  2. The only team IU has played with a pulse is Chips NU. They got exposed in that game. IU fan was a little salty after Chip almost beat them.
  3. The B1G is a puzzle this year.
  4. I don't think this is a Hampton issue. I am barely scratching the surface. Trust me, this has been a problem for Lanning's entire tenure. For instance, the very first play of the Rose Bowl Ohio State introduced a play that directly exploited Lupoi's strategy. It was deliberate. It took advantage of tendencies. It took advantage of natural coverage conflicts inherent in Lanning and Lupoi's scheme. It was only the beginning because Chip correctly diagnosed everything OBD would do in most situations. In other words, this is a fundamental issue teams have been drawing up to take advantage of what Oregon presented "naturally".
  5. Nebraska up 10-3. N Missed a fg going into the half. Dominating the stat sheet. Nebraska is 8-11 on 3rd down. Played a great first half. IU ball to start the 2nd half.
  6. Yep - the Nebraska game will be a big challenge. Got to get past UCLA first. I hope our health is better than rumored today.
  7. I would agree if Cover 1 didn't leave a an area of coverage that is akin to covering all of North America given the way our Safeties cover. The issue is the CBs have to cover the entire field, and that was a weakness OBD exposed themselves in the Spring Game this year. That group is elite, but nobody can cover each type of deep route when the area they have to cover to their right and left. I agree with mixing coverages. That lowers predictability. That has been a problem for years frankly.
  8. I’m shocked, but by no means unhappy, that Coach Fisch’s UW team is this bad in his 3rd season.
  9. That's what we're here for. Running the ball is UCLA's strength. The Bruins really don't have much team speed, and they have struggled early against all four of the opponents they faced. It is why I am not concerned about this game. I wanted to cover some fundamental issues in the area that is killing us the most. There are flaws defending the run, just not as much a concern this week because I don't believe UCLA has the kind of talent to threaten OBD in this game. I also believe bringing another defender in the box completely solves most of the issues defending both types of attack. It also presents more problems with pass coverage given the issues I discussed above.
  10. Today

  11. Bad snap kills a Neb drive before it gets started. Nebraska looks like the better team so far.
  12. 10-3 Neb right now. Husker got a stop and has the ball early 2nd. Good game so far. Crowd is ridiculous. Oregon has this Nebraska team next week. They are playing great early in this game
  13. Sad to say, but beginning to look like the new civil war will be Ewedub and Beavis when Washington rejoins the pac12.
  14. Do you have a link. I haven't found anything about a flu bug going around the Oregon football team. I don't think this is true.
  15. UW -3 net yards rushing on the night might be my favorite part. I mean, other than the final score, of course.
  16. Ducks win 42-30 2 TO’s 3 Sacks 268 passing yards
  17. Stay with it Mike. You did good. Looking forward to more and watching you grow over the next few months.
  18. It's that time of year. My wife and I made sure to get our flu/covid vaccines because schools are petri dishes every Fall.
  19. Thank you Mike for the analysis. That begs probably the most important question about the defense: is Chris Hampton really any good at being a DC or even the safeties coach?
  20. With Oregon’s excellent cover corners and defensive lineman, it seems like our defense should play man-to-man with one high safety, the overwhelming majority of snaps. Put more players in the box and zone blitz and/or run stunts and twists up front to get to the QB quicker on passing downs. Of course, you have to mix coverages up once in awhile. Most of the passing yards USC gained seemed to be against zone coverage, which Oregon is not executing very well, or well designed plays (e.g., the long passing TD that matched Oregon’s linebacker against one of USC’s best receivers). There are few teams in college football, IMHO, who can consistently beat our CBs. Ohio State being the obvious choice on our remaining schedule.
  21. Bugs are going around. I've had long lists of absences at school for the better part of a month now due to illness. Abnormally long lists. Stuff is going around.

  23. Great post Mike and highly informative. In general, it feels like the Ducks over complicate their defensive schemes that lead to eventual breakdown. It's like a high school basketball coach running plays that would work great if he had NBA all stars running them. I prefer more intuitive strategies that allow players to rely and react with instincts and letting 4/5 star players do 4/5 star things. It feels like the complexity of the defense deducts a star from players skill level as they have to stop and think what to do instead of just doing it. When it comes to football Xs and Os, I'm no expert. But with basketball I'm closer and in that sport I can tell you that it's better to have a few basic principles that the team is on the same page with than an encyclopedia thick playbook that players get lost in in real time. It seems like the Ducks should have the DBs to stick with receivers and line backers to always be around the ball and that alone should put them in the top twenty in most defensive statistics. We'll see how this year plays out but at some point, I hope Lanning goes back to the drawing board and dials up a simpler defensive scheme that just lets the talent do what they can do especially in this new one and done portal era.
  24. Thanks, Mike. I really appreciate you guys have a much better understanding of the details of this game than I do, and who are willing to share it. I think you did a great job here and I certainly learned a lot from it.
  25. Oregon Football’s Record-Breaking Indoor Facility Is Already Turning HeadsThe record-breaking size of Oregon's new indoor football facility is becoming more of a reality as the Ducks host the undefeated UCLA Bruins in Autzen Stadium.
