WSJ - Is It Rude To Win a Game 84-0?
DL isn't going to pass up opportunities for real game reps, regardless of score or opponents. It's not against any rules. If people don't like this then change something else. My high school league had a 45 point rule. Once you were winning by 45 the game was over. To avoid this one time to get more reps our coach called a play "bad snap" to turn the ball over to the other team so we could play some more. Then there was the time we played Oregon School for the Deaf, and it was dangerous playing a team that couldn't hear the whistle, so we 45'd them as fast as possible.

Don't Look Now, but Beaver's QB is better than Dante Moore.
Beavers QB Atkinson leads the FBS in passing. I just watched him for the first time with Montana State highlights and his passing and feel for the game is legit, he passes the eye test in a way Dante Moore does not. Similar to Sagapoleute at Cal, who I wish had stayed with us.

I'm Glad We Lost!
Yeah even if it was intentional ground.

Marsh Duck - Quick Quack: Oregon vs PSU
I thought I saw him holding his chin a little but higher pre-snap on pass plays. Saw the receivers taking a siesta lining up for run plays. Yes, I'm joking. Now that the other teams know, that we know that they know our tells, they won't trust them when they see them. Yes, I'm being serious.

Marsh Duck - Quick Quack: Oregon vs PSU
Never as bad as it looks, never as good as it looks couldn't be more true than for these last two games. No brain baking, energy sapping heat to hold them back, reenergized mentally and emotionally by the online defamation, and Dan losing a few shoes up people behinds... And then there are the players; they responded well too...haha.

Overheating in Stillwater Isn't Just an Excuse
Our fan base is hopelessly negative right now. The willing refusal to accept scientific facts AND anecdotal evidence in most replies is making me more mad than our performance. So I'll do y'all one worse: Dante Moore and Drew Mehringer had a decent game according to analysts play by play assessment. Not perfect, but good enough to win. Others were making the more damning mistakes on offense. But I'm sure that's the last thing anyone wants to hear right now. See y'all next week.

Overheating in Stillwater Isn't Just an Excuse
The new indoor facility is still under construction. Maybe Dan is making some phone calls to those making the new indoor facility to see just how hot they can crank that thing up to. Would be great if they could add some industrial strength humidifiers while they are at it.

Taking a Moment to Give Devon Jackson Props
He also defended some passes well. All in all 14 direct points in Oregon's favor is a heck of a day. Seeing the replay of him blowing by Aaron Flower to save the Mestermaker touchdown, I wonder if they would be better switching spots LoL. But really his speed and acceleration are otherworldly. By the time he was able to release from the blocker to give chase, Mestermaker was 5 yards ahead and nearly at full speed and Devon only had about 50 yards to catch him. Absolutely unreal. And at his size, it doesn't even look fast because he's so big, but it's scary as heck.

Overheating in Stillwater Isn't Just an Excuse
Here is what AI "Claude" has to say when I asked "What are the effects of Hyperthermia on athletic and mental performance." For those that are going to say "It was hot for OSU too." I'll put what it says about acclimating first. Performance also depends on hydration status, acclimatization, and individual heat tolerance — well-acclimatized athletes can maintain performance at higher core temperatures than unacclimatized ones. Hyperthermia (elevated core body temperature) impairs both physical and cognitive performance, generally in a dose-dependent way as core temperature rises above ~38–39°C. Athletic performance: Reduced endurance capacity — time to exhaustion drops sharply as core temp approaches ~40°C, a threshold linked to central fatigue Decreased muscle power output and increased perceived exertion for the same workload Cardiovascular strain: blood is diverted to the skin for cooling, reducing blood flow to working muscles and raising heart rate at a given intensity ("cardiovascular drift") Faster glycogen depletion and dehydration, compounding fatigue Increased risk of heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke at the extreme end Mental/cognitive performance: Slower reaction times and reduced attention/vigilance Impaired decision-making and executive function, especially in complex tasks Working memory and short-term memory take a hit Mood effects — increased irritability, perceived fatigue, and reduced motivation Above roughly 39–40°C core temp, cognitive decline becomes more pronounced and consistent across studies. It was measuring 97F in the stadium and likely higher on the field, with the level of humidity was probably a heat index of 110-115, and they are in pads and a helmet! Without a doubt their bodies were redlining on temp, and you body doesn't care about you trying to win a game, it's literally trying to dump enough heat to survive. And if you don't think Dan Lanning's brain was baked by the 4th quarter with two delay of games that NEVER happen and going for it on 4th and 8 from his own 30 yard line when there are 3 minutes and 3 timeouts left, then I don't know what to tell you. I saw a tweet from an OSU fan that said he was seated near the entrance to the Duck locker room and going into halftime they looked absolutely exhausted. I grew up in Oregon and lived in St. Louis. There is no way to go from 60s and 70s to that kind of weather overnight and perform. It's an out of body experience, but with time I acclimated to go on runs when it was that hot out, come back in a pile of sweat feeling fine, opening the door to my apartment that was A/C'd to a dry 80 degrees and it felt like an icebox! Anyways, don't get me wrong, we've got real problems that need to be corrected, but for the entire sports media industrial complex and fans to act like this wasn't a factor for them playing uninspired and with poor execution is more than a bit unfair.

