Colorado's Tad Boyle talks NIL problems. However, I think he is off a bit when he states "For the first 28 years of my career, we had room and board, tuition fees and books. And that’s what everyone else had, unless they were cheating, and we know people were cheating. But the ones that weren’t, you were on a level playing field. Now, there is no level playing field.” How was it level if you had cheaters? NIL is what has diluted the almighty "It just means more" (under the table) conference. College football's fourth quarter kings: These teams are the best at raising the bar in crunch timeA deep statistical dive reveals which programs have dominated when it matters most over the past five yearsThe fourth quarter has a way of revealing who a college football team really is. When the margin for error disappears and every possession carries a little more weight, the best programs find ways to win -- whether it's protecting a lead, erasing a deficit or making the plays necessary in a close game. So which teams have been college football's fourth-quarter kings over the past five seasons? To find out, we examined every Power Four team (plus Notre Dame) across those three fourth-quarter scenarios. Georgia's company at the top is exactly who you'd expect: Notre Dame (44-0), Alabama (42-0), Oregon (49-1), Ohio State (48-1) and Michigan (46-1). Those six programs also rank among the winningest teams in the FBS since 2021. Tennessee and a handful of others aren't far behind. The upper-right corner of the chart is filled with many of college football's most consistent winners over the past five seasons. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/college-footballs-fourth-quarter-kings/

I think Chesney's recruiting prowess (Opps, there is that word again) will help us in the long run as he will dilute sc's classes.

Chip Kelly and Northwestern
How great must UCLA fans feel? This guy left as your head coach, and two years later, he's cosplaying as Bob the Builder meets Harold and the Purple Crayon at Northwestern. Will Northwestern replicate a Vanderbilt turnaround? Well they did fully finance the 380 million dollar stadium without public funding, so there's money there. UCLA might've had to eat some crap with that terrible DeShaun Foster debacle. " We're uh....... In LA...... USC and us......yeah.....". But word is Bob Chesney has brought in some great tackles in the transfer portal, and has Iamaleava looking crisp in the pocket. Maybe the move will work out for all after all.

Watch out for Bob Chesney at UCLA. He is the best recruiter in Westwood since Jim Mora was let go by a Bruins AD who put UCLA solidly in the red. He doesn't have as easy a schedule as Matt Campbell has in his first season in the Big Ten with Penn State, but UCLA's 2026 schedule is one of the easiest in the conference. Chesney brought 10 quality players with him from JMU, has a QB with terrific potential in Iamaleava, and he will put a far different and better roster on the field than we saw in 2025. Chesney has been praised for delivering pizzas to UCLA fraternities and sororities and firing the students up for football season. UCLA is +1.5 in Week 1 in a very interesting opening game at Cal. 7:30 PM Pacific kickoff on ESPN. I think UCLA goes over the 6.5 win total.- Some Factual Fun, Killer Oregon Numbers, & Getting Wound Up for Fall!
I always have mixed feelings... One yes... Super excited for a new football season. Two... Ughh I have to go back to work and worse still it's the begining of the the year which is always the worst part of the year. Football makes the begining of the year much much better.- Chip Kelly and Northwestern
I don't follow NW much but I do read Phil Steele's preseason mag. He has 7 of the Northwestern starters as one of the top 4 in the conference at their positions. That seems to work out to 1/3 of the starters being top notch. I guess I'd be on alert if I had to play them at their new stadium this year.......especially since they have coaches like Chip as assistants.- Some Factual Fun, Killer Oregon Numbers, & Getting Wound Up for Fall!

I disagree. With a senior defensive line returning--these talented reserves will play, but not establish their stats until 2027...- Some Factual Fun, Killer Oregon Numbers, & Getting Wound Up for Fall!
Yet with all that talent returning at Oregon....nearly 2/3rds of the Big-10 has an older overall roster. A ton of great young-guns on this team!- Some Factual Fun, Killer Oregon Numbers, & Getting Wound Up for Fall!

