If Bo does what Bo should, I think he's setting himself up for easily his best year statistically. Working with Dilly is going to slow the game down for him even more. He is going up against Pac-12 defenses in Pac-12 stadiums. If he isn't at or above DTR level stats he should consider his season a disappointment.

I think the Ducks have the "opportunity" to provide Georgia with the most dynamic offense they'll have seen since the National Championship. I say opportunity because they have every piece in place to do exactly that (great playmakers with great potential). What remains to be seen is how effectively it is coached and schemed. If Oregon's offense can get above 70 plays in the game that means Georgia's defense will be tired and more susceptible to mistakes. I'm gonna take a leap and say the offense is really clicking by the second half and starts an exciting comeback that brings us to within a touchdown. Seems like Kirby Smart at least has respect for the threat Bo Nix's athleticism and gun-slinger mentality poses. I live in Bend too. If QB play mimicked the amount of times I see people stop when they should go and go when they should stop on a daily basis then we would definitely have a Tyler Shough-esq season. This is why I have always loved the Chip Kelly version of practice where the QB takes roughly 15 billion snaps a day, makes mistakes but watches tape and learns from them quickly. Then by the time gameday rolls around it is all muscle memory and flow.

I say Thibs is a NY Giant and goes at 7. Next year could be iffy. Bo Nix has two years of eligibility and his performance this year will dictate whether or not he declares in '23 or '24. Noah Sewell could definitely wind up a top 10 draftee next year if he has another good season; but he'll have to stand out over OLs and EDGE guys which definitely come at a premium. I'm fine with him falling to the Chargers 🙂

If this team realizes the potential it has on offense, Seven doesn't need to top DT. He will be a game breaker for sure, but there are a ton of weapons on offense. Maybe the best group of WRs since 2012. All 3 RBs look legit.

DJ Johnson will be a major problem on defense. So glad to see him back on that side of the ball!

I think Butterfield has a better grasp of this offense than Thompson does. The pro-style aspects of it play to his strengths. He was slinging it in the 2nd half.

This is great news but also carries almost no weight right now. His recruitment list on 247 shows Texas A&M, which has already shown zero hesitation with dipping into their bottomless pit of a donor pool to buy recruits. Oklahoma will also need a QB1 after Dillon Gabriel is gone, or maybe even someone to challenge him right out of the gates. I think Ole Miss is probably in the rearview, especially considering the existing talent currently competing for the starting role. But I would definitely keep an eye on A&M the next few weeks. I predict a visit there sooner than later.

Any news on Noah Sewell? I don't think he had an injury listed from Saturday's practice.

I keep hoping to see that Butterfield winds up in the 225-230lb. range. With that size and arm he would undoubtedly resemble a "kid" that played here a few years back. He would only add to his arm strength while also being hard to bring down. I would love to see him running with the Ones in that scenario. He still looks scrawny like JH did his freshman year; which is saying something about Herbert's natural size coming into college.

Ty doesn't see 3rd string on this roster ever. He may have come from a smaller school, and his star rating might just be slightly over-valued but he is talented none-the-less. He knows this and will transfer the second he isn't in contention for the starting gig. Other schools would be happy to open a much clearer path to the starting job knowing he's coming their way. Unless something drastic happens, like we find out he simply cannot comprehend Dillingham's offense; he winds up no lower than 2nd string. Is he better than Bo Nix? Probably too close to call. He IS flat out better than Jay Butterfield.

If Lanning/Lupoi/Powledge can produce the defense that everyone expects they can, and Dillingham brings the bang back to the offense, I believe we will certainly cause more frowns than smiles in southern California. On that same note, we need USC to be as good as Riley is advertising. The playoff committee needs BOTH teams to be. We need west coast recruits to have more reasons to stay on the left side of the country. If both teams do what both teams are claiming then we could see an arms race of Cold War proportions. As we continue to consistently win and contend for championships and beyond (assuming SC can as well); we could begin stockpiling talent on top of talent. Riley and friends will attempt to do the same down south. As both teams trend upward, not only do recruits from the west coast stay home, but kids from elsewhere in the country start feeling the pull to play over here. Naturally, I am assuming we will succeed far better at this than USC (the Soviets, if I'm going all in on Cold War euphemisms ) so we manage to stay ahead of the talent curve. But having both brands in the national spotlight every single season will only help our chances with the committee!

A top ranked RB should always want to run behind the block of a top ranked OT. This is like peanut-butter and jelly. Young should be watching Penei Sewell tape and imagining Conerly carving out similar paths of destruction to the end zone!

Glad he choose to walk back his transfer and see it paying off. If Dilly is planning on running 80-plus plays a game then having two studs at RB is a must. We always had 1A/1B starters at the position under CK and even MH. It sounds like Whittington is a hard hitter so maybe he winds up at a Cyrus Habibi-Likio type roll while Dollars and Cardwell take the majority of the reps.

