  2. "Maybe, at his previous stops, Johnson did not have so many talented players at the skill positions." This ^^ His best OC job was when he had running back Kenneth Walker III at Michigan St. Oregon's stacked with RB's and WR's so that has to make his job easier.
  3. I would not rank a 4 loss Alabama over a one loss Wake because that loss to Miami would be avenged. And Wake happens to be a good team. I have seen them twice, and they are solid, don't hurt themselves and can even hurt Alabama. They could even beat Alabama frankly (and yes, I have watched Bama, whom I don't think will lose again until the CCG). Wake is actually that good. Their QB is Tua esque, and he makes very good decisions.
  4. And fortunately, even the 3 loss SEC teams will face a challenge getting in the 24T playoff, because odds are half or more of the 2 loss teams will have 3 losses against teams in other conferences. This year, the Big 12 would probably get 4, and if Oklahoma State hadn't lost another. I like how the SEC teams are whining, and they have 10 in the AP Top 25. It's disgusting.
  5. I looked at the AP poll and tried to make my own rankings, but couldn't due to not enough sample size. I need to wait until the regular season ends to get some competition for some of those teams. It is hard to rank the big12, or ACC due to who they play. For my money, I would rank a 4 loss Alabama ahead of a 1 loss Wake Forest. And I would rank a 4 loss Oregon over a 1 loss New Mexico. The difference is quality of players, regardless of record. Who would win in the post season? I keep thinking back to that one year when Hawaii was soooooo good and then got totally destroyed by Georgia in that bowl game. After that game, no one took any of the teams from the "minor leagues" seriously ever again. Boise St had its moments, but that was about it for the "over achievers". Oh and of course, the Beavs had a few games that shocked the world, but they were in a power conference at the time. It is good they are going to 24. Because whoever gets left out at number 25 most likely doesn't have a chance to even stay within 2 or 3 scores of a top 5 team. So that argument become irrelevant.
  6. David, great article and comments. Johnson may not have had previous success, but he learned what not to do. His experience allowed him to adjust in real time. Maybe, at his previous stops, Johnson did not have so many talented players at the skill positions. Consistency and practice reps paid off in the O line play againsy NW. You dont dominate the last 34 minutes of the game without the line executing st a solid level. Especially with a back up QB and your number 3 and 4 running backs. More of the same is needed each game. Jay Johnson should keep running a variety of plays that work. With the goal to keep the Buckeye defense or any future defense off balance. Work to push the ball down field vertically, not horizontaly. Hats off to the half time adjustments on both sides of the ball. NW had no answers in the 2nd half. They had no answers! While its a long shot, the Ducks can pull the upset against tOSU if they keep it close until the 4th quarter. The defense needs to play a complete, 4-quarter game and keep the Buckeyes under 24 points. The offense needs to minimize mistakes, stay away from 3rd and long and play to win. Start fast and don't dig sn early hole. This teams has nothing to lose. Go Ducks.
  7. Today

  8. Wow. That was pretty solid last night. Nice passing and teamwork. The roster is mostly made up super athletic wings, which will be fun to watch. I watched some of UCLA, Illinois, and Michigan State last night and Oregon still has a long way to go to be competitive with the top half of the BIG. However, great to see progress and at least they should be fun to watch.
  9. It is hard to draw conclusions without any baseline for how good Montana currently is. But, I thought the ball movement was better than any Ducks game I watched last season. Resulted in balanced scoring. But, just the artistry of guys looking to make a pass, to find an open man, to be aggressive in rebounding was way better than what I saw last season. Hope they can sustain it. Playing 3 exhibitions (1-2) had to have helped the coaching staff, and the players to find some sense of cohesion and understand each player's strengths? Ducks trailed 4-12, led 25-14, led 53-38, tied 57-57 (gulp at 10:41), then won 87-69.

