  2. "Springfield Police told The Oregonian/OregonLive on Sunday that online rumors of street racing involving Oregon football players were unfounded, and that several Oregon players were contacted by police early Sunday morning because they were in the area of a separate pursuit. That pursuit, which resulted in Springfield Police discovering an abandoned vehicle, was unrelated to Stewart's alleged DUII arrest. Springfield PD is no longer pursuing the case involving the abandoned vehicle, an official said."
  3. As was pointed out after Saturday’s game. The OL struggles, the QB issues, the OC problems, the assistant questions, it starts with DL, but with all of that we have lost two games by a combined 10 points to two very good teams despite all of the struggles. So yes, this may be DL’s best coaching job yet. We are still in the hunt. Go Ducks!
  4. So many good points here. Thanks. Us old timers have to come to terms with the new world of college football: 1) Recruits generally not willing to wait for playing time. “Start or move on” mentality. 2) Parity is the new world caused by number 1 above facilitated by NIL and Portal. 3) Coaching carousel seems to be accelerating. 4) Fan impatience accelerated because of immense increase in dollars donated and corresponding expectations. For those who read Canzano he had a very good article today about the state of Oregon football. Bottom line: Lanning screwed the pooch when he hired his coordinators from within. And he knows it. (Canzano’s words not mine.) Worse than that is that there’s nothing Lanning can do but ride this lame race horse all the way to the finish line. Next offseason could be entertaining.

  6. While you certainly want to limit turnovers, you don’t want your QBs playing tight / not taking calculated risks, when the situation warrants it.
  7. Dylan Raiola showing maturity as a team player. Oregon Ducks On SIDylan Raiola Shares What Was Going Through His Mind Again...If Oregon Ducks quarterback Dylan Raiola’s football career could be described as an object, it would be a roller coaster. The 2026 season has been turbulent, to
  8. I don't remember his going for it on 4th Oregons side of the 50 over the past few games. He also kicked FG in the Neb game that kept us in striking distance. 7 turnovers in the UCLA game have me a crippling fear about ball security also. With the way this D has been playing, I would definitely go for it on 4th and 2 from my own 40 more than I would punt. Lanning punted the ball a lot v. Neb around mid field and pinned them deep in their own territory. I could be wrong but it seems that Lanning has been much more conservative the past few games.
  9. One thing I don't think can be overlooked is the impact of the timing of the playoff last year as it relates to the transfer window. As we all know, we lost both coordinators. We were heads down focused on beating Indiana in the playoff. And I don't think it's easy to grasp the competing priorities at that time of year. Not only are you trying to focus on winning a game. You're also trying to focus on retaining your players, which we all know didn't work out well for so many who left. You're also trying to keep those players from leaving to the coordinators that they know. And then you're trying to attract new talent or compete for transfer talent as well. With both coordinators leaving, the vast majority of that all falls on one man, Dan Lanning, something has to give, and you saw a disproportionate loss of talent as well as underutilizing the portal... and I believe that is catching up to us now, especially with the O-Line...
  10. It’s time Oregon Ducks fans dragged this into the light and addressed Dan Lanning’s coach speak. Throughout his tenure as a Ducks coach, Lanning has been more than willing to take risky gambles—going for it on fourth down deep in our own territory, dialing up fake punts, and executing onside kicks. You name it, he’s acted as the ultimate riverboat gambler, leaving us all scratching our heads and wondering what the hell he was thinking. Yet, out of the other side of his mouth, Lanning preaches discipline with the ball, demanding that his quarterbacks limit turnovers. Most recently, following Dylan Raiola's struggles and two interceptions against UCLA, Lanning has been rattling on with talking points and an incessant mantra about protecting the football—even going so far in his post-game conference to mention he told both quarterbacks that he was watching them closely in practice and whichever one protected the ball best would get the start. Looking at it plainly, it's a giant contradiction. Personally, I see it as a glaring sign of immaturity in coaching on Lanning's part. You can't gamble with reckless abandon in your own territory and then handcuff who is going to be your QB #1 under the guise of safety without being a hypocrite. Lanning started a QB with less talent for ball protection, and he barely got Raiola into this game in the nick of time to lead us to the comeback to the win.

