Good Gosh...JB89 predicted 77-0 when the final score was 84-0, thus was only seven total points off, and the closest anyone else was (Autzen Magic) was 21 points off. I was MILES off, and thus why I congratulate JB89 all the more! Thanks to all for playing, and congrats again to JB89!

He was 11-11 with three TD passes in a limited appearance....and looked VERY accurate. More accurate than Moore? Again...there were at least two plays where Dante Moore was throwing to the short field receiver without pressure, while WRs were getting open downfield for big potential gains or touchdowns. Is that Moore's lack of vision, or what he is being told to do? I do not know... With all the receivers open downfield and ignored vs. Oklahoma State....I cannot help but wonder if we would have won that game if Raiola was at QB? Now, I am not asserting that Raiola should replace Moore; Dante has earned his spot, and the damage to him and Oregon would be significant. But if he gets hurt, and when we consider next year--we look good with Raiola.

Noon games are tight. 17-14 SC over Rutgers late in the 2nd. UTEP down 3 to Mich at the half Indiana 7 Western Kentucky 0 late in the second. Duck fans would lose it if Ducks were getting played tight to these teams. Oregon could be in a good spot coming out of a "get right" game. Let's Go Ducks.

I mean... I'll say this. If I wasn't a die hard Duck fan, and didn't want to write an article, I would have turned it off at half time and done something else with the rest of my evening. But I'm a die hard so here we are. And though I said that the score and stats don't matter because it's just PSU, the reality is that I kinda expected PSU to get 14-20 points with the way our defense has been playing. But with the talent differential the standard should be shutout. So seeing the shutout and only 6 first downs allowed meets a reasonable standard for this defense against that opponent. As for the offense I was expecting them to score about 50 with how badly they've been executing the offense.... I didn't expect 48 off the starter by half and another 36 by the second, third and fourth string QBs and company in the second. But I will say they met the standard of what they should have done to that opponent.

Oregon has a lot of issues that were exposed in week one and two. Mostly energy, execution and discipline. I have no problem with Oregon using the full 60 min to exercise those demons and get right. Dan was right using all the live game clock to build his team up and fix what's wrong. Third team players are part of that continued effort. If PSU or any other CFB honk doesn't like it then it'sPSU job to stop it... FEBU! Keep grinding Ducks. Fix the issues. You don't care when others say your the best, no reason to care about anything else they may say.

I thought I saw him holding his chin a little but higher pre-snap on pass plays. Saw the receivers taking a siesta lining up for run plays. Yes, I'm joking. Now that the other teams know, that we know that they know our tells, they won't trust them when they see them. Yes, I'm being serious.

The PSU QB was pretty good at getting rid of the ball quickly.

Thanks, David. My thoughts: OBD would probably (🤪) be favored to win the Big Sky football championship. Next week, a Blue Chip instead of a No Chip opponent. It was good to see the guys fired up on the field and on the sideline. 84 points? Did the Duck have to go to the Emergency Room? I hope Dan wasn't arrested for animal abuse. 😁 I guess the Vikings need the dues, but how about a 24-team PO, ten conference games, and no FCS opponents allowed? Send Traveler to the Glue Factory!

A friend also told me Oregon's beating of Portland State was bad sportsmanship. But as I see it the Ducks had to deal with a real monkey on their backs. They needed to find the confidence that was almost completely destroyed in the prior week. They needed to prove they are able to operate as an effective team. So, yeah, maybe taking a knee at the end would have taken away some of the criticism aimed at Dan and the team for a 4-quarter beatdown. But not by much. Better to judge the coaches and the team with how they perform next week as a result.

I watched the tape of last night's game and felt like a sadist. After the O disappeared in Austin, Ryan Day wants to do what Dan Lanning did last night. Pile on the points. It was good to see the back ups get their shot. Our QB group is intriguing. I really didn't notice if Dante was faking his foot placement tells to throw people off or not But I did notice that when a pass play was called the pinky on his left hand twitched just a bit. I hope SC wasn't picking that up.

