Very cool...our coaches have a history of either finding 3-Stars who turn into 4-Stars by December, or our coaches see raw-upside that develops in a few years. And...you always need loyal depth. Great to see them stay home.

Hey Butthead...Garlington

Decommitted from WSU? Why?

Oregon lands Washington edge Achilles Reyna for third commit of the day
Seattle (Wash.) Rainier Beach three-star edge Achilles Reyna has announced his commitment to the Oregon Ducks following an official visit. Reyna is also a basketball prospect who aims to be a two-sport athlete. He is the third recruit to pick the Ducks today.

Lots of Edge Rushers....throwing mud on the wall to find out who turns out best, and the rest transfers out. A crucial position...

Commit Impact: Achilles Reyna Gives Oregon Another High-Upside Edge Bet With Rare Physical Tools

Oregon is not taking Reyna because he is a finished product. The Ducks are taking him because the frame, movement skills, competitive background and developmental runway are all unusually interesting. There are players who have been playing football for most of their lives who do not look like this. Reyna has been on the field for a short time and already looks like someone who could become a very different player two or three years from now.

That is exactly the kind of evaluation Oregon can afford to make because of the way it has built the room around him.

Why this matters

This commitment matters because Oregon continues to recruit the edge position like a program that understands the future of Big Ten football.

The Ducks are not just collecting bodies. They are stacking different profiles. Rashad Streets gives Oregon a highly productive edge with a disruptive, backfield-heavy résumé. Cameron Pritchett brings another national-level edge profile into the class. Zane Rowe gives Oregon a high-end defensive line piece. Sam Ngata could also factor into the outside linebacker or edge structure depending on how his body develops.

Now Reyna enters as the rare physical upside bet.

Commit Impact: George VanSandt Gives Oregon a Local Tight End Piece With Real Developmental Value

VanSandt is not the flashiest addition in the class if the conversation starts and ends with national ranking. He is a three-star prospect, rated by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 66 tight end with an 86 score. But this is also the kind of recruitment that needs to be viewed through a wider lens than star count alone.

Oregon does not throw out in-state scholarship offers casually under Lanning. When the Ducks do move on a local prospect, there is usually a reason. In this case, the reason is pretty easy to understand. VanSandt gives Oregon a big-framed, physical, competitive tight end with enough size, toughness and developmental room to fit into what the Ducks are trying to build at the position.

Commit Impact: Oregon flips in-state receiver Malachi Garlington from Washington State

On the surface, this is Oregon beating Washington State for an in-state three-star receiver. That is not usually the kind of sentence that makes national recruiting folks stop what they are doing. But the more important part is that Oregon saw Garlington in person, evaluated him directly, moved quickly with an offer and then pushed hard enough to change the trajectory of his recruitment almost immediately.

That says something.

It says Oregon did not offer simply because he was a local prospect. It says the Ducks saw something they liked enough to act on in real time. And it says Garlington gave them enough confidence over the course of a camp setting and official visit to become the first receiver commitment in Oregon’s 2027 class.

Why it matters

Oregon is still very much involved with bigger national names at wide receiver in the 2027 class. That part has not changed. The Ducks are still recruiting at a national level, and the presence of Garlington in the class does not suddenly mean they are done pursuing some of the higher-profile receiver targets on the board.

But this commitment does matter because it gives Oregon a local receiver with legitimate developmental upside, size and playmaking traits.

Oregon Ducks jump in recruiting rankings after trio of commitments

The Ducks picked up a trio of commitments to open the week, flipping 3-star WR Malachi Garlington from the Washington State Cougars, and also landing 3-star TE George VanSandt and 3-star EDGE Achilles Reyna. Though none of the players is rated as a blue-chip, they are all local Northwest prospects who will help be the backbone of this class.

Before the additions, Oregon had the No. 16 class in the 2027 cycle, but with these three pickups, they've jumped back into the top 10, now sitting at No. 8, just behind the Clemson Tigers and Virginia Tech Hokies.

ewe dub seems a bit butt-hurt and chats downplay the pickups

Reyna:

I like his potential but I haven't seen the Ducks do very well developing raw potential.

He'll get a nice bump in the ratings now that he's committed to Oregon. Yeah, they will rate him a top5 edge with five stars, lol

In this day and age there's no such thing. No way this kid lasts more than one season at Oregon. He'll be forced out and in the transfer portal after his true frosh season.

I feel for the kid ... the Ducks don't know how to actually develop and maximize talent. They're great at buying elite athletes, but it's been a while since they consistently developed guys.

Butt-Hurt by the Huskies is precisely correct; the number of players that have developed and improved under the Lanning staff is too long a list in terms of contributing as a college player, or becoming an NFL player. Of course they point to the transfer outs as examples, without addressing the reality of recruiting en-mass to a position and the best will play, and the those who are No. 4 and No. 5 transfer out. The development happened with those who are playing...
