Dylan Raiola Texas Tech Buzz Ignores One Major Problem

The biggest problem with the Dylan Raiola transfer to Texas Tech buzz is simple.

The idea of Oregon Ducks quarterback Dylan Raiola transferring to Texas Tech has fans talking, but one major problem makes the entire scenario hard to take seriously. And beyond that, there are several other factors that make the move to Lubbock a questionable fit for the former five-star recruit.

This transfer would meet the NCAA's definition of an outside-the-portal 'ghost transfer,' meaning that Coach McGuire could be suspended without pay and the program fined up to 30% of its football budget.

The NCAA was not happy with Ole Miss coach Pete Golding tampering with the Clemson roster, LSU trying to buy Demond Williams out of his contract with UW, and Miami poaching Darian Menshe from conference member Duke for a payment of four million dollars.

$4 million is a significant amount to settle litigation, but IMO, this was a very bad look for Duke.

Miami? Already on the outs with Wisconsin and the Big Ten. Why not screw over a program in your own conference? The Canes best beware an ill wind blowing through Miami's Super Conference chances.

Why would the Power 2 want to add a small private school without an on-campus stadium in a state where flag-bearer Florida is a P2 member? A school that cares nothing about its competitors.

Texas Tech billionaire booster Cody Campbell has called for the Power 4 conferences to collectively negotiate with the media. Why? Because TT is not in the Power 2.

For Campbell to approve the Red Raiders going after Raiola would be hypocritical and give the NCAA the perfect opening to insist upon transfers meeting its portal criteria. 30% of the budget might even get Cody to gulp?

On the other hand, if Cody wanted to wire $10 million to OBD to be used to pick up a QB from the portal next year? Hmmmmm.

Agree with Jon on the action that Texas Tech will suffer if they went thru with it.

As far as I can read up on all this is, like the article below, rumor buzz, click bait. No way will Texas Tech color outside the lines, will be big mistake.

RUMOR: Oregon QB Dylan Raiola Transferring Again?

Rumors are growing about another move for Dylan Raiola, even though he just transferred a few months ago. The Oregon quarterback joined the Oregon Ducks after leaving the Nebraska Cornhuskers this offseason. Now, some fans think he could already be looking for a new team.

On the other hand, what has ultimately proven to be the NCAA’s loss of traction and undoing is making these arbitrary ‘lines in the sand’ stands that run head on into the court’s interpretation of the Sherman Antitrust Act. Saying when and when not a player can utilize their legal right to negotiate an NIL contract seems to go in one direction: to court, and where the NCAA ultimately loses.

Where there is smoke there is often fire. I think it is time for Dylan Raiola to step up and let us know what the truth is. If this is just a rumor, with no intent to leave, let us know. If there is an intent to try to go to Texas Tech, do we really want this guy around?

I don't think Dylan is going anywhere.

I certainly understand and respect your POV, but if folks in the spotlight had to respond to everything on unsocial media ...

My first question is: Who started the buzz that Bri wrote her article about?

I may have missed it, but didn't see any name mentioned.

Conjecture by bored sports writers, pod casters, anybody?

I don't feel that Dylan or any athlete should have to respond to anything other than the eventual outcome.

Gosh how I get frustrated with the long off-season......

No matter who leaves the program, DL and staff will find a replacement. Other than the rare generational player, ask yourself, is there much difference in the top 300 players coming out of high school or the top 100 on the portal?

DL and the Ducks bring in their fair share.

Go Ducks........

The same people that have Lanning leaving for another job, just because there is a big name opening . . .

Of course, now that the Tex Tech head coaching position has opened, maybe Lanning and Raiola are a package deal.

And that my friends is how rumors are started. P.S. Bri, please don't mention me as your source on the Tex Tech coach opening.

With all due respect, this thread is bonkers!

Strong opinions on a player that hasn’t played a down based upon social media click bait?

Really reinforcing my primary directive for what CFB has become…I don’t learn their names until they actually play in the fall.

Thats for me. Believe me, I used to live and breathe this stuff, so I don’t begrudge anyone trying to still get a handle on it. I’m quite satisfied with the aggregate for recruiting until it matters in the fall.
