June 15Jun 15 Moderator No. All of these players are young, but nobody can say that they are not aware that sports gambling on any sport that the NCAA sponsors is forbidden. NIL money doesn’t corrupt any of these young athletes, it just gives us a clearer picture of their morality. Most of the newsworthy stories about NIL are about the huge contracts awarded, and perhaps the misguided use of those monies. Given time, many that had an opportunity to invest for their future, will be broke because of poor financial decisions.

There is no instant fix and just saying something is illegal doesn't mean people won't do it. It will be a continued process of education and monitoring to ensure this doesn't become a massive problem. I have high school students in my classes that are using these sports betting apps on a regular basis. If they are doing it underaged then college athletes are doing it for sure because of ease of access and general sports culture. Thanks for reading!

Indiana was not despised for spending the cash to win a title. The NCAA is currently constrained from benching Sorsby. The B12 is not. The B12 has filed an action for declaratory relief in Texas and is odds-on to win the argument and not allow Sorsby to play in the B12.https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/49072316/big-12-files-suit-vs-texas-tech-texas-ag-brendan-sorsby

I honestly don't know what to do with his case. But there are so many more cases that just haven't been exposed yet and that's what I'm concerned about.
June 15Jun 15 Administrator No. GREAT article David, as you brought up a number of crucial points.Eighteen year olds with a boatload of NIL money…”what could possibly go wrong?” Mr. OBD

It obviously doesn’t stop everyone, but it stops most.I suppose that If an employment contract stated that a speeding offense was grounds for termination, less people would speed. Doesn’t stop everyone, but certainly “slows them down”. The penalty is the deterrent. If the penalty is not enforced then what?