If he wants to see a sold out stadium for EVERY single home game he'd be wise to choose the Green and Yellow!

Nix has had the same thing happen to him that Herbert did in college. Each season was a different OC with a new offense to learn. Fortunately for JH, he oozed so much raw talent out of the gate that he could fill Crater Lake. He could also obliterate most of North Korea with sheer kinetic power of one throw. While Nix has huge upside, I think too much of it was wasted with a head coach that wanted to run the ball (Malzahn) and another who just wasn't able to get the offense clicking consistently while he was with Nix (Harsin). It seems like with some consistency with an OC that can play to his strengths, Bo could absolutely look the part of a Vernon Adams. And if that happens, the folks down at USC may stay up a little later at night.

We all know the story about Herbert. The guy literally played so well in practice that Helfrich couldn't help but notice him. This in turn led to him taking over the starting position; which saw him blossom under the lights and crowd. What if the opposite is true for Ty? Maybe Ty simply isn't playing spectacularly in practice but has what it takes come Saturday? All of the tape he has from (I know, high school...) screams clutch gene. He looks like a playmaker that will get the ball to the people it needs to go to. Maybe the spotlight will bring out the best in him. If I remember correctly, the media that saw Mariota practice said he had a tendency to get brought down often in the backfield or get balls swatted by the D Line. Yet he beat out Bryan Bennett primarily because he used practice as a place to hone his internal clock and decision making. If Ty is doing the same thing then we may see some awesome offensive output this season.

Honestly college football is just starting to catch up to where college basketball has been for 20 years. The main reason this is not sitting well with us (including me) is because college football seemed, for decades, to be one of the sports where culture reigned supreme. It was what kept the 4*s and 5*s around on the same team and sometimes meant they didn't see the field until year 2 or 3. When the NCAA created the one-time free transfer rule, it created collegiate free agency. So many of these kids no longer care if they even graduate any more. All they want is to put together a season or two of good tape then bounce for the League. This is exactly how college basketball has been for quite a long time. These athletes come in, have a good year, then take off to the NBA or the D League. Because football is the high contact, human chess-game that we love, I think we assume that these men who go to literal battle every weekend develop a closer comraderie than most of the other sports. And this close relationship is actually required for teams to be successful with the O-Line needing to act as a single unit, the center being able to have a feel for his QB and all the little nuances. The QB and his receivers gelling so balls can be placed in the perfect spot. But here we are in 2022 where a QB is allowed to transfer, usually with the expectation that he be named the starter, and then try to develop some sort of relationship with the existing guys around him. It has been extremely hit-and-miss with how this ultimately works out. I like the person that Bo Nix is, but he left Auburn after he felt like his job was no longer secure. He should be given no additional securities here. I just hope Ty uses him to bring the best in himself out on the field.

For his age Dillingham sure seems to have a great grasp on what he wants to accomplish. I totally agree with the interview he gave after Saturday's practice on the use of going under center. He has a plan for it and doesn't want to give it away to the press. He cited the obvious reasons most coaches give for choosing to put the QB under center but also stopped short of saying why and when he will utilize it. This shows that he isn't trying to appease the media or make them like him by giving away the aspects of his offense. He wants to show it on the field. Also, I could have been reading too much into the Ty Thompson interview but it really does sound like Ty has the upper hand in this competition thus far. He speaks of how much of a help Bo has been for him. He called Bo coming to Oregon a blessing. He seems to be talking about how much of a better player Bo is pushing HIM to become. He also notes how excited Dillingham seemed when Ty told him that his offense was clicking for him.

Feels like this year's QB battle will be much more competitive than last season's farce. We can expect three things for sure: 1. We will be much better off than last year 2. We will like the starter by the time he's named (even if it is Bo) 3. One of Jay, Ty, or Bo will not be with the team by the end of the season

Not that we need him, but if Agude winds up choosing Oregon over the Fuskies and the "Tropical Depressions" then it just goes to show the amount of interest buzz that Lanning has generated since he was hired. He would be out recruiting one of the best salesmen in college football. "Come play for us unless you like constantly dropping into soft prevent coverage until you're out of breath." On a side note, the Oregon athletic department needs to work their butts off to get an OOC game with Miami as soon as possible. We all need to see what happens when you let Cristobal steal the catalytic converter out of a Ferrari!

Smart move. There is never a situation where you have enough QBs on the roster. Sadly, if the existing talent was properly developed, we wouldn't have a transfer in the mix this season. But this keeps the position room stocked when the inevitable transfer happens. Also not to be forgotten is that there ABSOLUTELY will be a season where we lose one or more QBs at the top (2007) and will need a guy fired up and ready to win games!
