Interesting to look at our depth chart. The scholarship players who seems buried deepest is Jonathan Flowe. It seems the first visible move by the staff is to move a kid deep into the depth chart, then the student athlete transfers. It would seem all the qb's have decided to stay for now, who is next?

My kids always say our house has never seen a food delivery. We can cook and clean, and when we go out it is for a very nice meal. The kids always comment on how their friends are always ordering out and getting delivery, just not how we roll. My neighbor always wonders why we have so little garbage, we also don't waste a lot. All this guessing drives me nuts. Let's stick to the facts. Lincoln Riley has lost 10 games as a head coach, our coach is undefeated. Yes, I said it, he has never lost as a head coach. I'll take the undefeated guy every time! Our coach also beat Riley head to head for the top recruit Conerly. Until the facts start adding up for Riley, sc is just who they have always been, a place where head coaches, most of the time, go to die. Oregon is and always has been the place where coaches thrive, and our guy is doing just that.

Context is also needed, CK coached one season against Pete and then Kiffin, while the dawgs had Cutty Sark. Mario coached against Helton at SC and then finished against the mistake on the Lake at the w. CK was gifted the perfect set up with coaches and inertia, but Mario coached against a dumpster fire of a Pac-12. Lanning now competes against Riley, and DeBoer, both very capable coaches. He also faces a very strong Utah, and what seems to be some other programs on the rise. We need to have patience with Lanning, and understand the context of his record going forward. Agree 77% while pounding on a dumpster fire isn't as good as it sounds at first sight. CK also inherited a nice set up. Lanning doesn't have a huge head wind, but he is building a lot on his own. Pistol stench, prevent offense, all in the review mirror, thankfully! Forgot Lanning inherits a schedule where he plays two top ten teams in the first three weeks to start his career. Now that is a head wind he will have to get through. I suppose he is thrown into a dumpster fire while MC just competed against one.

I might add a 40 plus yard pass that is intercepted is just a very good punt. I have no problem with a few long ball mistakes, as long as there are also some memorable explosion plays. Maybe the qb's need to be trained to make the long balls more of a jump ball on third and long. With our tall receivers, and the potential for a big play this isn't a bad strategy. Certainly better than the 3 attempt at running up the gut! After a long interception a quick 3 and out by the defense can then be chalked up as a massive gain by the team. I suppose it all comes down to how you look at the risk reward. I look at the risk as an opportunity to turn it into a big gain, either way, something to think about! Explosions on offense and havoc on defense, bring it on!

When you swing for the fence, the defense has to move back, creating a larger field of play, thus more open spaces. When the defense knows it only has to defend the line of scrimmage, and usually a couple gaps the game is pretty simple. I look forward to a more wide open offense and even the occasional explosive mistake. I think our defense will revel in the challenge. I have a feeling Autzen is going to be rocking with the players, fans and coaches dancing more that just at the end of the third quarter, once again. A bunch of high fiving and thriving will be arriving once this show gets into production. Once again The Oregon Football Program is going to be must watch football. Agree completely with this quote, Recruiting is about stacking advantages, about finding as many cards as you can because one is eventually going to be the trump card for someone. Lanning and his team of coaches see the advantages Oregon has and they all bring advantages. As has been noted, probably the biggest advantage is this team of coaches have is knowing how to develop players. Developing players into a team of individuals focused on team goals and individual development. We may never out recruit Texas A$M, but we can out develop them and out scheme them, and win it all. The card game is all set with these guys ready to pull of the card trick of the century. That trump card just might be our staff!

It just shows that you better dominate in the Pac-12 if you want to play in the NFL. Guys who think they are pretty good in the Pac-12 don't understand the competition in the SEC or at the elite level. I also think we had too many guys who were ok with being pretty good in the Pac-12 and thought that might translate to the NFL, and it didn't. Hopefully Lanning can get guys to realize pretty good isn't good enough. I remember Keith Lewis as an Oregon Duck and a new coach describing the injustice that was done to him by previous coaches. He had so much talent which wasn't challenged while at Oregon. One year under new coaching got him drafted, and he ended up holding on to a 5 year NFL career, but he had so much more talent to develop. I hope we don't see guys leaving our program without realizing their full potential as much as they have in the recent past. A growth mindset and wanting to improve in all areas will help. Looking forward to some hungry student athletes developing to greatness again.

I don't see any Oregon coaches seated in that courtroom. Oregon Duck Football Players, but slick might as well have his name taken out of Oregon history as far as I am concerned, along with his strength coach. He certainly can't be considered an Oregon coach. I would give him the name of defendant in a lawsuit. It’s hard to see former Oregon Ducks football players and defendants seated in a courtroom. there, fixed it.

Helfrich's old house, actually brand new, sold for 2.4 in 2018. It was only 7k sf, but 10 acres. My bet we don't see anything too crazy on Lanning's part, at least not Riley or Cristobal crazy. The lifestyle of Eugene of doesn't seem to go with the castles seen in a big city, thankfully.

