When Calamities Collide
How in the world can you have a two deep of 4-5 stars and be this bad? How in the world can an O line coach that coached back to back Joe Moore award finalist lines coach this bad? Are the plays so simple they are just that easy to defend? Are they so complicated that the learning curve is too high. Have the players just been over hyped to the extreme? I need an Xs and Os master to explain it to me like I'm seven because I just can't grasp how this is happening. The desperate fuskies were slinging the ball all over the field against Iowa with a back up QB. The Beavers are setting team offensive records with a gutted program with little NIL. And the Ducks can neither run or pass the ball against anybody other than SUC or FCS teams. We're getting early 80's Ducks results with Pete Carrol level talent. This is the most bewildering Duck team I've ever seen.

Oregon v Nebraska
Yeah, I'll probably skip it. I hate night games, as I wake up early the next day no matter how late I get to bed. And I probably would not get home until somewhere between midnight and 1 am--and I live in Eugene!

Just for fun…New OC Candidate
I believe it was George Wrighster who suggested, before the USC game, that if Oregon struggled offensively, Coach Lanning should bring in an experienced offensive “analyst” (prior OC/HC) to help Coach Meh’ this year. Norvell would certainly be a top choice, if he is interested in working this year (vs. taking some time off to reset). I think he’ll get an offer to coach somewhere next season.

The Hype Train Departure Begins
A trend with a meaningful start during the previous year? That's a real stretch of logic. I don't mean that as a personal attack, there is is just no smoking gun for continuity of that trend between seasons. TT defense was one of the best in the country, and Indiana destroyed Alabama too, and our coordinators has one foot out the door. This season is simply bad because all players other than ST that were lost last year were replaced by a significant downgrade this year, and the same for the coaches. It's a fine line between success and failure and this tale of two seasons proves it, Penn State last year with so much returning production proved it. Small changes can have huge impacts. That also means things can be turned around quickly too. This will continue to be an up and down season. I'm hoping Hampton pans out based on his prior success and improved defensive performances (yes defense played good against an elite USC offense). Mehringer will probably be shown the door with one or two more inept showings, at we will hit bottom there.

"the o-line was terrible" - I heard Geoff Schwartz on the radio this morning. Basically he said the same thing. He said the in-game dilemma the coaching staff had was every play somebody different was screwing up. They couldn't substitute out a guy having a bad game because there were too many guys screwing up. One guy would temporarily get "fixed", then another guy would screw up. He implied the o-line didn't run a clean play the whole game because somewhere along the line there was a screwup during the play.

As a photographer on the sidelines for the last 17 years, I can only imagine how angry Duck fans are. It was one of the worst games I have photographed. Let's keep it in perspective though. The positive. Our defense showed up for this game. They help a very good UCLA offense to 17 points. I do not blame the players for the outcome, I blame the coaching. The poor play calling made a very good quarterback look like Donte Moore out there. I now know that Moore's struggles have not been because he cannot make decisions and see the field. It is coaching and playing calling.

Lanning's Post-Game Interview
Not to mention…opposing coaches seem to know what’s coming anyway so what do you have to lose?

Oregon v Nebraska
Nebraska fans are already grumping about the kickoff time: 10:00 pm Central. Claiming it is their latest game ever, surpassing a 9:30 at Fresno. But, they have played later than 10:00 CT when they had games at Hawaii. "the o-line was awful" - I heard Geoff Schwartz on the radio this morning. Basically he said the same thing. He said the in-game dilemma the coaching staff had was every play somebody different was screwing up. They couldn't substitute out a guy having a bad game because there were too many guys screwing up. One guy would temporarily get "fixed", then another guy would screw up.

Lanning's Post-Game Interview
The question that should have been asked... "What are you doing in practice...shots?" Maybe closed practices should be opened up. Let the media and fans scout. Self scout clearly isn't working

Brock Thomas Is Why I Love College Football
A prevent defense will allow those types of numbers but he was competent. The only thing is he couldn't make the big throw to Dak that would have won the game, he doesn't have the arm strength. I was actually thinking Smith should have gone in the last drive to throw some bombs, but maybe we never would never have gotten past our own 30.

