Chiles has now had games just like this againt IU's D for the past three years for two different teams. Northwestern's Braun has been great the short time he has been there. NW will upset a big name team this year. I told IU grads in Chicago (friends) that it would be a one score game. They laughed but as of this morning have not answered my texts or calls to them. On a side note to Log ... if you are going to be in the BIG at least get it right. "Indy" has NOTHING to do with Indiana Hoosiers. Indiana is either IU or Indiana University. "Indy" goes with the Indy 500 and Indianapolis. I guess I could call it Oregon University instead of the University of Oregon. 😂

Northwestern started slow in the first half, at one point Indiana had 200 yards vs 20 yards offense for Northwestern. If not for the slow start, due to NW O-line failing and bad throws by Chiles, NW would have won.

Northwestern put up a heck of an effort. Saturday, Nebraska plays Michigan State in East Lansing.

Heck of a game! 29-23 Indiana. But it was Northwestern 16-14 in the 4th quarter. Terrific game by Aiden Chiles, eclipsed by Indiana RB Lee Beebe Jr. rushing for 203 yards. Josh Hoover scored the winning TD, but went 19-29 passing for 201 yards; not bad, but not in the Fernando zone. NW, as I believe the Wildcats will show in Week 5 in the opening game in renovated Ryan Field against Penn State, is LEGIT. Chip Kelly and Jerry Neuheisel have worked wonders with Chiles and the entire offense. The SEC may be deeper, but the B1G middle- and lower-level teams are stepping up. Indiana's 20th consecutive win did not come easy.

Just watched the full game highlights. NW had a great goal line stand early but then fumbled the snap in the endzone and took a safety. After a later touchdown, NW tried to get the two points back by going for two and failed. That mere two point gap created by that safety kept Indy just out of reach the rest of the way. It looks like NW is much improved this year.

Switching my pick. Originally had USC, but switched to Oregon because I couldn’t get the taste of throw up out of my mouth. Oregon 28-27 0 turnovers 0 sacks 284 yards passing. There are so many issues with this team right now. The OL is an absolute mess with both starting tackles PFF grades under 30, which includes the PSU game. I didn’t see anything against PSU to indicate it was any better. PSU was in the backfield, but just wasn’t athletic enough to make plays. Penalties are still an issue. Both coordinators are new. On defense, LBs are frequently out of position and the DL can’t get pressure. That’s a lot to clean up in one week. However, in Dan I trust.

In my era of playing football the rule of thumb was smash mouth football. Hit them hard, fast and often and play as one unit.. When i coached from 1976 to 2001. It was still the same. We weren't trying to hurt anyone, just be physical and dominate, both sides of the ball, every down and every play. I remember my Dad coming up to me after a game against the top team in our league and he said, "Your boys took the starch out of them from the get go. Nice win for the team!" Have any of you seen this Duck team take the starch out of anybody, this year?(PSU don't count). USC normally, even in a down year has a swagger to them! The Ducks need to knock that swagger back out into the parking lot. Mike, I love these breakdowns and all the great comments from the awesome posters. And DL needs to tweak somethings, now. Or fall on his sword of stubborness. But if I was coaching this team of great talent and potential, I would interject my one coaching philosophy that all my teams heard the first day of practice.
