SEC, Big Ten Vote to Support Congressional College Sports Bill After Mad Scramble
A B1G sigh of relief from ACC and B12 HQ. The Bill, which limits conferences to no more than 19 teams, could bring an end to Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC, and Texas Tech's, etc., dream of moving up to the Power 2. Except for Notre Dame and UConn, to join a P4 conference, a program has to play as an independent for five seasons. A cap on conference expansion might keep equal media revenue and close to equal postseason revenue distribution in place in the B1G and the SEC. Don't like it, where are you going to go? A 19-team conference cap = The Big Ten is reserving a spot for Notre Dame; however, the ACC is enabling ND's independence through 2037, On3ACC, Big 12 release statements on Big Ten, SEC decision t....

SEC, Big Ten Vote to Support Congressional College Sports Bill After Mad Scramble
Whereas, I like you would support the Bill its results are only a part of the needed changes. The timing is critical to begin “turning the ship” away from the looming iceberg. I do not like to see the federal government taking measures to overreach into collegiate sports which desperately need their own governing body to replace the intended and historical roles of the NCAA. I believe there should be two new bodies, if not more. College football is enough different and if a scale to require it’s own governing body. The other collegiate sports could have their own. I wonder sometimes if football should be divided further with a conference or division of the top 60 or so teams, and separate governance and regulations for the remaining D1, D2, and D3 or others. Their needs, environments, revenues and the situations of the athletes (compensation, meals, training and medical, scale, etc.) are dramatically different and one size fits all may not be the best now and the future. Evolve or die.

The benefits outweigh the concerns. Football needs some regualtory restraint before it spends itself into oblivion; at least the oblivion of non-revenue sports. With the Power 2 supporting the measure, as amended, it will likely be approved by the Senate. But the House? The Power 2 fight on the field, on the airwaves, and in the press, but when it comes to the survival of college sports, the two conferences need one another. Whether the Bill passes or not, the next thing that needs to be fixed is a crazy CFB calendar that has signing day and the portal opening during the CFB playoffs, which penalizes the most successful programs. And the season has to begin and end earlier. If Fox steps up along with other media entities not owned by Disney and comes with the money to be a CFB post-season player, a 24-team PO could be here by 2028.

With the 2 conferences on board, the Protect College Sports Act appears to have a good chance of approval in the SenateThe Big Ten and SEC have struck a deal with federal lawmakers over legislation to regulate the college sports industry. Each of the league's presidents and chancellors voted Friday evening to swing their support behind the Protect College Sports Act in a stunning and about-face development that thrusts the legislation forward. The two conferences announced the deal via a joint statement on Friday night. https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/article/sec-big-ten-vote-to-support-congressional-college-sports-bill-after-mad-scramble-001809916.html