I've got an old, classic, Prefontaine shirt that I think I'll pull out instead. I don't think I'll get any abuse wearing that.

The Hype Train Departure Begins
As I said following the Ok. State game we are trending down. We have not played a complete game accept for USC. 2nd half vs JMU. Don’t care about who was on the field. Offense vs Texas Tech Indiana: Nuff Said BSU, Ok. State, now UCLA. 6 out of the last 7 we have had issues. This starts with Lanning. Because it is the Ducks, the flash, DL’s persona you had better win because people want to see him fail. If he does not stop the bleeding his career takes a hit. I know bad football, been a Bruin fan up until 5 years ago, we are heading there if he does not make changes and good ones. Don’t shoot the messenger.

Coach Lanning said in his post game that they saw something in how UCLA lined up (numbers advantage) but the ref stood over the ball longer than normal. He said he’d have to go back and watch the tape to see what went wrong. I agree with you about going for 2 early in game. Why?

The Hype Train Departure Begins
Oregon’s player and coaches did not handle the offseason hype well. From the outside, it doesn’t look like they put in the work in the offseason to improve and they believed that the team’s talent would win them the games. Both the offense and defense came out of the gate flat.

Lanning's Post-Game Interview
I can’t believe that he called out that the difference in the game was the long UCLA pass and subsequent field goal and not the failed 2 point conversion. At least he admitted that nothing was working on offense. Hope he is willing to make major changes to that side of the ball.

Oregon v Nebraska
The slide into irrelevance...haha. it could be worse, it isn't a big 10 network game, and I feel for Nebraska having to play a game that starts at 10pm body clock time. Indiana couldn't run on Nebraska so I don't think we will have any success there, could be another not fun to watch game, but we could still win Indiana style with some great defense and a few explosive plays.

Just for fun…New OC Candidate
If Norvell gets canned mid season, Lanning needs to pick him up mid season, no need for an interim. Perhaps Ross Douglas as interim would be ok.

Great searching Solar. The play calling is just inexplicably bad. Just looking forty miles north, The Beavers have a fraction of the budget in a gutted conference and still look like they have a better head coach, a better OC and a better O line. And I mean by far. By farther than far. They have a freshman receiver that is rewriting their record books that wouldn't even be in the UO three deep for this inept offense. This has been a criminal squandering of resources I could never imagine in years past.

I will do it on the interim. Probably won't get any better under Coach Log, but it sure won't get any worse.

8:00pm kickoff on Fox. Worst slot possible.

The Hype Train Departure Begins
I saw improvement on defense, seemingly Perich was actually in the right spot more times than not. Defense as a whole was better. The offense... I figured the game was going to be tough when the first third down play call was a run against 9 guys in the box. That was before we saw Raiola miss time and time again. What a change from 2 weeks ago, and the offensive line was offensive.

Lanning promoted Meh'. This same team went to the semi last year. A failed 2 pt conv in the 1st quarter does not explaine... well, whatever we are calling what we saw yesterday on the offensive side of the ball. Dan is resposible and it is all on him. He is the one who promoted Meh'. The OC is completely in over his head. Lanning needs to relieve Meh' of his OC responsibilities now, imo. Surely someone out there can take over game planning and play calling. It cant get any worse! I think I am going to be sick! But its not my $50 mil so...

Something is definitely wrong with the route tree when our pass catchers can't get open. Mehringer needs to be canned and replaced with Ross Douglas our WR coach. Here is what AI has to say about him: Previous Role: Wide receivers coach at Syracuse (2024), where he helped direct an FBS-leading passing offense. Here is what AI says about Mehringer at Rutgers:Drew Mehringer (2016) and Sean Gleeson (2020–2022) are most frequently cited among the worst offensive coordinators in modern Rutgers football history due to historically low national rankings and mid-season dismissals. Mike Norvell…he will be gone from FSU. He and Lanning go way back. Lanning has always thanked him for his first full time gig at Memphis.
