  1. That is the greatest logo and color scheme in sports. I am grateful that we have an HC who doesn't make excuses or pass blame. The guy stands in the gap and takes all the shots for his men.
  2. 2 hc's, 2 oc's and a third on his way. Can't really blame the guy. Oregon is loaded in the receiver room with some dudes coming in. Good luck young man.
  3. I will be reading your next one. I have learned some things from a lot of your articles. Don't see that stopping.
  4. My thoughts on it are different than yours. Thats all. Not a big deal. I like Lanning and think he is going to grow into one of the best head coaches in college football. I could be wrong. You put your thoughts out there by writing this article. OBDF is not an echo chamber. I have a different opinion and stated it. Seemed pretty benign when I wrote it.
  5. Lanning is HC. I am sure he was. Was he consulted about assistant coaching hires? Maybe, if so... Oregon will not reach the top IMO. Wouldn't be any different than Mario's micro management. A topic of discussion many time on OBDF.
  6. Other schools seem to be mesmerized by what Oregon has. They come after Ducks coaches only to find out that what Oregon has Is Oregon. Oregon is bigger than any of these guys. How long will it take for them to figure that out. The list of those that learned the hard way is getting long: Chip Kelly, Scott Frost, Willie Tagart, Mariø, plus a few more. I hope KD turns around ASU and we get to play them for conference titles. But I also think he jumped the gun and will get beat up a bit.
  7. Oregon didn't lose because of 2 plays. But cool, I was just giving my thoughts on the OC hire. Nothing more. Lanning will be better in year 2 and again in year 3. None of us make the right call all the time. Nix was the right call and Lanning getting to hire his own guys is the right call. Phil Knight has no business getting involved. Betcha Phil agrees.
  8. Kinda like running it between the tackles time after time. Auburn sent Ducks a gift basket and thank you card as a show of appreciation. This was Lannings first time steering the ship. I can recall articles here on OBDF, before season started, about curtailing expectations. How that changes when rubber meets the road. Oregon is not a bently. At best a Cadillac that needs tuned. Still very nice but not there yet.
  9. Lanning was hired as a first year head coach. Not a seasoned, make no mistakes, take me to the promise land, win me a Natty first year head coach. Season came down to a few bad plays. 9-3!!! Two of the loses by combined 7 points. Maybe it's more about who those loses were to, not that he took the two loses. Very easily could have been 11-1. What if the loses were to UCLA and Utah instead? Everything else being the same. Lanning had a great first year. Better than most. Including Saban and Smart. Had such a great first year his OC got poached immediately. If my boss crawls up my backside? I find a new boss. I celebrate what Lanning has done his first year. Great job coach.
  10. Great Defense requires speed. Something Oregon lacks. We have big and physical. Not that thats a bad thing but playing 4-2-5 required speed from edge, safety and LB's. Oregons front 7 is slow. Look at the nonexistent pass rush. Lanning will need more than a spring game and fall camp to get his guys. The recruits lanning has gotten and is going after are much faster. Building a defense is hard. Took Lannings last boss several years to build his.
  11. This decision needs to be Lannings alone. He is the HC and knows better than anyone what he needs to accomplish his vision. Lanning was hired to lead the football team. Mullens and Knight would be wise not to meddle. Clip Lanning and it won't end well. He will bounce first opportunity. I do like Brian Brohm. He has done an excellent job at Perdue. Prying him away from his brother would be a challenge. But hey, worth a try.
  12. Michigan football QB Cade McNamara enters NCAA transfer portal WWW.FREEP.COM Michigan football quarterback Cade McNamara has entered the transfer portal, the Free Press has confirmed.
  13. No, I don't. Lanning had his last OC hired within a week. The portal opens the 5th. Early signing comes right after. Seems likely Lanning will have his staff in place beforehand. Lanning has a ton of contacts and Oregon is a top job. Won't take long to fill the OC position. Lanning has probably already known for a week or two that he needs to fill the position. Oregon came within 7 points from going to the CFP. It wasn't the offense that gave up those seven. Oregon is right on the edge of being great. Everyone knows it. Not going to be hard to find the right guy.
