For the first time in seventy years the US has won it's first two games in the World Cup ,to make it to the knockout round. They actually won Group D and will play the third place team from another group on July 1st in Santa Clara.

We saw the hockey team win the gold for the first time since 'The Miracle on Ice". Could we see an even more improbable victory on home turf this year? I don't follow European Futball ,or what we call Soccer, but it's been interesting to see them bring their unique sports culture here. It's been awesome seeing them experience our country. It's too bad FIFA didn't allow tailgating, it's what makes our sporting events really stand out.

People can celebrate sports and not be jerks about it. Just like all the great folks on this board(unless you are a Beaver fan🤣) . But, maybe one day one will cross the line and have a civil discussion here, instead of a civil war of words elsewhere.

I coached soccer for close 20 years, despite the fact I never played in my youth (it wasn't available in Oregon, when I was young.)

I had the privilege of working with a former NCAA, US and World Cup level referee the first couple seasons, and later was allowed to work under two great coaches who had professional experience playing for Scotland and Wales.

I learned there was a lot more to that game than the vast majority of Americans will ever comprehend.

So far, this has been a fun WC.

Can team USA win the World Cup?

Absolutely.

Why haven’t we won?

Just look at the size of our high school, and college football stadiums. We have the athletes, many are focusing on other sports.

The US having success in FIFA will definitely steer more athletes over to the sport. It is just a matter of time before a World Cup is won by team USA.

My brother, who lives in Boston, reports that the city has been overwhelmed by Scottish soccer fans, the Tartan Army.

Too many Celtics! The Scots and the ever-present Irish are drinking the city dry. Where's a Kennedy when you need one to smuggle booze in from Canada? 🤪

At the suggestion of the police, the city has set up two public areas where one can imbibe to the point of falling down drunk without police intervention.

It's a fantastic worldwide party in Canada, Mexico, and the USA.

BTW, it's a 48-team playoff and FCS Cape Verde 'defeated' Power 2 Spain nada to nada.🙃

USA! USA! USA!

Football fitness compared to soccer fitness is like comparing a sprinter to a marathon runner. One thing the USA, and Mexico have over every other country right now is the ability to play in the heat. I heard people asking why there are water breaks being used in this world cup, those questions stopped after many soccer stars had to stop practicing due to heat related issues.

They haven't even been playing outdoors in Texas, Arizona, or Florida in the summertime. It's just now getting hot, they were complaining back in April-May in places like Virginia, Maryland and New York.
