Coach Meh'
This is an offense that I can attribute to Dick Read. Maybe worse.

Coach Meh'
Absolutely will lose equity if he doesn't make a change now, even if interim.

The Train Came Off the Tracks
The only college coaches I’d take over Lanning would be Nick Saban (who isn’t coming out of retirement to coach in the cold, rainy PNE), Urban Meyer and Chris Peterson. I believe any of those coaches would be an upgrade, at least in the short term, in terms of coaching chops and would be able to assemble a top of the line coaching staff. Not saying this will happen but if Phil Knight had a commitment from one of them…

Sometimes Symbolism Is Important
He should have brought in a "consultant" after the first game.

How many Nike shoes is that??? But seriously, he knows how to use the portal with a checkbook. He doesn't recruit his whole team.

Sometimes Symbolism Is Important
Would firing Mehringer now make any difference for the rest of the season? Probably not, the OL is awful and Raiola is sadly a bust. In fact, the results could get worse without an OC. But. The symbolism of an immediate firing would show fans, boosters, staff, and players that Lanning is serious about accountability. That if you can't measure up to the performance standards Lanning has ostensibly set for the program, you're out. Discipline and dismissals in any organization are more a message to those who are staying on than to those who are let go. I'm generally not a believer in the knee-jerk, after-game-anger move, but in this case I think there's nothing left to lose, and even symbolism would be better than standing pat and waiting. Just do it.

Cignetti? Chuckle. His current salary is $13.2 million and a contract thru 2033. He is a top 3 salary with Smart and Kiffin.

The Train Came Off the Tracks
By coaching change, I meant it could be any of them in the program, including DL. Most likely, we will see a new OC by this winter. And there could be several other new assistants as well. But if I had to give you a short list right now, it would start with Cignetti. I thought he would fold by now, but he keeps it going.

The Train Came Off the Tracks
Maybe next week Chip will get nostalgic and call a few good offensive plays for the Ducks.
-
Coach Meh'
Should be called Ducks vs Themselves at this point.
-
The Train Came Off the Tracks
So who is on your short list for HC? I don't agree that Lanning should be fired. I reserve the right to change my mind. See what he does with Meh' over the next couple days.

Bryce Underwood, An Oregon Transfer Target
Ty Thompson two point oh.

Coach Meh'
It feels like the longer DL keeps Meh on board, the more program equity he is squandering away. Is that really an equation he can live with? When does loyalty to the program trump loyalty to a professional friendship? OBD season has reached a point where not acting decisively could be the worst possible step forward.

The Train Came Off the Tracks
This defense is good, but blown assignments are killing it. The offense is clueless. They run a few good plays that work and then try plays that have no chance. By far the worst part of it all is seeing the problems in week 1, and then watching progress happen so slowly. And when there is progress, it is only temporary. Then it reverts back. There has to be some kind of coaching change. Change the plays. Change how you prepare in practice. Change what kind of players you are recruiting. Or change the coaches themselves. The Oregon football program should not be falling this deep into a pit that they are playing even with mediocre teams all season. The season is over the halfway point, so if there was a tweak or a quick fix, it would have happened by now. Maybe Dan Lanning has reached his high point and other coaches have figured it out and they are doing things that Oregon just can't match. It sure feels like it. I think Oregon will bounce back in time. They have been a force for a quarter century. That counts for something. I am predicting that we will see a coaching change in the not too distant future. The best players are coming here as much as anywhere else. This is kind of like when Helfrich was struggling so badly. Maybe hitting rock bottom will force a change for the better?

Lanning Post-Game
If I were Lanning I would obfuscate on Coach Meh because if I release him then I'm exposed. Also a running QB is a must to have on the roster.

Lanning Post-Game
The Oregonian’s Ryan Clarke: Lanning on whether Oregon will make a change at OC: “I think all things are on the table for us to make sure that we're the best version of ourselves, and we're currently not that. That's very clear.” ...on the three freshmen that were late scratches this week — Iheanacho, Hampton and Lott — Lanning said: “I’m really just gonna focus on the guys who were here on the trip today.”

Coach Meh'
If he doesn't return then the rest of the games will ALL be unwatchable.

I think that is the only play Dan has at the moment.

Nice Work
1) Good for Dante. No reason to bring him back a risk his career. 2) Maybe the worst OC in college football. Such a wasted year and waste of talent. No emotion, no fight. 3) Bring on Akili; why not.

Give Samples a try at OC for rest of the year.
