The Very Silver Lining to Dante's Injury
I think 2 yrs at Nebraska and what we ve seen here is enough to write Railoa off for the future!

The Very Silver Lining to Dante's Injury
Well my eyes tell me they sure are NOT good at this point but I am not expert enough to say exactly why. Unfortunately, good experienced OLs are few and far between in the portal so somebody better coach em up!

Offense or Scoring?
A couple numbers from Wisconsin's 24-7 win over USC. Total offense: 200 - Wisconsin - yes really, 200 for the game 241 - USC - included minus 17 rushing (had 120 vs Oregon) Wisc had 3 TD drives of 75, 75, and 59, but lost enough other yds to end up with 200 for the game.

Confessions of a Jock Sniffer: I Sold Everyone on a Five-Year Title Plan Lanning Never Made
Luli out hurts some today but he has had a pretty slow start returning from injury this year. Ferguson had like 42 promising snaps, 12 as a starter (before going out). Stewart wouldn't be playing right now even if he was healthy I imagine. McClellen is a bumber but injuries do happen; and, Raiola isn't exactly your normal "backup QB". Former 5 star with like 24 career starts in the P2 with 17 more career completions than Dante (as well as getting an estimated $1.5-$2.0 million this year to be more than a regular back-up). Hampton has been a nice surprise so far but 26 receiving yards per game at 8.9 ypc shouldn't be an insurmountable obstacle to running your offense. Lott has 4 catches in 2 career games. This was against and Illinois team that had been giving up 28 points per game (105 out of 138) and 99th in defensive FEI. They were so bad on defense they fired their DC (Bobby Hauck) two games ago.

Offense or Scoring?
Oregon Total Offense, result 497 - W – 34-27 vs Boise St 281 - L – 31-39 at Okie State 740 - W – 84-0 vs PSU 504 - W – 41-27 at USC 272 - L – 15-17 vs UCLA 242 - W – 17-14 vs Nebraska 426 - L – 10-21 at Illinois (51 yds on the last half-minute drive) The 42 points in 3 consecutive games is the lowest since 31 vs 3 consecutive in 2017: WSU, Stanford, UCLA. (Burmeister at QB)

Coach Meh'
Who would have thought that hiring one of the worst OC's in recent memory would end up being one of the worst OC hires in recent memory? Who could have guessed that hiring a tight end with no QB experience would lead to having no QB experience to teach the QBs? Dan needs to take control of this five alarm dumpster fire ASAP. It doesn't matter how bad the offense looks with another no experience coach calling the shots because they are already at rock bottom now. This year's offense/ team is beyond salvation. What's important is that he mans up and takes control before he loses the fanbase, the players and the donors. This is way bigger than having a let down year. This year was lost due to last years reckless coaching decisions. You could see it in the game one struggles with Boise St and it's only gotten worse since.

Things won't change around significantly, but I don't see how things could get worse, we can't do anything, you might as well make a statement now instead of waiting around for the inevitable. He's been around the program for a while, it's not like he's going to get better, it's time for someone to face the music, it's ultimately going to have to be Mehringer since he's the biggest change this season. It's not solely his fault, the QB coach is completely over his head, and Terry obviously can't develop his own talent, but it ultimately falls on Mehringer to put players in the best place to succeed and that's not happening in any way.

Haven’t watched the game yet. Sounds like I better not. Lanning has put himself in a really tough situation. If we thought our current OC lacks experience, we have even less behind him. I’m not sure we can just cut him loose based on our current staff. Is there an offensive Yoda out there that can salvage this heap mid season? This is really, really bad and you can see that Lanning has deep regrets regarding his coaching staff and some players. He’s not even shocked, now.

Our Transition to the Dark Side is Complete.
Thanks Mike. We got Georgia next week, and like that kid said in Angels in The Outfield. "It could happen". There's a lot of tribalism between the SEC and B1G. I don't subscribe to it. I like Florida, and I really don't care if the rest of the conference beats each up and never wins another playoff game. South Carolina did that to Tennessee today. Auburn went back to being Auburn after beating Georgia, and Alabama still can't stop a sneeze. Parity is here. There is no 2019 LSU, 2001 Miami, or 1995 Nebraska. I really hope Oregon gets to hoist that first ever title up very soon. Dan Lanning is a great guy, but he needs to be more cold when it comes to hiring coordinators. It's great to give guys a shot, but not at a place with championship goals, and unlimited resources. Chip Kelly should've been the first call after losing Stein. He might have already been at Northwestern, but you pull a Miami and buy him out of that contract.

The inevitable one. I know it sucks today, but you guys are going to win a title in the next five years imo. Especially with the 24 team playoff coming.

The Very Silver Lining to Dante's Injury
I don't know. Until the offensive coaches are replaced we don't know what anybody's upside is on this team. Moore was regressing into a shell before he was injured. Thomas is worse. Smith isn't any better than either of those. How do we know Raila couldn't be good with better OC and QB coaches? Same is true for the OL. How do we know any of them are truly bad?

With all due respect, you're digging to make excuses. We lost to a 3-star QB making his first career start backed up by a roster made of 90% 3-stars. We got an butt load of blue chips, a 5-star backup QB, and eight blue chip OL guys on the roster. The Frosh WR's Lott and Hampton who where are a 5 and 4 star - let's not credit the coaching for that. We are doing less with more talent than anyone in the country and injuries are not an excuse for losing to a team we have 90% more talant than.

