Yesterday at 07:17 PM1 day Moderator No. The Week 6 AP Poll is out. With Penn State and Michigan floundering, six Big Ten teams are ranked.Saturday, No. 21 UCLA visits No. 13 Oregon. During the Off Week, both teams moved up two spots. Wisconsin dropped from 26 to 28. No. 30 Northwestern should be in the Top 25.No. 31 Nebraska awaits a visit from No. 7 Indiana.PJ Fleck chugged from the 123-year-old Little Brown Jug; surprisingly, he's not in the Minneapolis General Hospital Emergency Ward. This is the first time the Gophers, who won 20-14, have captured the Jug since 2014, and, three stadiums later, the first win in Minneapolis over the Wolverines since 1977. No. 37 Minnesota is taking a well-deserved Week 6 break.Ohio State ranked 5th behind Notre Dame and Miami teams; both 0-0 against the Top 25 is wrong. And if a QB and not Jeremiah (last name not needed) wins the Heisman 🤬.OBD, 2-1 against the Top 25, ranked behind three B12 teams, is wrong.Pat Narduzzi whined enough to have Pitt ranked 25th. Virginia Tech outgained Pitt 499 yards to Pitt's 295, but four turnovers and a college kicker situation allowed Pitt to escape with the win.Turn Those Review Machines Back On?Rather than spending the night listening to cowbells, Kalen DeBoer had the Tide players up at 6 AM and rolling on a bus to Starkvegas on game day.DeBoer was 20-0 in games where his team had two or more turnovers. He's now 21-0 after Mistake State turned the ball over twice in the first period.No. 7 Alabama should be ranked ahead of the Domers and the Canes.No. 2 Georgia visits Tuscaloosa on Saturday, where the Dawgs have not won since 2007. Miami hosts Florida State and Notre Dame hosts a Stanford team trying to recover from an Irish Wake. 🤪Coaches who won big in old places are not winning B1G in new places.Big 12 players are not coming through at Penn State. The Michigan D should sue its multi-million-dollar QB and a pathetic O for non-support. I think Fitz will be a good fit in E. Lansing, but not this season. But a guy who won big at James Madison and at lower-level programs, Bob Chesney, has UCLA off to a great start with a prove-it game Saturday in Eugene. Hopefully, the proof will not be in a Ducks pudding.Hats off to Coach Drink for spanking a ranked team. At least the voters dropped the Gators out of the Top 10.The SEC, with this season's top crop of QBs, will continue to cannibalize one another. With losses by VA Tech, Florida, Mistake State, Iowa, and Cincinnati, 13 FBS teams remain undefeated.Tosh lost another game, this time in Vegas. Cal does not have to make plans to be in Las Vegas on January 25, 2027.This is no fine for Will Stein: The biggest comeback in Kentucky Wildcats history, a 35 to 34 OT victory on the road at South Carolina, and Kentucky falls out of the Top 25?🥸On3College Football Rankings: AP Poll Top 25 after Week 5 re...The latest AP Poll Top 25 rankings are here now that Week 5 of the college football regular season has concluded. 23 hours ago23 hr No. A 10-2 Duck team should make the CFP. However, it is not a sure thing. If OBD loses to tOSU it cannot be an inept looking Duck team getting blown out in the Shoe. CFP committe members will be watching that game and OBD's must look like a top ten team that deserves an invite!Consider that a Duck team ranked #9 or #10 when facing tOSU could drop out of the top 12. Remember its really about staying in the Top 11 spots. Number 12 will get bumped by the G6 qualifier. And after watching the tOSU/Iowa game I am uncomfortable wrapping my head around as how OBD's D scheme can keep Jeremiah Smith out of the end zone. That young man is exceptional........The Ducks will need to score on most of their drives to keep pace.In the meantime, in the other 7 games, OBD's must continue to improve and play like a top ten team.As for the rankings the Ducks need to keep winning and it would help to make the big title game.ND and Miami have no one on their schedule who can beat them. A cakewalk to the CFP. That is BS....The loser of the Georgia/Bama game will not fall below tOSU in the rankings. Unless one team gets blown out. The loser would not fall below OBD.BYU and TT should not be ranked above OBD. Just shows how much credibilty OBD's lost playing poorly in the Ok State game. How many voters back east or midwest were awake watching the last 10 minutes of the Duck/USC gsme? It was after 10 0m back east. That was the best 4th quarter for OBD this year.I wouldn't leave it up to the weekly voters or the committee to get the Ducks into the CFP. Win out and beat them all. Get into the BIG Title game. Leave nothing to chance.Go Ducks........ thrash the upstart Bruins!
21 hours ago21 hr No. This week's rankings are indeed 'rank'. 😵The SEC prejudice is overwhelming.Wisconsin hammers MSU and drops out?!I can only hope that eventually the extra loss for half the SEC will catch up to them. When will the quality of actual teams played mean something.Meanwhile, I am very glad we get UCLA, Nebraska and Northwestern at home this year. They are all 3 improving each week and none look easy.Go Ducks!Bury the Bruins!!
20 hours ago20 hr No. Sucks that Oregon has a loss on the books. But I like the bubble position Oregon sits. The Ducks now have a sense of urgency to get better every week as opposed to a sense of panick trying to hold on to a top 3 position. Now Oregon can focus on themselves, hopefully peaking in Dec and Jan.I see the new coordinators finding their game by that time. Their development has already been impressive imo.Oregon went from a behemoth with the preseason hype to a sleeping giant as far as I am concerned. The USC game changed everything and Buckeye should be concerned about Oregon, not the other way around. Many Duck fans are consigned to Oregon being mid after the loss in Stillwater. I think Oregon has become the most dangerous team in CFB.
19 hours ago19 hr No. The weekly football poll is a joke. I remember a sports talk show guy said the only reason we have a poll is so radio jocks and their audience have something to talk about until the next game. After all, it is a 'media poll".The so-called coaches poll is laughable, too. There isn't any coach who is going to take the time to see whowon or lost. His total focus is on next weeks game. He'll give one of his assistants the task to fill it out. As other Duck fans have pointed out, the weekly poll doesn't make any sense. And because ESPN is in bed with the SEC, it's no wonder that there are so many SEC schools listed in the top 25.
19 hours ago19 hr No. There shouldn't even be a poll until the 7th or 8th week of games. Its all about TV game scheduling with the networks based upon who they think will be watching.
16 hours ago16 hr No. What a complete joke! The voters somehow continue to get worse. Do they even watch these games? Luckily, these votes don’t mean anything because they reek of incompetence.Iowa loses to No. 5 tOSU by 17 points and drops 6 spots. Mississippi State loses to No. 7 Alabama by 33 points at home and drops 1 spot? Edited 16 hours ago16 hr by GeotechDuck