  12. Another teaching moment! "Several UO players arrested"? Would like to know more about that. If true, it would explain the season. Does this bring into question Lannings control of this team?
  13. KATU: Evan Stewart Allegedly Booked on DUII Charge Well, this is about the last thing Oregon needed right now. Obviously, we should wait for all the facts to come out, but if this report is accurate, it's incredibly disappointing. These guys have every resource imaginable available to them to avoid getting behind the wheel after drinking. At some point, personal responsibility has to matter. Hopefully nobody was hurt, and I expect Lanning and the program to handle it appropriately once they have all the facts.
  14. Missing on the Oregon team? O-line talent and the starting QB. And based on more learned folks than I, problems with the schemes, coaching, and erratic play from backup QBs. And yes, this experienced team on defense in particular came into the season overconfident and without the attitude needed to win football games against top talent. Boise is good. OK State schould be in the top 25 and not 26th. 5-1 Nebraska coming into Autzen should have been ranked. 6-0 UCLA is the last undefeated team in the Big Ten. The only easy game was against Portland State. Oregon has played one of the most difficult schedules in the country. Bama - missing a run D. Georgia was defeated by Auburn because of turnovers. Florida defeated Texas because Archie is overrated; many of the Texas portal pickup players, especially WR Cam Coleman, were overrated, and Sark is not a championship coach. Missouri can't win an SEC game on the road. Which version of the Gators is going to show up? Will Stein is doing a superb job at Kentucky and is missed in Eugene. Nice win by BYU, helped by a fumble at the goal line when ND QB Carr was trying to spike the ball and instead fumbled; interference was not called on Utah on the last play of the game that should have been the penultimate play; ND's best DL player was ejected early for targeting, and ND had played against thin air before this game in the thin air of Provo. A bad holding call against the Seminoles helped Miami defeat FSU in double OT. Miami's only top-25 win was against Wake Forest; Miami's schedule is a joke. Miami is No. 1 in the AP Poll based on the Eye Test. Ohio State defeated Indiana because an experienced WR was not aware of where he was on the field and caught what should have been a walk-off TD pass over the wrong shoulder. NIL and free agency have dispersed the talent in CFB. The NFL's 'Any Given Sunday ' is now CFB 's' 'Any Given Saturday.' Can a Duck's D finally playing up to par carry Oregon to the PO? Is Dante done for the season? Will Oregon get the run game going? A lot of questions for Oregon, and a lot of questions across D1. Oh, and when an SEC team loses to another SEC team, it is not a loss, simply a bump in the gauntlet. Thanks for the post and the interesting question to ponder.
  15. The players are fine. The scheme isn't. The right scheme? This would be an elite defense and we would be undefeated had they showed up in September with the scheme. I see several teams that are going to crack it if we were fortunate enough to reach the playoffs. Of course, the install is flexible enough they could shift away from tendencies and actually dominate. As much as I love DL, he won't do that. All the points scored this year are do to scheme (and looking at that damn QB). Change the scheme to better fit the talent and this is a 14 PPG unit ( and nobody would have scored 20 this year). My opinion of course.
  16. Perhaps the internal promotions of both coordinators was intended or even required to retain the players that were pondering leaving. Relationships matter.
  17. In my experience I believe five star talent becomes three star with mediocre coaching and three star athletes become NFL draft picks with outstanding coaching. There really isn’t a huge difference between the athletic ability of top G6 schools (like Oregon State) and schools like Nebraska or UCLA. The real difference is between the ears (coaching) and strength training (more coaching). Also, confidence and fire in the belly don’t hurt either. Of course there are a handful of elite schools that the G6 just can’t compete with. Usually. Then I slap myself for saying such a thing. I don’t think BYU has anywhere near the talent of Notre Dame. But their level of determination and refusal to lose was off the charts. If Oregon had the BYU mindset and culture the Ducks would be almost impossible to beat. Kinda like Indiana but with better athletes.
