Ohio State squares off against six of The Sporting News Preseason Composite Top 25: At (2) Texas, at (4) Indiana, (5) Oregon, at (13) USC, (14) Michigan, and at (21) Iowa. The Navy team wears blue uniforms; the Irish have a Blue Chip Roster. The ten P4 teams on Notre Dame's 2026 schedule went 56-70 in 2025, including Miami, which finished 13-3. The ten P4 teams on Ohio State's 2026 schedule finished 93-37. The Buckeyes nine Big Ten opponents finished 83-34 Oregon plays: At (1) Ohio State, at (13) USC, (14) Michigan, (22) Washington, and 2025 bowl teams Nebraska, Illinois, and Northwestern. OBD's conference opponents finished 45-36, dragged down by UCLA and Michigan State. If the Football Committee paid attention to the strength of schedules like the Basketball Committee, the variance in schedules might be acceptable. They don't, and it isn't acceptable. After possibly saving the ACC and the B12, this variance in schedule strength is why I want a 24-team playoff field. Beat Boise!

To date, the 8 teams with byes are 1-7 in the 2nd round. 13 days between the quarterfinals and semifinals. 13 or 14 days between the semis and the champ game. (Is anyone still awake? Tony Petitti's 24-team format is so much better than this stuff, including the season starting and ending earlier with a field double the size, and two bye weeks for every team every season. Great comment, David, thanks. BTW, I miss Monday with Marsh. From what I've read and also heard in Dixie, with Florida and South Carolina in the conference, the SEC is not that interested in FSU and Clemson. The team in the south that is considered to be the prize is North Carolina, where the B1G and the SEC do not have a presence. The rumor is that the B1G would take both UNC and Duke to incentivize UNC to go B1G. Both are AAU member schools and are more aligned with Big Ten academics than any other option. What Texas Tech has going for it is booster Cody Campbell's ability to write large checks. I think TT would be willing to join the SEC at a reduced revenue split. But both Texas and A&M would push back. A&M beefed about the conference bringing in Texas and Oklahoma, but the brands overcame any dissent. ESPN's willingness to pay more for the additional inventory also helped. How would ESPN value adding teams in markets that are covered today? I hope CFB moves to a 24-team format as soon as possible to avoid a Super Conference and a Group of 8.

Terrific article by Scott Dochterman on The Athletic ($ Wall) today. Scott has done a 180 on the 24-team CFB playoff. He now believes the expanded field will not ruin the regular season but save CFB from consolidating into a Super Conference and an G8.
