Dan Lanning’s Jeremiah Smith Joke Brings Back Famous 12 Man MomentOregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning’s joke about needing an extra defender for Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith brought back a memorable moment between the programs. His NFL assessment of Smith was just as notable. Ohio State Buckeyes receiver Jeremiah Smith remembers the noise. Oregon coach Dan Lanning’s latest joke brought back another unforgettable part of Oregon’s 32-31 win over Ohio State in 2024. The first top-five showdown in Autzen Stadium history delivered a signature Ducks victory and an atmosphere that left an impression on the Buckeyes’ star receiver. "It was rocking. Probably the loudest I've ever been in. The fans were definitely getting hyped. Couldn't hear anything. Probably the best stadium I played in last year," Smith told Oregon Ducks On SI reporter Bri Amaranthus at Big Ten Media Days in 2025. When They Were at their Best, How Good Do You Think this Duck Team Is this Season?
To give an honest assessment, i must take my heart and love for the Ducks out of my thoughts and remove my uber optimistic, green and yellow biased lens glasses. I never fell for the off-season super hype about OBD's. How could the so called experts ignore some of the obvious concerns facing this 2026 Ducks team. That's the fans job! New, inexperienced OC and DC. And no depth on the staff at the skill positions to teach. Replacing 3 Oline players. If DL didnt feel this was critical he would not have pushed so hard for Seaton and a number of 5☆ recruits for the line. Seaton would have been a hugh addition. The off season was a miss for the Oline. We all saw the weakness in Dante's game. Dante and those around him recognized it and Dante returned so he could improve. There was no guarantee he would improve. I was excited that DL landed DR. But he was and is not a finished product. We are seeing that play out. And under DL, the Ducks struggled in the biggest games. It was exciting that DL got us to those games. Could he get OBD's over that hurdle.. Those concerns were real and some are still concerns. My 2026 prediction was for 10-2. That was my ceiling and my bottom for this years squad. The Ducks have yet to play a full 4 quarter game. If they do, then 9-3 is possible. 8-4 or 7-5 are in play if they don't. GO DUCKS!

FSU Fires Norvell
I think Lanning, Norvell and Dillingham all coached together at different stops and have the same offensive philosophy. Lanning poached Dilly from Norvell at FSU. I think going with Norvell would basically be going back to the Dilly offense.

Anybody Have a Good Autopsy On Ohio St's Loss?
That's what I saw too. If they are stuck with QB2 like we are, I like our chances.

Anybody Have a Good Autopsy On Ohio St's Loss?
I watched the game. Their freshman QB looked like a deer caught in the headlights. I would imagine that we will be planning to bring pressure and keep it all game long.

When They Were at their Best, How Good Do You Think this Duck Team Is this Season?
I don't think Oregon has been at their best yet. I think we are going to start seeing Oregons best game week after week as we go through Nov. They have settled on the O line FINNALY! Going into the 3rd game with the same starting five should help. I am not saying they are a great line but they are getting better now. Changing the OC seemed to help. It took a second to get going but the last 32:00 or so was pretty good football. This team has a bunch of talent. They ate the rat poison, died, and seemed to show signs of resurrection last week. Not sure where the ceiling is with this team. I know that last week win felt really good. It looked and felt different. There is a slim hope for this team to make the B1G CG, win it and get into the post season. Untill that's extinguished, I am going to root like crazy for my beloved Ducks. Scoo Ducks

Anybody Have a Good Autopsy On Ohio St's Loss?
Lincoln Riley is one of the top offensive minds in college football. He schemes players open. I’m not convinced that Oregon will have as much success offensively against Ohio State, unless USC Riola shows up in Columbus. Of course, Oregon’s defense is much better than the Trojan’s but we can’t rely on Ohio State drops. This year’s team is Jekyll and Hyde.

What Did You Think of Those Uniforms vs NW?
I didn't like wearing white pants that were the same color as the visiting team. Too many white pants! Not good for fans nor good for player recognition in a scrum.

MBB: Coverage of Men's Basketball Program (4)
I thought the team took another step forward tonight. Fewer turnovers and lots of assists. Pretty much everyone who played, scored, and they seemed more connected offensively. Their depth and athleticism really showed up. I think there is a lot of potential in this team.

What Did You Think of Those Uniforms vs NW?
Those jerseys remind me of Conan O'Brian in the year 2000 skits. Maybe its just me. But I am usually very positive about MOST of the other uni combos. These would have been a similar, yet better look. For me, its kind of like Will Stein syndrome: I wasn't so high on it at the time, but when I saw what replaced it, I appreciated what we had back then. These didn't have the colors, but at least they looked like Oregon uniforms.

Anybody Have a Good Autopsy On Ohio St's Loss?
Ohio St was out of sync. What was glaring were the drops. USC is a lot like Oregon this year. They have good players but are up and down and not reliable. But when they are "on", they can be pretty good. Ohio St did not have the fierce pass rush that top 5 teams usually have. Oregon will need to have its best game of the year just to stay close. But it could happen.

When They Were at their Best, How Good Do You Think this Duck Team Is this Season?
I don't think the O line is great either, but the OC made them look worse than they were. Now that the Ducks have a somewhat sensible OC who kind of knows what he is doing, lets see how the O line does vs OSU and Michigan. There must have been some kind of reason that Lanning did not replace everybody there from the portal.

MBB: Coverage of Men's Basketball Program (4)
Montana is one of the teams that is considered most likely to win the Big Sky. An 18-point win is not to be dismissed. I recall a few good Big Sky teams that caused us problems, such as the Idaho team that beat the team with Ronnie Lee and Greg Ballard, and the Kellerman years under Munson.

Anybody Have a Good Autopsy On Ohio St's Loss?
I think OSU really let all the circumstances get to them in a bad way. Long travel after a bye week, away game rainy when they needed to play from behind passing to win, first full game with the new QB. I think the QB was serviceable as Raiola, just the rest of the team didn't show up. All the penalties, drops, and missed tackles, an all around poorly executed game.