OC change is now officially on the table. I would also argue for changes at QB coach and possibly OL coach ASAP. https://duckswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/ducks/football/2026/10/24/oregon-football-dan-lanning-speaks-oc-change/92422657007/

As I said earlier the promotion of Hampton was a good a call as Meringer was bad. The position coaches are doing well. Think about the true freshman doing well at wide receiver. That's great coaching. The freshman running back. Great coaching. Terry is getting drug through the mud. I doubt not taking transfer linemen was his choice. The line is a grown man's position. Not young stud position. And right now four of the five top receivers are out. Starting quarterback out. Two starting linemen out. I think anyone would have a hard time with that. And the OC Isn't very good. Not sure Dilly or Stein would be killing it with this situation. But we would definitely score more than 15,17 and 10 points

The Very Silver Lining to Dante's Injury
I sure hope that Dante "You're Lovin' Me Now" Moore is healthy enough to return next Saturday.

Thankfully we can just NIL good talent. Now can we identify talent that is hungry and coachable? Hmmm

Confessions of a Jock Sniffer: I Sold Everyone on a Five-Year Title Plan Lanning Never Made
Have not mentioned it to try to remain positive; but, anyone else catching similar vibes to the end of the Helfrich Era? • Two bad DC hires that led to the complete collapse on one side of the ball, this time on offense rather than defense. • QB injuries and now off the field troubles, all which get magnified once losses pile up. Helfrich could not land a top high school QB recruit (that could play), VA saved the day one season; but, as we saw, the product collapsed as he turned to Prokop and then a freshman (who was good but the offense was no longer to cover for the imploding D). • Helfrich certainly had his share of bad apples. Arguably more than his share; but, as long as the team kept winning, they mostly were tolerated. Once the losses came, they weren't. Lanning has not had that; but, the recent incident landing right after the team overcelebrates a home win over what is probably just an ok team during a season already teetering, doesn't look great. I expect the "culture" to hold together; but, if the season turns into a battle to get to 0.500 after expectations, we have seen things head South before. I try to generally not get into all the firing coaches stuff; but, it has taken Oregon 33 years (and the perhaps once-in-a-program's-lifetime Nike benefit) to get here. Staying in this college football tier might not survive allowing a 2-3 year coaching death spiral (which was a major reasoning behind not giving Helfrich one more year). Helfich had been to the NC and then possibly an Eastern Washington player cheap shot away from following it up with 11-1 (I would say with a healthy VA 2/3 of Michigan State, Utah, and WSU were very winnable). The internal OC/DC promotions are the kinds that are ok as long as they work. There were plenty of question about their wisdom though. Just like Helfrich those hires are all on DL. As is having a bunch of 30-somethings being your staff. What did coach Terry have before Oregon? No years of being an assistant OL coach (beyond a GA); and, one year as an OL head coach at Hawaii (even the one year with the Minnesota Vikings was with the DL). That's on DL. No way to really be sure how Terry would be at developing an OL room with 15 young guys if he has never done it. As discussed elsewhere, lots of questions about how the estimated $7-$8 million in NIL money was spent. After 4 years of A or A- grades in the portal, at this point I'm not sure if the 2026 group even gets a C-? No significant help to what was a very inexperienced OL room with questions (including Luli and Wilson recovering from significant injuries). A slot WR who was behind two true FR, a DL who while not a whiff exactly, has been behind a couple guys already in the program. The Perich move made sense because, Theineman worked; but, that's making a lot of assumptions. Purdue fans were much more upset losing their guy than Minnesota fans (they were excited with his first year but not as much his second and felt for the most part guys already in their program could play at a similar level for a fraction of the NIL Minnesota attempted to hang onto him with). Finally, wasn't that familiar with Raiola but after watching him, am not getting it. Was this, much like Koi, "Well, Moore worked out so let's just do it again"? The estimated $1.5 to $2.0 million he got for this season could have brought in a starting portal OT like Lance Heard or OG like Tegra Tshabola who had a combined 53 P2 conference starts. Really now comes across as a lot of young coaching hubris. The deal with having such a young staff, and guys like Terry, Wadood, Araghi, Ka'ai (and even Samples and Douglas, who I like a bit more based on a limited sample) must probably at least in part to be young, relatable, and fun to recruits. With NIL and the portal, that just may be less valuable than ever. 7-5 or 6-6 this year and any kind of slow start in 2027 (behind losing like 11 starters and possibly Dante plus whatever else happens in the portal), could end up looking pretty Helfich-esque. I could be talked down off the ledge though 🤷♂️

Yes. Other than that he took the money, Id hope he not return. Too much career risk vs lost season, line that cant guard him and a coordinator who does not know how.

Oregon - Illinois Post-Game Reports, Interviews, Etc.
Autzen Zoo chimes in. The 5 biggest losers from Oregon's embarrassing season ending loss to Illinois And five players that should see more playing time. Smith Jr., the Jett, McNutt, Brandon Smith and Inheanacho. Akili Smith Jr. and the 4 Oregon Ducks have to play moving forward amid lost season

The Very Silver Lining to Dante's Injury
Per Autzen Zoo, we now know what needs to be done that Dante may have hidden. Dante Moore's injury has done Oregon one massive favor for the future

Nice Work
As far as I know.. we have one on the roster who could not possibly have been any more damaging worst case scenario that the present mess!!!
