Marsh Duck Tuesday and I will say it is always more fun to talk about a win than a loss.

Oregon's Win Over Northwestern is a Testament to Experience

Is Jay Johnson the solution at Offensive Coordinator?

Thank you, David. Among many of your fine articles, this was one of the best.

Now, will the Ducks get a B1G road win?

"The defense didn't feel defeated by an inept offense."

I think this sums up the second half of the Illinois game. Nearly an entire half of defensive dominance was negated by one bad defensive play. The offense could never separate, then couldn't stay even and finally couldn't catch up. You felt the vibe of the D ebb one series after another as the offense became a parody of ineptitude.

Against Ohio State?

Yeah I'm not sure. The Ohio State offense has problems and so does their defense.

I have a feeling this might turn into a defensive slugfest and one that I think every point will matter. When it comes to the Oregon offense it doesn't need to be fancy it just needs to be executed and minimize the mistakes.

That's not to say the Ducks shouldn't take some shots down the field (they kinda need to) but it will be about building a sequence of plays that makes sense. Maybe that take that deep shot on first down and if it's incomplete don't follow second and third down with bad screen play. This was a Mehringer problem (granted I only have one game's worth of observations on Jay Johnson) where Mehringer would have a bad call and continue to follow it up with increasingly desperate calls. That can't be the case against Ohio State even in their weakened state.

There will be three-and-outs there will be stalled out drives. It will be about leaning into what works and executing it.

David, great article and comments.

Johnson may not have had previous success, but he learned what not to do. His experience allowed him to adjust in real time.

Maybe, at his previous stops, Johnson did not have so many talented players at the skill positions.

Consistency and practice reps paid off in the O line play againsy NW. You dont dominate the last 34 minutes of the game without the line executing st a solid level. Especially with a back up QB and your number 3 and 4 running backs. More of the same is needed each game.

Jay Johnson should keep running a variety of plays that work. With the goal to keep the Buckeye defense or any future defense off balance.

Work to push the ball down field vertically, not horizontaly.

Hats off to the half time adjustments on both sides of the ball. NW had no answers in the 2nd half. They had no answers!

While its a long shot, the Ducks can pull the upset against tOSU if they keep it close until the 4th quarter.

The defense needs to play a complete, 4-quarter game and keep the Buckeyes under 24 points.

The offense needs to minimize mistakes, stay away from 3rd and long and play to win. Start fast and don't dig sn early hole.

This teams has nothing to lose.

Go Ducks.

This ^^

His best OC job was when he had running back Kenneth Walker III at Michigan St.

Oregon's stacked with RB's and WR's so that has to make his job easier.

Thanks David.

Agreed we have not found the OC answer just yet, unless it was across the field.

I would think Chip would honor whatever contract he has with NWern and obviously we have no way of knowing if he was approached last year or if he would want to return.

In regard to Norvell, I think he will get an HC job as soon as the firing season is fully underway.
