I too was devastated with the botched flip/scoop and score. I felt it was the wrong play, at the wrong time. Follow that up with some 3 and outs or 4 and outs, while letting Utah run roughshod, made for a pretty lousy third quarter for OBD (and this fan). However, I read the comments yesterday from the outgoing seniors, and the thing that struck me was how many of them said things like “football is fun again” or “this year was the most fun they have had playing football.” I remember (50 years ago) trick plays being a blast to run, even when they bombed, but especially when they succeeded! Maybe, just maybe, trick plays bring something to a team’s psyche, and they do have a place… Either way, I don’t think I have the football chops to second guess either DL or KD. IMHO they have earned the right to call whatever play or plays they see fit. Go Ducks, win the next three!

The #1 ranked passing offense played the #127 ranked passing defense. I was stunned (and dismayed) by the plethora of wide-open receivers Penix had to choose from. All Game Long… It is a glaring deficiency that must be alleviated if OBD want to play for the PAC 12 title.

Spot on. We applaud brilliancy when it works, but cry lunacy when it fails. Any loss hurts, but a loss to the purple curs is just worse. There were a lot of little things that took down OBD last night, and they were mostly self inflicted. It happens, sometimes the better team comes up short on the scoreboard. We still control our own Destiny. Win out, and OBD are Rose Bowl Champions, which is far better than the #4 seed that becomes cannon fodder for Georgia.

Like the Yell-O colors, but don’t care for the short pants. They should at least cover the knees. Covering the knees with padding will prevent injuries without sacrificing much speed.

Great article Charles, thank you! I look forward to the off-season breakdowns by you and Coach Boles. They will definitely lighten up the long dark season of no football! My biggest concern is keeping Coach Dilly for the foreseeable future. While he is bringing back the Oregon brand, the man is making himself a hot property.

…And have been since the turn of the century! To the point that the cowardly LA schools jumped from the PAC to avoid playing (and being beaten by) OBD! What is going on with the Linebacking Corps? At the beginning of the season, I (mistakenly it appears) assumed that our linebackers were going to be a force to be reckoned with and be the leaders of the Duck D. Noah Sewell, DJ Johnson, Jeffrey Bassa, Jackson LaDuke, Keith Brown, and even Justin Flowe were all poised for breakout seasons, or so I thought. That has not happened. Any thoughts as to why? Is it coaching? Schemes? I realize these guys were Mari’s picks and not Dan’s, but NS, DJ J, JB, KB, and JF should be able to play for anyone. Why do you think our linebackers are not leading the D? You guys have way more football acumen than I, and I would be very interested to hear your take. Thank you.

I don’t see OBD falling into any trap this year for two reasons. #1, this coaching staff will not let them. #2, THESE DUCKS ARE UNSTOPPABLE! At least according to FOX! (although I tend to agree!)