Great post, Gat. Thank you for the objectivity. Man, I miss the Ole Ball Coach and his sense of humor. Sankey, of course, has the right to do things his way. But three years ago, he was on a pedestal as the man who would save college football by calling Tony Petitti's PO format bluff. Today? His own ADs and coaches are questioning his judgment. Hats off to Jon Sumrall for calling out Kiffin when Kiffin tried to compare his leaving playoff-bound Ole Miss for LSU to Jon Sumrall, when Jon was leaving Tulane for Florida and was allowed to coach Tulane in a first-round playoff game against Ole Miss. Jon was quick to point out the apples-and-oranges comparison. With the blessing of the Tulane administration, Jon was moving up from the G5 to the Power 2 while Kiffin was slithering his way from Ole Miss to LSU, a move that slightly perturbed the Mississippi administration on down. Mark your football calendars for September 19, 2026, when Lane returns to Oxford. 7:30 PM Eastern/ 6:30 Central local time kickoff. Take the Over on Herbie, Rece, and Saint Nick being in Oxford. I imagine all of the Ole Miss fans will be as sober as the judge who handed Trinidad Chambliss another year of eligibility and will treat Lame with the same respect he received in Knoxville when he returned with Ole Miss after bolting on the Vols for USC. Golf balls, anyone? Kiffin also has a return engagement in Knoxville this season. Gat, as you well know, AAU member Florida has sterling academics. LSU paid $54 million to jettison Bryan Kelly. LSU is paying Lame $91 million over seven years, a $13 million a year base salary. But Kiffin did win two conference championships at FAU, the team the Gators open against this season. 🙃 How many Nobel Prize-winning profs could LSU have hired for approximately $150 million? Lame brings LSU to the Swamp on September 26th, the Saturday after the LSU game at Ole Miss. Should be very interesting to watch the welcoming Florida fans extend to Lame, who stiff-armed the Gators before taking the LSU job. 😁 Thank you for being such a good Friend of the Forum. Best of luck to Coach Sumrall and your Gators in 2026. BEAT LSU! Please!- Chip Kelly and Northwestern
Interesting hires by NW coach Braun. NW brought in Chip as OC and Jerry Neuheisel as the QB coach. Chip and Jerry have their work cut out coaching QB Aiden Chiles, who started at Oregon State, followed John Smith to Michigan State, and lost his starting job last season to jersey-stitcher nightmare Alessio Milivojevic. Chip flamed out with the Raiders, but he was not working with a top NFL roster, and Pete Carroll was past his prime. Chip has his construction uniform on in honor of the renovated Ryan Field, scheduled to open in early October. 35,000 capacity in a state-of-the-art, wired to the max, stadium. https://nusports.com/facilities/ryan-field NW plays a cruel and unusual 11 straight games in 2026 without a week off. A Halloween visit to Eugene and Autzen on October 31st will be NW's 7th game in a row. The only break in the schedule is that one of the 11 games is at home vs G6 Ball State. The week before the game at Ohio State on a spooky evening could be a trap game for OBD. Ohio State pays a Halloween visit to USC. Colorado is NW's P4 OOC opponent. The game will be played at Martin Stadium, where OBD played NW last season. I think NW will go over 5.5 wins with six or seven victories and again, go bowling. David, great call on Nick A. No defense shut down Cam Newton like the Oregon D shut him down in the BCS title game. Nick's D came through. Chip's O?- Chip Kelly and Northwestern
He absolutely did and he came into lead an Oregon's taff that was a ton of vets and old timers. And in all honesty they kinda worked out some of the bugs to the up tempo offense under Bellotti. Alioti knew and understood that the up tempo offense meant the defense response needed to change. People tend to have strong feelings about the whole bend-but-don't-break defense but with Oregon limited recruiting strength and talent pool that was the best option to keep the defense on the field for a long time. The support around Chip at Oregon was special and allowed him to do what he was best at. He didn't have that anywhere else... Well Ohio State I guess. We'll see how he does at North Western.- Duck Podcasts (16)
On this episode of the Autzen Audibles podcast, Oregon edge coach Kamran Araghi joins the show. Araghi was promoted to a full-time assistant role this offseason, but coaching the team's OLBs is nothing new. He explains how his responsibilities have changed and how the annual Oregon coast trip began before diving into break downs of every scholarship player in his room. - Chip Kelly and Northwestern