He also then cherry picks a couple student athletes off the National Title team and makes what looks like a slam dunk argument. What he doesn't note is there is also the College Advisory Committee which advises players on entering the draft. This isn't a sales pitch like an agent would give the players. Most student athletes should know the difference between what an agent, who wants to make money off of them, and an advisory groups opinion. While I agree too many players go into the draft with rose colored glasses, it is their job to evaluate the data which is valid in their decision making process. This will undoubtedly be just one of those tough decisions they will have to learn from. Welcome to the real world, or the beginning of the real world where you are taken advantage of at just about every turn, and it is buyer beware. You can also look at Metchie from Alabama and draw a completely different conclusion about staying in college. He was a first round lock if he came out last year, dropped after tearing his ACL, and didn't win the natty this year. Bottomline, getting a free education at an elite football program is going to be a lot of these guys highlight of their lives. They may not realize it now, but they have it pretty darn good at the University of Oregon's Football Program.

That is a lot of competition for one ball. It does seem our RB coach takes under appreciated guys, and turns them into NFL talent. Student athletes seem to be buying into what he is selling, I like it. Now we need to see the production, onward!

As they say, the toothpaste is out of the tube, and it's not going back in. The positive, and the same for the Pac-12, is there is new leadership on its way. Now this leadership won't be able to pull back the mess it inherits, but strong leadership with foresight can better guide both forward. Fortunately our ship is in order, Oregon is well run, from top to bottom. We have an amazing coach, an AD who seems to be up to the task, and an alumni base that is both strong and effective. This leads me to my story which is the strength I have gained from just worrying about what I can control and my little world. I don't worry about the big picture stuff. I can't effect change at that level and it is wasted energy. The same can be said for all this NIL and Transfer portal stuff. While I ponder, at times the big stuff, I focus on my tube of toothpaste. Right now it is full and nobody is messing with it. The NCAA and the Pac-12 have a mess to clean up. I feel fortunate, as a Duck, we live in a world where not just 9-10 dentists recommend Crest, but 10-10 Duck fans recommend the Ducks and aren't going for any other brand!

I feel sorry for our program. We lost 3 of our last 4 games and these guys were a part of that failure. They had an opportunity to be coach by Lanning and they didn't take it. I feel sorry for the student athletes who don't have opportunities not those who make choices which seem to not work out. Failure is just the stepping stones to success, unless you stand on that failure too long, then the stepping stones sink! I wish each of these guys the best with the choice they made, but no sorrow coming from me. They made a choice, it is now time to make the best of it. They may want to get use to this process, as life if full of it.

No team in the CFP schedules last years national champs as an away game for their first game. So starting out with a win to make the playoffs shouldn't be on our must do list, or anywhere close to that high of expectation. Don't get me wrong I want the Ducks fighting to win every game, the Georgia game included. If Lanning has the Ducks doing that then we will do just fine in recruiting. The playbook for the CFP teams is to schedule a name and drill them for their first game. Alabama has done that, last year against Miami, and also USC in the past, but never as an away game. I suppose they are usually neutral sites, but the teams usually fold and the site isn't too neutral like Atlanta isn't. What I want to see is Oregon to play them tough. I want to see a team that stays hungry, and doesn't get full of themselves. One item I think we need to keep in mind is the growth mindset is also the resilient mindset. It is a mindset which fails often and keeps fighting on. This failure doesn't always include losing, but there is a lot of so what, now what. That is what I want to see after the Georgia game, after a hard fought game with lots to improve upon. If fans are trying to be realistic about this team and the new coaching staff what do others see as the likely outcome of the season, and tough first game? I'm just wanting to see improvement and resilience. I think a hard fought loss is the most likely road to that outcome.

All I know is we need to lose to Georgia to start the season. A team needs to grow as the season goes along, not peak early with an upset. Last season Oregon peaked early with an upset and then lost its last 3 of 4 games. It also got upset in a game they should have won. I will take a loss in the first game as long as we finish strong, and play all teams to our potential. When you have a big upset win, there is almost always a let down and the team has a hard time keeping the momentum. This is why I want to see us lose against Georgia, and even get upset by BYU. What is important is we get better as the season progresses and end up winning some maybe we shouldn't have to set us up for recruiting and the next season. I could see a loss at Georgia, maybe get beat by BYU or WSU and then go on a winning streak which extends to the end of the season. This is how the Oregon program can create a new identity, one which is built on growth and resilience. I just don't want to see us be a program which has a few marque wins, but flounders along with no real solidity of purpose going forward. The Oregon Football Program is building towards the future, and needs to do a few things. One of the tenants of Lanning's mantra is to grow, and getting better through the season is critical. I want to see a stellar record on the second half of the season, with a bowl win. What I don't want to see is a big wins, some bad games and a team adrift at the end of the season. But maybe Lanning can put together a resilient giant killer of a team from the get go. I doubt it, and will take a couple losses early, and a new identity of winning from compounding knowledge and skills which makes a sustainable robust program we can all be proud of day in and day out.
