Oregon had third and fourth string LB's and DB's playing a lot of snaps. Wide open passing lanes let the QB get rid of the ball quickly, limiting KT's stats. Plus he was double and triple teamed.

If we expect him to adjust and adapt doesn't that include planning around the abilities of the players? He laid out his general philosophy of being aggressive and the importance of explosion plays. At this point he really doesn't even know the player names, let alone if they are capable of executing a particular game plan.

He also bounced between high schools in New York and California while spending a lot of time ineligible. He is young and a bit of maturity would certainly help. Nice save by Lanning and Johnson.

From his confronting "the letter" early on I thought he addressed several complaints lodged about the current state of Oregon football. Maybe it was just coach speak but his answers offered hope. Impressive considering the time zone difference and lack of sleep.

What I find ironic is during the Twitter Space conversation segment I heard there were four names that should be considered because they wouldn't use Oregon as a stepping stone. Three (Chip, Tedford, and Petersen) all left the Ducks for a promotion. Isn't that the very definition of stepping stone? I still can't figure out the purpose of the letter.

Oregon has one of the youngest rosters in the nation, with a majority of the recent highly rated classes still waiting to see the field on a regular basis. If any program could afford a down year in recruiting it is the Oregon Ducks. Not ideal but not the end of the world.

In football recruiting the definition of "offer" is fluid. A recruit may be offered a chance to try out for the team as a walk on, he may be a preferred walk on, assured a spot on the team but still paying his own way, there are non-committable offers i.e. we will give you a scholarship if..., finally there are actual offers of a spot on the team with all the benefits. There may be more. I imagine an potential offer to Justin Wilcox would include a lot of qualifications. One could be the need for a detailed plan how he would improve his recruiting results (they suck). If he declined he turned down the "offer".

That is also when we heard that his mother was experiencing health issues, apparently unconscious. That was probably weighing on his mind in addition to possible back channel inquiries from Miami.

Trivia, the 35th Oregon football coach is 35 years old. That must be some type of omen, right?

Question for the contract junkies. I believe the departures of both Mario and Moorhead were announced the same day. Moorhead's contract calls for him to get 70% of his salary if Cristobal leaves. The $700,000 question---is JM due the payment if he accepts another job before Mario officially leaves? Moorhead’s buyout should Oregon fire him without cause before Jan. 31, 2022 is 70 percent of his remaining salary or if Mario Cristobal were to leave, UO would owe Moorhead 70 percent of 12 months salary or the remainder of his contract term, whichever is less. There is an offset in either scenario.

No reason to doubt the timeline. I assume he informed Mullens and PK since they started working on a revamped contract. With a two to three week lead time Oregon had time to update the list of potential replacements plus time to work on the budget. Certainly inquiries have been made to the top potential targets so finding a replacement may be quicker than I expected. Interest that California native Dave Aranda reportedly hasn't signed the contract extension offered in late November. Grist for the rumor mill?

In recruiting, when a player chooses another school, many fans react with a "we didn't want him anyway" attitude. While I have no doubt Phil Knight may be rightfully miffed I question if the contract offer was actually pulled. If true why hasn't Mario accepted the Miami offer already? He doesn't gain anything by waiting until the morning.
