It is going to be mayhem on offense and havoc on defense, must see tv! The only contrast will be the harmony we see in the execution of special teams.

I guess I don't get it. I can spin the Oregon facts positive all day. The facts with the Pac are we lost sc, ucla, colorado, and we know little other facts. I can't spin those facts positive, and if we lose Arizona, not going to spin that positive either. Now if we sign a great, or good tv contract, sign on SDSU, SMU and begin to see some positive facts then I can see a positive spin beginning to happen with the Pac. Until the then I stay away from the Pac discussion, because there isn't much positive going on. I will say there is plenty to talk about the 2023 season, and the future with Dan Lanning. Talk about the Pac is like talking about the other P word, to me. It's not football and there is little positive to talk about with it.

I heard the Pac-9 is trying to rename Big-9, and are just trying to fit in. They are also patenting Big-8, Big-7, Big-6, and Big Ash Mess!

Not sure the sky is falling, but the ability to see anything clearly will take a while.

I'm definitely wondering if the quote about staying quiet is wise, because saying something will remove all doubt about ones' incompetence applies to George. For now we have to give him a little slack because we really don't know what he has done, and he seems to think staying silent is the best course. The quote from George is the deal is getting better the longer we wait, right? It is interesting George seems to indicate he will act quickly after the media deal is signed. He states 'immediately' after the deal is signed he will embrace expansion. I do wonder what immediately means to someone who seems to have taken so long to do, just about anything. One thing is for sure Oregon will be just fine, not so sure about some of the other Pac-9 schools. Most schools will need George to pull a rabbit out of his hat.

I have it on good authority George is looking into this, studying the situation, and everything will be under control. An announcement is imminent, I have also heard from those way up the food chain. Actually, for those of my era, I think Don Rickles said it best. The problem is when Rickles said the insults he was being funny, and it was a sign of endearing admiration, most of the time. He was the king of insults.

What I was concerned about is this is Mullens standard process. He hasn't learned much, other than when Cristobal demanded a larger buyout. A bigger buyout may be standard procedure now, but the early extension is just how he rolls. This would be like Lanning trying to run Nix at the goal line between tackles with an empty backfield. If we see Lanning repeat some of his mistakes we should be concerned. What I would like to see is Mullens competing against what is making Georgia so successful. I would imagine Lanning would appreciate this even more than a bump in pay and an extension. There is only so much money you can spend, but the time a competent and complete staff gives you is priceless. Also this is what helps a program get better, not just paying the head coach more money. Seems like a good business decision to extend his contract before expected success. The problem I see is he may have that success and then be up for a raise based on the success. Are we satisfied with a top 15 program, the rumored salary position Lanning's contract puts him at? The other thing that can happen is not meeting expectations and then the extension just seems ok, or maybe even too much. I would think the savvy thing to do is to reward success when there is a trend after season two. You then reinforce the outcome you want, and everyone is clear on expectations. I do agree with the article the buyout is a critical component. I would hope Mullins has learned a lesson on that one, and the buyout is extremely high, as committing to a coach is a two way street. The coach has to be willing to commit to the length of the contract too, or be willing to compensate the program. I look at this as a nice way to say we are behind Lanning, but it just seems premature. Mullens gave Helfrich a 5 year extension after a couple years of success based on what he inherited. We really didn't know how he was going to do on his own. We now see Mullens giving Lanning a longterm extension after one season. Do we really have a better understanding how Lanning is going to do as compared to Helfrich when he got his extension? I'm all in on Lanning, don't get me wrong, it just seems early to be giving an extension. I could see bumping his salary up to reflect the success he had this past season, a top 15 salary. That is respect, something everyone should have. I could also see promising to extend the contract after the season, with an agreement to review it every two years. That creates a longterm system for managing Lanning's contract. The only really sound reason for this contract extension is if Lanning said he wasn't comfortable with the length. If he wanted a longer commitment then you might take the gamble, as almost all indicators are exceptional. I just would have waited, bumped his salary now, and tied him up after more data. What did we really get with this extension? Seems like the same thing Mullen did with Helfrich, too soon.

