectations.

The Big Ten is 10th out of 10 FBS conferences in failing to meet SP+ preseason ratings and is flailing against Power 4 competition.

We need a: REVERSE!

Defensively we retained most of it! All but 1 of the defensive front 7... yeah the loss was Bryce Boettcher whose leadership is greatly missed.

The defensive backfield lost Theinaman ... but otherwise brought everyone back.

Loss of leadership hurts. I suppose no one has stepped up to fill the leadership void.

But with everyone back... the pass rush should be better and the secondary coverage should be better.
