Four-Star Recruit Malakai Taufoou Has Fans Buzzing With Oregon NodThe Oregon Ducks continue to recruit hard on the West Coast for the class of 2027, with defensive back Malakai Taufoou giving a nod to the Ducks. Safety Recruit Malakai Taufoou Wears The Duck LogoOn Monday, three-star safety Malakai Taufoou ran drills wearing a white shirt with the secondary Oregon Ducks logo featuring The Duck mascot prominently on his chest. Given that the workout happened "fresh off a flight" according to his trainer that day, the shirt Taufoou wore is likely from his visit over the weekend to Eugene, Oregon, to visit coach Dan Lanning and crew. In his first visit in over a year with the program, the San Mateo, California native got to see spring practice back in session, along with the Oregon facilities, more than a year after his last visit in June of 2025. Taufoou got an official offer from Oregon on January 30 of this year. An NCAA committee next week is expected to explore a new age-based standard for athlete eligibility as part of a proposal that’s been in the works for weeks, but only recently has been socialized with high-level conference and school administrators. https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/article/ncaa-proposing-major-changes-to-eligibility-rules-including-age-limits-121509806.html- Oregon Ducks Practice Reports Updates, Etc. “2026” (4)
Dan Lanning Sees Tez Johnson Traits in Oregon Transfer ReceiverOregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning opened up on transfer wide receiver Iverson Hooks, saying he shows some of the same traits Oregon loved in former Ducks star Tez Johnson, pointing specifically to his speed, twitch, ability to get in and out of breaks and success on option routes from the slot. The comparison hits hard for Oregon fans, as Johnson was a beloved fan-favorite in Eugene before taking his talents to the NFL, where he currently plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Football: 2025 Developmental Player Film ReviewBreaking down the film during non-representative play of Oregon’s depth that may play a role in future seasons. The best athletic programs, in any sport, don’t manage their rosters one year at a time. While the transfer portal is an important tool in roster management in modern college football, many contributing starters spend time on the team developing as young players. In this article, I present my findings from reviewing the garbage time footage of Oregon’s offense this season that features developmental players. These players are usually in their first two years in the program and did not see regular playing time until the outcome of the game has already been decided. Readers should note that the sample of plays for each of these players is relatively small. Further, playcalling by both teams tends to be different to reflect the game effectively being over when these players are on the field. He never played the position he coaches. But Oregon football players call him a ‘genius’“He’s somebody that can dissect the defense very well,” Moore said of Ka’ai. “He’s a coach that ... the conversations you have with him is the best thing. Outside of football, he’s been through a lot in life.” Those conversations can be pointed, and perhaps veer into unexpected territory. Ka’ai went viral Tuesday for how he said he evaluates quarterback recruits. “I ask them a question like this all the time: ‘Hey, do you like chocolate ice cream or vanilla ice cream?’ And the minute the kid pauses, I don’t really want that kid,” Ka’ai said. “Because you need to have some type of conviction. ... So, whether you like chocolate or you like vanilla, I don’t really care. But if you sit there and say, ‘Oh, coach, I don’t know. Is it melted? Is it not? What’s the brand?’ Like, what is this guy gonna do on third down in front of 110,000? He’s probably gonna think about it more than he should.” They do say genius is never understood in its own time. https://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/2026/04/he-never-played-the-position-he-coaches-but-oregon-football-players-call-him-a-genius.html- Oregon Ducks Practice Reports Updates, Etc. “2026” (3)
