Marsh Duck Monday - Will Oregon Have a Rotating Offensive Line this Season?
My guess is this staff knows the guys that are starting on Saturday. They probably knew, mostly knew last year who the guys were, maybe not how they would fit, but they knew what they had. My guess is its Crader Utu Poncho Luli Wilson Most of these guys (Utu?) have played significant rolls at various points last year and have atleast flashed. I think being aged a bit is vital. I think Crader (LT), Dave (RG) and Poncho (C) are locked in, mostly anyhow. The other 2 and who is behind them makes it interesting. There are some names that I think are potential dudes. Nacho and Tofi are super young but have massive ceilings. The question is how much trust do you have putting them out there. I think Addison and Manning both take a huge step comming into their 2nd year. Particularly Addison, being he was a top 100 recruit. Bennett and Rogers are more seasoned. But I think Rogers is who he is and not yet sure about Bennett coming out of Ivy. Being aged at this position group matters significantly tho IMO. Is there Joe Moore talent and ability here? I feel good about it. With Terry at the helm, I feel better than good. Dante is elite, has another year of experience and elite skill players at his disposal. That makes the the O Line job a lot easier. We don't need them to be an elite unit, servicable will probably be enough. It wouldn't surprise me if they were elite by Nov 1 tho.

Number 18 Ellis Powers. The kind of hit you don't really see in the game much anymore.

Wow, This Could Be True . . . The Cost of Fielding a Team.
Yeah, if we are going that far, why do they even have work towards a degree and maintain a GPA? I actually think you have to dump that if you have a draft.

I think it would be a huge win if Crader and Wilson both start. Shows putting in the work over time does lead to getting opportunities at Oregon. But best man up.

10-2, Finish in semifinals (ugh) 33.3 ppg on offense 13.5 ppg on defense Lose semi 23-20 I just don't have enough faith in Dante Moore and Right Tackle/OL for us to put up enough points on the best defenses. Defense should be best we've seen since the 2019 Andy Avalos special, this time against tougher competition.

They have a cut-off of 54,000 for season tickets. So, it looks like they have sold at least 53,964, and three dozen non ticket holders from San Jose went to the game.

I dare say that Autzen would have been full against SJSU if the weather had been 97°! This normally would not be an issue for most teams, but this is USuC. The one true "blue blood" on the west coast. (Just ask them.) So this is an embarrassment to them. They seem to have fickle fans. Oregon fans show up even for a spring game. Ah, the joys of a new season of college football and social media roasts for fans. This is why we are so glad CFB is back. A full day of games, and 6 days of trolling our adversaries.

Stunning Crowd for USC at the Coliseum...
Per the article John posted it felt 104 degrees with the humidity plus full sun. This is Southern California, home to the most mild weather in the country. They simply aren't going to deal with this extreme weather when they can watch the game at some air conditioned location. They sold 51,000 tickets, which much closer to how many people planned to go, but the prices were so cheap nobody cared about losing that money by staying indoors. Yes, this is the West Coast and football just means less here. Their identity doesn't live and die with the support of their team, but they are still fans. Just pragmatic fans.

Who among us cannot still see that on his first pass of the game, Boise State safety Ellis Powers launched a blatant, penalized helmet-to-chin late hit on Jeremiah Masoli? This single hit knocked Jeremiah Masoli out of the game with a mild concussion. I want blood. The truck driving school's fans like to talk a lot. They got way too much mileage out of that game. Marsh Duck Monday - Will Oregon Have a Rotating Offensive Line this Season?
I doubt it is a talent problem. Lanning and co made a push for Seaton because they had a relationship with him during his recruitment and he would have added a nice additional piece to the offensive line but I think they also dropped out of the bidding war because it wasn't a make or break moment for the offensive line. If Oregon needs linemen they'll go out and get them. They did for the 2025 season where they grabbed 3 linemen from the portal and started them. Then only grabbed one this year and it sounds like he hasn't carved out a starting role yet. That in itself is telling that there is talent on the roster but it comes down to putting that talent on the field. We'll know more on Saturday!

Marsh Duck Monday - Will Oregon Have a Rotating Offensive Line this Season?
Thank you, David, for another terrific and timely article. It's great that Charles has posted a season prediction contest. I'm waiting to put my two cents in (probably worth less) until the starting roster for the Boise game is revealed, with an eye on the O-line. A true first-year player or two starting on the O-line? If you're good enough, you're old enough, but the play of the O-line is a ballet that requires cohesion more than any other position group. I hope the starting O-line hasn't been set because of rigorous, close competition rather than a lack of talent. I certainly trust the coaching staff, but I expected more than one O-line player to be picked up from the portal. QBs, edge rushers, and O-line players command premium portal payments. OBD is set at two of these three positions, and I understand dropping out of the bidding for an OT like Seaton, who is making big bank in Baton Rouge. (LSU, between coaching firings, hirings, and 40 new players from the portal, is now a program beating the bushes for private equity. May Kiffin be hoist on his own petard. 💩) A new college football paradigm has been created by NIL, unregulated free agency, judges who function with injunctions, and battling billionaires. You have to be wise about where the money is spent. Texas Tech had a great D last season. The Oregon D turned the Red Raiders' O into an Orange Bowl zero. Dan and his support staff have done a terrific job on both the recruiting and portal fronts. But I sure wish that Portland State was visiting in Week 1 and not the top-ranked G6 program, with a rare opportunity to show its playoff bona fides on national television. I hope the O-line will be prepared to pave the way for a beatdown of Boise. Thanks again for starting the week with an insightful article.
