I'm still waiting to see the tax consequences of all this. Scholarship money isn't subject to federal tax for students in degree programs. I assume the o-lineman at TAMU can no longer be considered a dependent on his parents return. Is tax withheld? FICA? Do they get a W-2? A 1099? Wouldn't it make sense to have answers before we give a 19 year old a wad of cash?

Exactly. I used to be a much bigger fan of basketball than football. I cancelled the Pac-12 network years ago and now I seldom even watch the men's games. With only a couple exceptions every years starts with a bunch of strangers running around wearing Oregon uniforms, seldom functioning as a team. Maybe they cohere by years end (obviously not this year) but many will move on after the season. Rinse and repeat the following year. Basketball can be a thing of beauty. The waiver addresses concerns about potentially high numbers of college athletes transferring after all student-athletes were given the opportunity to compete immediately after transferring for the first time. It will apply at the end of the first term (students who depart on or after the earlier of the last day of the school's fall term or Dec. 15, 2021, which is the first day of the early National Letter of Intent signing period)... The waiver is effective immediately for the 2022-23 academic year only. The overall scholarship limit remains at 85 for the FBS and FCS.