  11. On3 Predicts the PO Committee's Top-25 - Oregon is 3-1 vs. this predicted Top-25 - Six B1G teams are in this Top-25 - No. 5 UCLA 8-0, No. 6 Indiana 8-1, No. 10 Ohio State 6-2, No. 15 USC 7-2, No. 22 Iowa 6-2, and No. 25 Northwestern 6-2. 10 SEC teams in the Top 25, including 3-loss No. 20 South Carolina and 3-loss No. 21 Florida. On3's prediction shows the PO committee buying Greg Sankey's SEC schedule strength argument. Greg certainly has a point after the SEC went 10-2 against P4 opponents out of conference. But ten of the 16 SEC teams ranked? Greg's SOS point is also strengthened by the Preseason AP Poll Top-25 Oregon, Michigan, Penn State, and Washington not in the Week 9-10 AP Top-25. 14. Ok. What a difference a couple weeks make. Know it was just Montana St. AND the first game of the season but; Whatever Stubblefield is selling the playa's are buying. Best ball movement and rebounding I have seen from a Duck BB team in over a year. Some of the no looks and "alleyoopish" passes were something you see from teams ...mid season. FIVE! FIVE! players in double digits. If this team can just meet consistently this level of play then maybe, just maybe, this season won't be such a "train wreck" I was anticipating it to be days after Altman's retirement and the the turnover-fest up at Seattle U. Here's hoping that Oregon 🦆🏀🪨's! Go Quackers!
  15. I feel confident that if the Ducks score more points that tOSU they will win.
  16. Against Ohio State? Yeah I'm not sure. The Ohio State offense has problems and so does their defense. I have a feeling this might turn into a defensive slugfest and one that I think every point will matter. When it comes to the Oregon offense it doesn't need to be fancy it just needs to be executed and minimize the mistakes. That's not to say the Ducks shouldn't take some shots down the field (they kinda need to) but it will be about building a sequence of plays that makes sense. Maybe that take that deep shot on first down and if it's incomplete don't follow second and third down with bad screen play. This was a Mehringer problem (granted I only have one game's worth of observations on Jay Johnson) where Mehringer would have a bad call and continue to follow it up with increasingly desperate calls. That can't be the case against Ohio State even in their weakened state. There will be three-and-outs there will be stalled out drives. It will be about leaning into what works and executing it.
  17. "The defense didn't feel defeated by an inept offense." I think this sums up the second half of the Illinois game. Nearly an entire half of defensive dominance was negated by one bad defensive play. The offense could never separate, then couldn't stay even and finally couldn't catch up. You felt the vibe of the D ebb one series after another as the offense became a parody of ineptitude.
  18. Thank you, David. Among many of your fine articles, this was one of the best. Now, will the Ducks get a B1G road win?
  19. Oregon head football coach Dan Lanning meets with reporters Monday evening to review the Ducks' 34-26 victory over Northwestern and preview this weekend's Big Ten showdown against No. 11 Ohio State in Columbus. Lanning discusses Oregon's offensive turnaround under its new play-calling structure, Dylan Raiola's strong performance against Northwestern, and the importance of returning to the Ducks' aggressive offensive identity after struggling against UCLA and Illinois. The Oregon head coach also addresses the challenge of defending Ohio State star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, the Buckeyes' defensive front, and what he expects from Ohio State's new starting quarterback. Other topics include injury updates on Jeremiah McClellan and Jordan, D'Antre Robinson's development, Oregon's improved discipline, and Lanning's message that he wants players to be "assassins, not superheroes" by consistently executing their assignments. Topics discussed: Oregon's 34-26 win over Northwestern Dylan Raiola's performance and consistency Oregon's new offensive play-calling operation Returning to an aggressive offensive identity Preparing for Ohio State in Columbus Defending Jeremiah Smith Ohio State's quarterback and defensive front Injury updates and player development Lanning's "assassins, not superheroes" message

  26. To give an honest assessment, i must take my heart and love for the Ducks out of my thoughts and remove my uber optimistic, green and yellow biased lens glasses. I never fell for the off-season super hype about OBD's. How could the so called experts ignore some of the obvious concerns facing this 2026 Ducks team. That's the fans job! New, inexperienced OC and DC. And no depth on the staff at the skill positions to teach. Replacing 3 Oline players. If DL didnt feel this was critical he would not have pushed so hard for Seaton and a number of 5☆ recruits for the line. Seaton would have been a hugh addition. The off season was a miss for the Oline. We all saw the weakness in Dante's game. Dante and those around him recognized it and Dante returned so he could improve. There was no guarantee he would improve. I was excited that DL landed DR. But he was and is not a finished product. We are seeing that play out. And under DL, the Ducks struggled in the biggest games. It was exciting that DL got us to those games. Could he get OBD's over that hurdle.. Those concerns were real and some are still concerns. My 2026 prediction was for 10-2. That was my ceiling and my bottom for this years squad. The Ducks have yet to play a full 4 quarter game. If they do, then 9-3 is possible. 8-4 or 7-5 are in play if they don't. GO DUCKS!
