Who Ya Got for Coach of the Year?
At this juncture Cignetti is a no-brainer. That said, their schedule gets tougher with Michigan (still no pushover, ask Smitty) then a trip to the Shoe. They make the B1G Championship game it's a done deal win or lose IMHO.

Should Noah Whittington Switch to Receiver?
Agree on your observations, not so sure about your conclusion. There may be better ways of getting him the ball in space (wheel route, screens, etc.) than lining him up as a receiver. This one is a bit of head scratcher to me, but clearly he is not the back he was before the injury, despite DL/WS efforts to get him back on track. Really liked what I saw from Harris (granted in garbage time) against Purdue, personally I would like to see him in relief of JJ a little more. IMHO Limar doesn't have Harris' upside, although he is rock solid and a great special teams player.

Dan Lanning Has Arrived
I don't think you can overstate the importance of this win, which is clearly Lanning's signature win up to this point. That said, it's ONE win. Can we check a couple of these boxes before we get out the annointing oil? 1. Win against the fuskies!!! 2. Win in the Big House, the Shoe or Happy Valley. 3. Conference title. 4. Playoff appearance 5. NATTY!!!

Are There Some B1G Regrets?
Personally I'm loving the poetic justice in the LA teams becoming cellar dwellers in the B1G.

Too Good Not to have its Own Topic

NCAA Closes the "Oregon Loophole", I Think Not.
Urban Meyer admits to Dan Lanning’s late-game brilliance: ‘I’ve been playing checkers’ SATURDAYTRADITION.COM Urban Meyer had to admit there was some late-game genius on the part of Oregon's Dan Lanning in the win over Ohio State. “If that’s true (that Lanning did it on purpose), then for 38 years of my career, I’ve been playing checkers,” Meyer conceded. Love this!

NCAA Closes the "Oregon Loophole", I Think Not.
But of course it's still perfectly legal to purposely take a delay of game to give the punter more room, or to take an intentional safety to run out the clock. Not to mention all the times a beaten DB intentionally commits pass interference to save a TD. For better or for worse, intentional penalties are part of the game. It's kind of funny though, even in the few instances that this situation actually arises going forward, you have to concede the five yards and make damn sure you get a stop. It could easily have backfired on DL if Chip would have run the ball and gained even a couple of yards. It's a risky move.

Disappointed in National Coverage of Oregon vs. Ohio State
Cowherd is a notorious blue blood apologist. I was a little disappointed in Klatt though, Smith certainly did extend his arms and the play was called correctly IMHO. Of course the total whiff on the Bassa interception always seems to get glossed over with these guys. Listen to Josh Pate's last show for a more objective viewpoint. He has no dog in the fight whatsoever and he raved about the game and Autzen Stadium in particular. Also watch the BIG 10 Today show, they are very complimentary of Oregon despite the fact that the B1G newbys just beat one of their most storied blue bloods.

Oregon Ducks Football: Gabriel’s Biggest Strength
No doubt this is his team now. The whole team has taken a while to develop chemistry, but they certainly have found their stride. Great teams peak at the right time and granted there's still a tough road ahead, but this team was tasked with probably the biggest game in Autzen history and they met the call.

TV Viewership For tOSU vs Oregon was 10.2 Million
Ok sure, but the OSU-CSU game was the highest ever CW broadcast at a whopping 568,000!!! 😙

Oregon Football's Traeshon Holden Issues Apology for Spitting on Ohio State Player
Classless act followed by a somewhat insincere apology (not the content, the writing of). That said he's already missed most of the biggest game of his life so that's probably punishment enough and I'm guessing there's probably some internal consequences as well. Move on and for criminy sakes learn something from this.

You Know, I'm Just a Small-Time Schmuck...
I watched the full replay as well. I'm not saying those mistakes weren't made, but intentional bias is a pretty high bar in my book and officials deserve the benefit of the doubt on this one. If there really were a concerted effort by the officials to favor tOSU, they could have easily kept the flag in their pocket on that last offensive P.I. call. Agree to disagree, but yeah I too am damn glad it didn't affect the result.

Welcome to Autzen!!!
I've been a season ticket holder since 2002. I don't remember a game as loud as this one. Fright Night was wild, the OT win against the fuskies and the Civil War for the roses were all electric, but this one just felt different. Holy cow tOSU fans showed. Buying season tickets for just this game? That's some serious committment. I'd also note the ones around us were good fans, not obnoxious jerks like some some (Boise State for example). That said, when it came down to decibels it was like they weren't even there. Duck fans are on another level when it comes to crowd noise affecting the game.

