USCs 2nd team is horrible. It will be interesting to see how Oregons 2nd unit looks, how much drop off. With all the hype around Oregon, sure hope they can start pulling the 1s early 3rd. Dan will pull them for sure.

I have a Duck-Buddy who wondered what the majority of us Oregon fans were thinking on this issue--if the game goes well for the Ducks....do we think Dan Lanning will run the score up on Boise State to make a national statement of which can help us as the season progresses? Or do we think he will not, and use this opportunity to play the reserves, and get them some playing time at game-speed? Fox Crader I vote for him playing the reserves, because we MUST build depth. It is a long season, and we need the great young talent to get confidence in a game, and thus be ready to start later. Fox Crader gave himself, the coaches, and the fans great confidence with his play in the USC game last year, but he gave us glimpses in earlier games when he came in briefly. Which do you choose? Both help the team one way or the other...

when abroad, we use a VPN (Nord but there are others) and simply use Xfinity stream--one benefit of cable. the vpn uses a Seattle server, or whatever location you choose; and the provider thinks that is where we are. Some channels are restricted to in home wifi and i have to record those and watch later.

Virginia -5.5 vs NC State. The Cowboys model in part copies Cig's first year at Indiana. Coach Eric Morris has brought many of his best North Texas players with him from North Texas to Stillwater. Mike Gundy had thrown in the towel. I'm not certain that Coach Morris had any choice but to start from scratch. We get to watch QB Mestemaker and listen to the Paddle People in Week 2.

I doubt it works. Not sure following a model that was mostly successful due to covid rules that no longer apply is a solid strategy. IU was the oldest team in the playoff field last year. And I think it may not have been close outside of Miami (the other NC participant). Oregon was the youngest team in the CFP. Experience matters. This year's Ducks should capitalize on being a year older. When you have 25 yo grown men coming into the prime of physical development coupled with mental maturity under duress intercepting balls or slinging the rock, it makes a huge difference. The model OSU and UM followed in 23' and 24' was, in my opinion, the same that helped IU win in 25. Maturity and experience. I do recognize the lack of blue chip ratio between IU and tOSU/UM. So I have to give Cig some respect, he can coach for sure. But age and experience, to me, played a much bigger role. Oregon run, being the youngest in the field, was pretty remarkable. Lanning deserves some respect in taking such a young team deep into the playoff. I highly doubt Okie State can duplicate what IU did last year. I doubt IU can duplicate it. I could be wrong though.

With the tools he has on Ohio State's 2026 offense, new OC Arthur Smith better put up a lot of points. Many Ohio State fans criticized Day's hire of Matt Patricia as DC. A coach with NFL experience and next to no college coaching experience. In 14 games, Ohio State held opponents to an average of 9.3 points a game. It was OC Brian Hartline's offense that no-showed in the two most important games of the season against Indiana and Miami. As was the case with Stein and Tosh, Hartline had to focus on recruiting and portal picking at his new job as HC of USF. With the game shortened by the clock not stopping for 1st downs except in the final two minutes of a half, Day, like many college coaches, has slowed the game down on offense. Fewer possessions also mean more teams going for it on 4th down. The hiring of NFL guy Arthur Smith to replace Hartline has been roundly criticized. But I think Smith, who was the Titans HC and most recently the OC with the Steelers, fits Day's more NFL-oriented game plan. The Patricia hire worked out, and I think it will be the same with Smith.

Since it doesn't involve a player injury, I'll go ahead and hope for it.

I understand how on paper the Buckeyes look great....but I was blown away talking to a VERY informed Ohio State fan...a former FishDuck editor who is incredibly knowledgeable. She is a little depressed at losing the former OC, and having Arthur Smith replace him. She feels that his track record is not impressive, and doubts that he has the chops to duplicate what has been done on offense at Columbus in the past. She stated that if the Buckeyes disappoint this year--it will be due to him! Something to watch for...