  14. Lanning will have his OC in place by end of the week. I trust Lannings ability to hire. He has shown he has the ability to draw high level talent with both player and staff. Once a new OC is in place Bo will know what he wants to do pretty quickly. He is probably going into draft, but maybe Lannings next hire will change Bo's mind. Everything hinges on who Lanning hires. Portal opens on the 5th followed shortly by early signing. We will know inthe next 3 or 4 days.
  15. Dan Lanning is Oregons head coach. Lanning has shown nothing but to be a man of integrity and dignity. Lanning is the right guy. He went through some growing pains and took some bad loses his first year as a HC. Now some want his head on a platter? So many were screaming from the roof tops that Dan Lanning needs to be loyal to Oregon. Don't know if I am the only one, but I think Ducks should be loyal to DL. I hope we all pick up our Coach, dust him off and say thank you. It was an exciting year. Ducks were in the convo for a big part of it. So thanks coach, lets make a few tweaks and giv'em hell next year. Go Ducks!
  16. Brian Brohm - Football Coach PURDUESPORTS.COM Brian Brohm is in his sixth season as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He was hired Jan. It would be tough to peel him away from Perdue. His brother is the head coach.
  17. I was right about Nix, wrong about going 11-1. Nix got hurt so who knows. I was painfully wrong about Ducks defense. What a horrible performance this season.
  18. Western Kentucky University Athletics WKUSPORTS.COM Junior Adams enters his second season on The Hill as WKU's offensive coordinator and wide receiver coach...
  19. There is often a case made for promoting from within. Maintaining continuity can be valuable. Has Junior Adams earned a promotion? He has a strong resume. Co-OC at Oregon, OC at Western Kentucky. His stop at BSU and Eastern Washington were huge successes. I say give JA a shot here. He has earned it.
  20. Arizona State hires Oregon's Kenny Dillingham as head coach WWW.ESPN.COM Arizona State has hired Oregon offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham as the school's next coach. Dilly was a Duck for less than a year. He did a pretty good job calling plays. Beat the teams we were supposed to beat and was 1-2 against toss up games v. UCLA, OSU and UW. He is now a Sun Devil. He wasn't a Duck very long and I am not obligated to show him loyalty, nor do I owe him well wishes. He is going into a very difficult situation. I really don't care if he is successful or not. I Don't blame him for leaving. He is now irrelevant to me. Dilly is going to need a ton of luck, maybe someone out there in Duck nation will wish it for him.
  21. Pretty good chance that Dante Moore flips to Michigan. Oregon still has the fan favorite, 5* out of Az, Ty Thompson. This is Dan Lanning's Ducks, not Kenny Dillingham's. Ducks might lose out on a couple, but most will still be Ducks. Ducks lost a ton when Mariø bounced, but this staff salvaged the class. Ducks will be fine. We will lick out wounds and get better. The next few years will come with a lot of winning. Ducks will be in the mix for championships soon.
  22. Dilly can't refuse this offer. Nobody would in his position. I don't think it will go well for KD. He is probably better off long term staying where he is at a couple years. But how do you turn that down? 3 year contract is life changing money.
  23. I agree with Fly. DJ was put in a tough spot. I do know that if someone grabs my face, I most likely start swinging. Instinctively I would remove any perceived threat.
  24. Thats what I am saying. I am not so sure punting there changes anything. I would have probably gone for it too. I don't fault Lanning's decision.
  25. Don't really know what went on off the short video. Hard to cast judgment with so little information. There is a reason schools get fined when fans storm the field. Puts players in a tough spot. Risky. Add that opposing fans of Ducks love Duck loses more than their own teams wins. They are rabid in their Duck hatred. it becomes a threat with those fans on the field after a "spicey" loss. Wouldn't be surprised if the fan struck first.
