Talk about a double gut punch to the stomach. I was trying to get over the fact that Coach Altman suddenly announced his retirement and now this. This is the type of game that can get a team to unravel very quickly. Hope that Coach Lanning can turn this around soon. If not, this team will circle the drain with no stopping in sight. This also has implications for next season, too. If the losing continues, will recruits reopen their commitments? For all practical purposes, Oregon is playing in a bowl game this year. They are not going to run the table and make it to the CFP. Speaking of, would Duck fans like to see a 24 team CFP now? The Ducks would still have a chance for the playoffs even with this latest defeat.

The weekly football poll is a joke. I remember a sports talk show guy said the only reason we have a poll is so radio jocks and their audience have something to talk about until the next game. After all, it is a 'media poll". The so-called coaches poll is laughable, too. There isn't any coach who is going to take the time to see who won or lost. His total focus is on next weeks game. He'll give one of his assistants the task to fill it out. As other Duck fans have pointed out, the weekly poll doesn't make any sense. And because ESPN is in bed with the SEC, it's no wonder that there are so many SEC schools listed in the top 25.

Looking ahead after the Trojan-Huskie game... USC has Ohio St. and Indiana on their schedule. Washington has Iowa, Nebraska, Indiana and Oregon on their schedule. The Huskies have the tougher schedule ahead. I want both schools to have four conference losses. So I'm pulling for the dawgs. Yuk!

So much for Villanova forward Duke Brennan becoming a Duck. He just signed with the Oklahoma Sooners. Just wondering if Altman is still looking for another big guy or is the basketball roster set. He does have 15 players already, which is the limit. But two of those guys are walk-on's so they could be cut from the team.

Absolutely. Jon Wilner, writing for the San Jose Mercury News had an offer last year that I couldn't pass up. Two years for only six dollars. Money well spent. And this latest offer is even better. If you like to read about football (and basketball) schools other than OBD, he is the go-to guy for excellent information.

Color me disappointed. As I mentioned in an earlier comment, the Ducks had 14 players on their roster. The NCAA allows 15. With Taylor Bol Bowen listed at 6'10, I was hoping that Altman would find someone who would be 6'11 or 7'0. Lin Wei is 6'4. I'm not optimistic for the upcoming season. Get ready for another bumpy ride in the B1G.

If you had told me before the season began that our Ducks would finish 3rd in the B1G, be the runner-up in the conference championship, win a regional and advance to a super regional I would have been stoked. Those are fine accomplishments that this current team achieved. Unfortunately, they fell short against Texas. Oregon's Achilles heel has been their pitching and inability to get runners home. Against the Longhorns their were 16 walks, 5 wild pitches, 1 balk, 6 hit batters and a whopping 24 guys left on base. Even with the pitching woes, I can't help think that with a few well place hits the Ducks would have won at least one of these games. But baseball can be a funny game. Look no further that the UCLA Bruins, ranked 1st all year long, only to lose at home in a regional. And # 2 Georgia Tech was also eliminated. All in all, it was a good season. Hats off to Coach Waz and the team. Go Ducks!

I will be doing a lot of scoreboard watching tonight. Our Ducks are in a two-way tie with Purdue for 4th place in the conference standings. Although mathematically possible that Oregon could end up in 2nd place, they need to secure a top four finish in the regular season for an opening round bye in the Big tournament games. The Ducks own the tie-breaker over Nebraska and Purdue, while Michigan has the tie-breaker over Oregon. Twelve of the conference teams advance to the tournament, while five are eliminated. At this time, Maryland and Northwestern are eliminated, which means three more schools will be eliminated after this weeks games. Games to follow this week-end: Ohio St. at Michigan Nebraska at Minnesota Purdue at Iowa Duck fans need to pull for Ohio St., Minnesota and Iowa.