You Know, I'm Just a Small-Time Schmuck...
The refs made and mistakes and could have called a better game. That could be said about nearly every college football game. Did they change the final outcome in this one? I agree with Josh Pate, there were bad calls/no-calls on both sides so it's "a wash". It sucks for tOSU that a penalty probably cost them the game at the very end, but guess what they committed it. Blackledge agreed, calling it "a freshman mistake". The most egregious officiating error was made not so much on getting the Bassa interception wrong, but in not reviewing it (I have no idea why DL didn't call a time-out to challenge this one). The correct call would have taken a Buckeye TD off the board and it's very likely Oregon would have scored with a short field, potentially a 14-point swing. If you're looking for bias and cospiracies you can always find them. I'm not saying they don't exist, but I don't think there was definitive bias for either side and fortunately the officiating didn't affect the final outcome of the game.

A Big Dollar Super League Coming?
Good article, albeit a bit long for us ADD types. Sankey has made it clear that he likes the way the SEC has worked the sytem; I just don't see him giving up the systemic advantage they have without a whole lot of motivation ($). Agree with Charles, nothing makes a bit of sense without the SEC moving to 9 conference games. That applies to the ACC as well, although not as much in the big picture of things. I guess the good thing about private equity is that there would more of a hierarchical structure rather than the Game of Thrones system we have now. But Sankey has already said, in essence, let's just take their ideas and do it ourselves then cut them out. This only works IMHO if they figure out a way to settle all future litigation and consolidate the broadcast rights into one negotiated deal, regardless of how the money is allocated (a tiered system is most likely going to happen). At least then the networks couldn't pit the conferences against each other.

Ducks Move to No. 3 in Both Polls
A bit of a different (better?) take from ESPN's power rankings: College Football Power Rankings: How did Week 6 chaos affect the top 25? - ESPN WWW.ESPN.COM Week 6 brought chaos. Two of the top five programs lost to unranked teams, and we added five new schools to our list.

Trojan Tears are Wonderful
So now it's the B1G that's holding them back?🤣

Laziest Reporting Ever
Come on Cal, you can't depend on the refs to bail you out of a 25-point comeback by Miami. All it would have taken was ONE stop or ONE more first down. Sure it looked like targeting to me (and the announcers) but you had way too many chances to put it away and you didn't. How the hell do you blow the coverage like that on Miami's last drive?

Oregon State Wins Epic Double-Overtime Victory....
I watched the end of that game on the CW. Worst high-def resolution feed I've ever seen, plus Ryan Leaf announcing. So glad we didn't get stuck there. Come on little brother, 2 OTs to beat Colorado State at home? Lame. BSU is going to eat your lunch.

Ducks SHOULD Jump in Polls?
We'll be top 5 for sure, what really matters is where we are a week from now!

Our Potential Future Schedules?
I couldn't agree more. The exception maybe being if the Civil War gets extended (I am probably in the minority here, but I hope it survives). We have no need for away games at teams such as Boise and Utah State. Annual B1G/SEC games would be great, but only if both play the same number of conference games. You've got to hand it to the SEC, they've played the game masterfully with their scheduling, playing a late season cupcake while the B1G and the Pac-12 teams were beating up on each other. Every year it seemed someone got knocked out of the playoff while the SEC teams had a defacto bye week. Assuming we're to remain at 9 conference games I'd like to see: 1. Warm-up FCS opponent at home 2. SEC showcase game either home/home or neutral (really neurtral, NOT Georgia in Atlanta!). 3. Civil War at home (screw the barkrats and their cheesy little stadium). Doubt the rodents would agree to this, but regardless we should never have more than one away game in the pre-season.

An Alliance Between the Big Ten and SEC?
Who could have seen this coming? Oh yeah, everybody.🤣

Oregon Still Undefeated, So Why Are Some Ducks Fans Unhappy?
Unhappy? No. Concerned? Yes.

Week 5 Ruminations
The biggest surprise for me was how badly Georgia's defense was shredded. They don't look like championship material at this point in the season. BTW DeBoer can coach. So sad the fuskies couldn't hang on to him. Texas to me still looks like the best team in the country. As good as Alabama was on Saturday, they gave up a massive lead and barely came away with the win. Boise State is probably better than I gave them credit for, but I still don't see them as a playoff team except for the fact that the G-5 is weak and one of them has to go. As for OBD, we aren't there yet. We need to put together four quarters of good football on both sides of the ball. Sure UCLA was 21-point win on the road, but they're just not very good and we should have easily covered on that one. Come on only 6 points in the second half? Playing down to the level of the competition IMHO just like we did in the Idaho and BSU games. It's too hard to turn it back on against someone good after letting our foot off the gas. There aren't too many gimmes left for us. We have to play more consistently if we expect to be a playoff team.

So Ferguson Had to Leave the Game, and it was NOT Targeting?
That was good to see. Plenty of times other offensive players have words when the QB gets a cheap shot, nice the QB has his guy's back as well. Sends a pretty good leadership message. While it may not have met the legal definition of targeting, I know a cheap shot when I see it.