The AP Poll is a part of college tradition. Even though the rankings are suspect, the poll provides a lot of pre-PO committee ranking debate, pondering, and disagreement. The problem with all of the polls is that strength of schedule, which is supposed to factor into the rankings, always takes a back seat to the Eye Test. There is nothing but the Eye Test that can support Notre Dame and Miami ranked ahead of Ohio State and Bama.Basketball has enough data points with disclosed metrics relied on for the CBB committee to come up with a generally accepted PO field and a generally accepted seeding of the teams in the field.CFB does not have enough data points to cogently determine a 12-team PO field and seed the field. Go to a 24-team CFB PO, which is really a 16-team PO with eight on-campus 1st-round games.Of course, fans of left-out teams 25 and lower will witch, but that comes with the postseason territory.
4 hours ago4 hr No. Polls before 1st November (IMHO) are to have fans and pundits "engage" in the very exact discussions that this thread embodies. Not good or bad, but truly meaningless unless the polling that DOES matter is effected in any way by all these "pre polls". Just Win Babe....and the polls that matter will reflect your position.Go Quackers!
2 hours ago2 hr Author Moderator No. 10 teams in the Top 25 have not played a ranked opponent. Five teams in the Top 10 have not played a ranked opponent. Oregon has played three ranked opponents; Texas, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Missouri, Florida, and Mississippi State have played two ranked opponents. With nine teams ranked, it's not surprising to see that the SEC has played the most T-25 vs. T-25 games. 2nd-ranked Georgia at No. 7 Alabama and No. 21 UCLA at No. 13 Oregon are the Week 6 T-25 vs. T-25 games.

1 hour ago1 hr No. Oregon should not feel comfortable taking a 2nd loss this year. This year feels a little different to me.I don't think we can count on Miami and Notre Dame stumbling twice this year. The Big 12 has a few compelling teams towards the top that could lead to a second playoff spot. With a G6 qualifier, that's potentially 5 spots taken in the CFP, leaving 7 left.KDB may have finally found his footing in Alabama, and along with Georgia and Texas will lock in 3 spots for the SEC. Indiana and Ohio St. take 2 for the B1G, leaving two remaining spots for the likes of Oregon, LSU, Ole Miss, or one of the next B1G teams (USC, UCLA, Iowa, or Northwestern). If one of the 2nd tier B1G teams or a 2nd ACC team goes on a run, it could put OBD playoff hopes in jeopardy. IMHO, we cannot afford an ugly loss or a two score loss in Columbus or anywhere for that matter. Every game is a fight for our playoff lives and anything less than a razor thin loss in a thriller to Ohio St. could land us in the Alamo Bowl.

A win over Michigan won't move the needle, but a win against Nebraska if the Cornhuskers are not blown out on Saturday by Indiana, and a win over Northwestern, should be quality wins. With its schedule, UCLA should finish in the top 25. Obviously, Oregon needs to win this game. If Boise State passes the test at Fresno State on Saturday, OBD will have a win over the PO G6 representative.Oklahoma State is odds-on to defeat UCF in Stillwater on Saturday, has a good chance of winning at Houston next week, misses Arizona, BYU, and Utah, and plays Texas Tech in Stillwater. If the second loss comes in a competitive game, a two-loss Oregon will be in the PO field. Definitely in with a win at Ohio State. Oregon will have a better strength of schedule than any two-loss ACC or B12 team.

It's not the two-loss teams I'm worried about, it's unexpected one-loss teams that could come out of the Big12 or ACC. And the committee has shown precedence for not punishing teams who play in conference title games. For example, what would have happened had BYU beat Texas Tech in the Big 12 title game last year? Both would have been in (similar to Clemson beating SMU the prior year). What if UCLA goes 11-1 this year?It probably seems foolish betting against chaos in college football with increased parity, but I wouldn't count on it this year.