I think you are correct on why you take the shot at the end of the half, practice real game situation. However, I also think Oregon should have taken a knee at the end of our game.

The PSU line only held up for seconds which is why PSU only had 6 first downs... Two of which were Oregon penalties. Otherwise the the PSU QB was just throwing inaccurate balls hoping it worked. Sometimes it did but mostly didn't. Rushing 4 is the root of the problem here I feel. Offensive line plus a tight end blocker is 6 blockers to 4. But you're right containment is the goal. As for the sacks... Moore stepped up and into one sack as a lane opened and he wasn't decisive if he wanted to run. The other sack was on the second string offensive line where Manning didn't hold up and Raiola was sacked. The second one I feel is more on the offensive line than the first. Still not great that it happened.

Here’s an interesting sportsmanship question. Ohio State was leading Kent State 28 to 0 with three seconds left before halftime. They had the ball and could have simply taken a knee and gone into the locker room with a four touchdown lead. Instead, they took a shot at the end zone. It worked. Touchdown. 35 to 0 at halftime. My first reaction was basically, come on. You’re already up 28 to 0. Take the knee. There’s a long standing idea in sports that once you clearly have an opponent beaten, there comes a point where continuing to aggressively pile on points starts to look less like competition and more like running up the score. But then I started thinking about the other side of it. Three seconds left in the half is an actual football situation. Someday Ohio State could be down by four, five, or six points with three seconds left before halftime, or even at the end of a game, and desperately need that exact play to work. How often do you get to practice that situation against a real defense, in a real stadium, with the clock actually showing three seconds? (Eh em, Michigan) You can practice a Hail Mary a hundred times during the week, but practice is not the same as doing it in a game. The quarterback has to buy enough time. The receivers have to get downfield. The protection has to hold. Everyone has to understand the situation and know that this is the final play. From that perspective, maybe the score almost should not matter. Coaches are supposed to prepare their players for situations they may face later in the season, and this was a rare opportunity to get a real game repetition that you cannot completely recreate on a practice field. At the same time, there is still something that feels a little uncomfortable about doing it when you are already beating an overmatched team 28 to 0. So where is the line? Is taking that shot poor sportsmanship and unnecessarily running up the score? Or is it completely legitimate situational football, using a rare opportunity to practice something that could matter enormously later in the season? I can honestly see the argument both ways. What do you think?

Great takes David. Three observations I made. Raiola Looks like the real deal. I'm glad you mentioned the nullified TD pass. Letting the play develop and observing the field was great to see. I'd also mention the TD pass to Bidwell. He was separating from his defender but also running closer to another one breaking off hiss receiver. Passing it behind Bidwell forcing him to spin 180 degrees to catch it behind him, threaded a needle that wasn't obvious before the throw. Again he stayed present and was observing the game in real time and making smart decisions. The pass rush still concerns me. There's not a player on the PSU OL that should be able to hold up against any UO starter. That tells ne that containing the pocket as opposed to pressuring the QB is the plan. A ten alligator pass rush will get destroyed by any competent offense. Still concerned here. The OL giving up some sacks also concerns me. West Linn should be able to give PSU a good game. Neither team should remotely give any position group a problem yet they got a couple sacks. Not good. I don't want to be a Debbie Downer after 84-0 but the schedule gets real from here on out. If both lines can step up, I like our chances. If not, yikes.

This is why betting is called gambling. I thought that Lanning would want to score a lot. I have no idea how the USC game is going to go. I see win / loss as 50-50. It is a toss up. Who ever wins that game has a good chance to make the playoffs.

A loss two games into the season in some bad heat and humidity can be overlooked if the rest of the season goes well. A loss to someone you have been playing against for the last hundred years or so 4 games in and it being the second loss leading to a 2-2 record shows that you are probably not worthy of the playoffs. USC is not a top 5 team. However, losing to USC and then running the table would probably get the Ducks into the playoffs. But if they can't beat USC, then winning out is highly unlikely. This USC game will put the Ducks on a course for the season, either upward or downward.