The Sick Feeling: 'We're Not As Good As I Hoped.....'
It could be bit like Penn State 2025 where seemingly small changes in the roster and coordinator changes lacked chemistry with the players. Maybe having Bryce Boetcher graduating took away the heart and soul of the defense. Not having him flying around out there like psycho has to be a different vibe. I'm wondering if that is why will Stratton was in for a bit, seeing if a walk on could inspire the team to play the game with heart. Tosh may not have been the best play caller, but the dude had a vibe that will make you lock in and ball. On the Offense, the struggle is real with the OL. The 3 players we lost may not have been all World (pun intended), but they were experienced and consistent and gelled with the each other. I do believe Dan Lanning is better than James Franklin and will refuse to accept this team falling apart. Mehringer's play calling seemed better to me this game and I thought I saw some adjustments at halftime that helped. It's certainly no fun to be calling plays with a struggling run game. Then again, Drew Mehringer was shut out 4 games as the OC at Rutgers in what some called the worst offensive season in the history of the school, which is kind of a lot of years. At the post game press conference, Dan said heis still not down and out enough to question the current offensive and defensive schemes that "worked well for us for years", so if you are really sick of them, you had better hope we keep losing until Dan seriously questions them.

What Happened to the TV Coverage?
ESPN did this game dirty. I only feel bad for OSU though. There are worse things for us than most of the nation missing that 4th quarter on ESPN News.

Oregon Ducks Equipment Room Tells a Bigger Story About Nike
"We kind of call ourselves the guinea pigs of college football.” Remember 2021 when 6 people were out with foot injuries? I blamed Nike then and this only reinforced my opinion. I remember another time when we tried out a new style of helmet and everyone got headaches, thank goodness it was just the off-season. There are pros and cons to this.

Downward Trend
I'd like to throw out another possible correlation...the only teams Dan Lanning has ever lost to were teams that played or won the national championship or teams with orange and black jerseys with school acronyms of OSU.

Ducks Need to Tamper Down All the PR Videos?
I'm not sure the hype videos are the rat poison, and those are still great for recruiting.

The Prediction Contest Winner vs. Oklahoma State is....
Good call Mr Fischer. Looking forward to getting right next week.

Downward Trend
You're free to define a trend across the last few games of one season and the first two games of the next season in college football, but there are too many variables for me. It's too early in the season to write us off as being capable of being a good team.

The Sick Feeling: 'We're Not As Good As I Hoped.....'
It's never as bad as it looks either. There is a world where Ok State is in the B12 title game and Finishes in the top 20 right beside Boise State. It's flat out unfair for players with bodies conditioned to 60-70 degree dry air to suddenly play in 97 degree ultra high humidity air. It melts your brains and turns your muscles to jello. They were out in it way too long with the lightning delay to boot after getting up at 4am. Remember all the bad games against Arizona teams in November in the PAC12 when it was summer weather in AZ but we were used to fall weather? I believe it's harder to play good going from mild to too hot l, than going from mild to super cold. The game is over and so yes I'm making excuses, but this horrible loss is not inexplicable. We certainly have issues to fix with the inexperienced players, but if BSU and Ok State are really good and the weather impacted our players as badly as I have experienced before, there is still a possibility for this team to be really good this year. Natty? no, but playoffs? still possible. Next game.. Lastly I hope Carl Williams is okay, they showed him getting knocked out cold and he could barely even walk after he woke up. Tough to see.

I Have Said (Many Times) That I Would Run Through a Wall for Dan Lanning...
He's as good as we can get for now. He's still young, so question is if he will learn from mistakes, or has he peaked? I think he will get better.

We are certainly in striking distance to win if we come out as a completely different team in the second half. But the heat and humidity won't change and honestly that is by far the biggest factor for our poor play. It's really a shock to the body and mind to go from the dry Pacific NW air to a hot and very humid environment.

The WRs aren't explosive and aren't getting open. The heat is killing us.

I'm with Drew Mehringer, F'me. These guys are in a high heat, high humidity fog. Dante Moore is having his worst game as a Duck. Nothing is on target But the worst thing is he is scared of his shadow in the pocket and not seeing open receivers when they get open. Whoever drafts Dante Moore is going to get fired...He just doesn't have the natural awareness required for the position.

It takes a tremendous amount of skill to tip a ball at the LOS, and have a linebacker that can catch it in the middle of the field and run it back 96 yards.

Devon Jackson has given 11 points in the 1st quarter. Not bad for a defensive player. 😀 It's nice to see his speed finally make a difference.

I'm worried that partway through the game, when the next televised game starts, ESPN is going to switch to ESPN News that nobody gets or their streaming app. Good like trying to record that. The good news is the delay puts the game a bit later for the duck players for a more normal game time, although it's already too late the effects of waking up super early. Perhaps they can take a siesta. The other benefit is the thunderstorms do cool down temps significantly, but the humidity will still be ridiculous.