The reason you only went 19 years back is because 20 years ago was the last time they were relevant. Twenty years ago is when they started to fire any coach who began to trend down. The last coach Manny Diaz trended down to 7-5 and was fired. Cristobal took over and went 5-7. This is a record Miami has seen in 15 years. I would say the 'current' has been ok in Miami over the last 19 years, but Cristobal took them back to the dark days. This year is critical year and every modern day coach at Miami has improved their second year. I would say he has to improve this year or he is gone. He has to become relevant in year 3 or he is gone. Miami isn't mighty, but they have proven to be mighty quick in firing anyone who disappoints, even for one year. After one season things are getting a little tight around Miami for Mario in year 1.

After our experience with Noah and Justin, the transfer portal may be the best route to elite LB play. Players commit to programs where they get tired of losing. Players also commit to programs where they sit too long and want a chance to compete. Oregon just needs to take care of their own business and the recruits and transfers will play out.

Would love to see us elevate SDSU at sc's expense. Giving SDSU the Pac spotlight would hurt one program, maybe two, and they both deserves a slap.

Last seasons disappointment in our defense will be contrasted with the exhilaration of finally seeing Landing's defense come alive this season. This video gives us a hint of things to come, just what we need as we get close to fall camp, thanks. I am sure the leaders of the defense are getting even more fired up than we are. It will be nice to see the right student athletes in the correct positions executing what Lanning wants to see, and the players skills allowing that to happen. Between the upgrade of our receiver corps, and the defense being filled up with the talent needed to execute the Lanning D, things are looking up, Go Ducks!

Once again George Kliavkoff moving at the speed of....... you guessed it, a turtle going up a slide. I mean it is a great idea, but you have to act decisively or at least make a decision. Create committee to see if it makes sense. Then make another committee to see if it is feasible. Then finally make a decision based on common sense, it is too late to make the decision. I'm starting to not like George!

I would add Pre's character was compelling. His intensity, integrity, sensitivity and intellect were a unique combination, and his races were must see. Much like Tiger, or Michael you just wanted to see what they did, and how they did it.

Just the neighbor up norths dog doing a little howling. Nothing to see here. We just need its owner to get it to shut up. I have a feeling the Ducks, 15-5 over the last twenty years, will do just that this fall.

Agree comparisons are often viewed from a cloudy lens. As someone who still compete athletically I love the saying the older I get the faster I was. I think the same can be said about how tough we use to be. While there are differences between generations and what circumstances we encounter, human nature is fairly constant. The other element is we have no idea how this all went down. One thing is for sure, if a kid signed up to play under Sanders, this kind of grandstanding should have been expected, still may not have been acceptable.

I like the questioning about what went before this public vote. How much was communicated to this kid before he was dismissed with the vote? If Sanders told the kid he was going to face the team after another offense, then he definitely needed the public vote. The one thing I would think needed to be clear from Sanders was it is now strike 3 and you're out. If Sanders son breaks the rules 3 times and he isn't out, that is where the team will fall apart. This has to now be the rule, end of story. I can also understand how this could cause some trouble with the team if this wasn't clear. Lanning seems to have a one strike and your out policy on some level. I hope he is clear with this, and more clear about the policy than he was when kicked Holden off the team.

He went undefeated in the regular season, seems like it worked. I won't question a coach's methods, especially with tough love. As long as it isn't physical or mental abuse, the tougher the better. These young men need to know there is an equation that works in this world. Follow the rules and work you tail off, you will learn and grow. Break the rules, slack off and you will never know what you could have been. I also like he brought the players into the decision. When the players make a choice like that they are saying what is acceptable. This also plays out on the field too. I give kudos to Sanders, not to say he will be as successful at Boulder.

It comes down to depth when you get to the end of the year. Most teams, Oregon included, may have to look at what qb depth they have. This may be the key to many of the predictions. The one qb who gets little respect is Rising. I think he is going to surprise quite a few people. Utah may be the team who thumps both the dawgs and the spoiled children. That is if Rising stays healthy. The kid just knows how to win and the team is behind him.