  18. I looked at BYU's schedule, and if they beat #10 Utah. I don't see them losing this year. What would their record be if they were in the B1G or SEC? If Miami beats Notre Dame, the same could be said for them. The ACC and Big Twelve are miles behind. Will BYU be the number one seed should they win out, and Miami loses to the only threat on their schedule? Will Notre Dame get a home playoff game if they lose to the only two threats on theirs? There was an ESPN article debating if Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State will leave the B1G because of the 24 team playoff. Essentially saying those three would just prefer to schedule like Notre Dame, instead of having nine conference games. I would take this article more seriously if he put some SEC programs in that hypothetical situation as well. After all, the SEC slate is just a meat grinder. That one extra conference game is just too much. ESPN has been spouting that off for weeks now.
  19. ...but know Mehringer will call it: The quick throw to the slot receiver who is running parallel behind the line of scrimmage looking backwards at the QB the whole time waiting to catch the ball. That cost us 3 yards after the Nebraska Punter kneel-down. What idiot thinks it's a great idea to blind fold their WR behind the line of scrimmage with the ball like that. It probably takes half a second to turn your head and torso round 270 degrees and another half a second to process where the defense is at and another quarter second to begin the process of changing your momentum direction, all the while the defenders have been staring you down moving at 7+ yards per second to intercept you. I realize there are blockers, but there is so much space they are blind blocking for, and often a nickel or OLB is unblocked moving like a heat sealing missile. It's just so stupid, but I'm sure the mad scientist thinks he doing a great job getting the ball to his best players in space, ugh! I've got a name for it now.. "The sitting Duck" play.
  20. If only my prior sarcastic idea of having Terry replace the Duck doing pushups every time Nebraska got a TFL or sack we would have seen waaaaaay more pushups.
  21. It gives me solace that a 24 team playoff will ensure that any team that could possibly win the Natty is not left out despite this madness. Sure some 25-30 ranked teams will be screwed over but they weren't going to win it all.
  22. What evidence do we have to think Smith will be better than Thomas or Raiola? Moore regressed, Thomas regressed, Dylan certainly isn't any consistently better than at Nebraska. Is it the fall speak that he improved so much, just like they said we have 8 OL that can play winning football and that Mehringer is a mad scientist? The odds of Koa Kai turning Smith into an excellent player to lead us to victory when Railo has sucked and Thomas sucked and they still went back to Raiola, is slim to none and Slim left town a while ago.
  23. Its hard to complain after our performances thus far, but we've got a basketful of 2-loss SEC teams ranked ahead of us, and some of those have no quality wins. No issue with us being on the outside with something to prove to claw back up, but this 'ranked opponent' feedback loop has the SEC with 5 two-loss teams ranked in the AP. All other conferences combined: zero. This will matter later for playoff bubble teams.
  24. There were simply too many "play it safe, Brock can't make that throw" calls the first three quarters. Though I don't think this is a great offensive line, when the QB is a threat to throw the ball down field and you have the receivers our Ducks have it opens up better lanes for running also. It's hard for the O-line to look any good at all when there is zero threat to stretch the field because the QB can't make that throw. A constant diet of bubble screens, five yard outs and flair passes allows the defense to d exactly what Nebraska did early last night, throw 7-9 players in the box to stop the run and dare you t win on Brock Thomas' arm. Oregon didn't take the dare.
  25. Thomas can be a good back up QB when he is playing with an O-line that's going to make holes for running backs and set up play action to get receivers open enough for him to hit them. I agree with you totally he is in over his head vs. top 25 or close to that competition. Even with his performance vs UCLA, I'd go with Raiola and then Smith. The likelihood of this team making the play offs now is slim and these guys need to be ready to be #s 1 and 2 next year. I also think we have a better chance of winning this year with them.
  26. Thanks Jon. The Ducks defense looked like what we were expecting, against what has been a pretty explosive Husker offense. Hopefully Raiola can play like he did vs his old team, in the upcoming weeks. You beat Ohio State, and you are back in playoff contention. Florida might be able to play spoiler against Georgia, and yes Kentucky. That would help clear the way.
