I think we can handle their physicality. It takes them about 15 minutes to get into rhythm. A quick start against them is key. Also, five in the Line if scrimmage kills their offense. They don't have the dudes to block our top 8 guys ( so the combo doesn't really matter). This is a test of whether OBD defense can hold a solid team under 17 points. That's my standard for this game. That moves the needle for me- towards being capable of reaching and excelling in the playoffs. Very good take. UCLA is well coached.

I've seen plenty of support and well wishes online from Husky fans and media types. Most even expressed that they were happy we beat USC, which is being reciprocated by Duck fans hoping the Huskies beat USC this Saturday.

David, your observations are spot on. I didn't really want to get into this discussion this early out of respect for Dante and the team, but inevitably, the topic was going to be brought up. I have my thoughts on how this plays out, but will refrain and wait for a larger sample size. I think it's prudent that Dylan starts against UCLA for Dante's continued healing. I'm sure Dante was really looking forward to playing his former team, but his former team has had a complete makeover.

It has been reported, but not confirmed by the Power 4, that representatives of the four conferences have met and are in agreement on a revenue-sharing cap of $44 million per annum and a separate player retention cap. $5 million would be available for non-revenue sports. NIL deals would be scrutinized to ensure they are not being used to exceed the cap. However, without antitrust protection from Congress and without a bargained-for agreement with the athletes, the caps will not pass legal review.

The Ducks won because their best plays carried more value, their situational football was better, and they beat their efficiency baseline in Los Angeles.There is a temptation to look at Oregon’s 41-27 win over USC and see a fairly conventional explanation. The Ducks gained 504 yards, averaged 7.4 yards per play, did not turn the ball over and scored every time they reached the red zone. USC finished with 446 yards and 5.9 yards per snap, and what had been a tie game early in the fourth quarter eventually became a two-touchdown margin. The box score says Oregon made more plays and eventually pulled away. The advanced profile says something more useful. Oregon and USC finished with identical 35% offensive success rates and identical 42% rushing success rates, while their leverage rates and percentage of passing downs were almost the same. USC actually produced more explosive plays. The difference was not how often the teams generated successful snaps. The difference was how much value Oregon extracted from them, especially through the passing game and in the highest-leverage situations. That distinction becomes even more important when the opponent adjustment is considered. USC entered the game fifth nationally in adjusted offensive EPA per play at +0.43, 10th in raw offensive EPA per play at +0.32 and seventh nationally in EPA per dropback at +0.53. Jayden Maiava entered as the national leader in total passing EPA among qualified quarterbacks, with 69.21 EPA through four games and 0.59 EPA per dropback. Oregon, meanwhile, entered with an adjusted offensive EPA per play of -0.23, ranking 108th nationally. That is why this Audit matters more than the raw 41 points. Oregon did not simply beat USC. The Ducks performed far above their own established offensive efficiency baseline while forcing one of the nation’s best offenses into a much less efficient game than it had been producing.
