Hurych Named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week

EUGENE, Ore. - Oregon kicker Gage Hurych was announced on Monday as the Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week after going 3-for-3 on field goals in the Ducks' win over Nebraska last Saturday.

Hurych accounted for nine of Oregon's 17 points in the win, making field goals from 36, 36 and 37 yards. He is the first Duck to earn a Big Ten weekly honor this season.

Hurych has yet to miss a kick this season, going 9-for-9 on field goals and 19-for-19 on extra points to make him one of seven FBS kickers still perfect on both field goals and extra points with at least nine field-goal attempts.

Hurych and the Ducks (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) will play at Illinois (3-3, 1-2 Big Ten) this Saturday, Oct. 24, at 12:00 p.m. PT (Big Ten Network).

Don't normally, but listened to Coach Rhule's Monday press conference. As you might imagine he gets asked a lot of questions on in-game decisions.

One of the myriad of decisions questions was returning kickoffs. He talked about hang time, and how pre-game he thought there would be more opportunities in the kickoff return game because Oregon's kicker has shown low hang time which means once the receiver catches the ball there should be more opportunity for better returns. He said basically he has a rule to fair catch when opponent is showing 4 sec. hang time, but Oregon is below that.

He talked about why he took timeouts when he did. What they were trying to do on defense....and though lost to both Indiana and Oregon proud of how few points were scored.

Other "adjustment" topics were covered. It was interesting stuff. Felt Oregon's 4th Q was more run oriented plays than expected which they were unable to stop 1st downs.
