  2. So is ESPN: https://www.espn.com.au/college-football/story/_/id/50278167/oregon-fires-offensive-coordinator-drew-mehringer
  3. I don't think Lanning has anywhere near a 'clean slate' right now. However, he did buy himself a little bit of time, and he now has the opportunity to show everybody if he has the right stuff to turn this thing around.
  4. My hope is that Lanning hasn't lost the locker room. Sure felt like the defense had a "What's the point" moment yesterday. Dan is a good lead man. Firing Meh', in my mind gives Lanning a clean slate. Let's go out and ruin some seasons for others. Starting with NU
  5. The OL play seems to have gotten consistently worse the last three years. This year, awful. Agree with posters about the offensive (pun intended) coaching needs a reboot top to bottom.
  6. Agree. Still 100% in on Lanning on my end. He made 1 bad decision. He made the right decision this morning when he fired Mehringer. Give him a chance to fix it.
  7. And Cliffy's interception was good!
  8. Lanning opting to take field goal attempts over going for it on fourth is also very telling that faith in this offense was shot. Fourth and one at goal... And a field goal is not Lanning and not what Lanning would have wanted to do. I applaud him for taking the field goal as that was the right thing to do. The two field goal attempts at 50+ yards was Lanning taking the risk for points rather than the risk for likely nothing. Those were desperation field goal attempts. If the game plan starts to factor in 50+ yard field goals your game plan is fundamentally broken... And it was. Defense broken yesterday and they were on the field for too darn long yet again. Also the offense should have absolutely put up more than 10 points which gives the defense breathing room if they are playing with a lead.
  9. AI needs help. Today, Andy K is the OC at Kansas. The way Penn State played in 2025 when Andy was there, I don't think K is Special. 😁 Auditor: One who counts the bodies after the battle. This relegation is a predictable move that comes too late. DUH! Maryland fired its DC the week before the head coach was fired after losing to Rutgers the following week. Accountability starts at the top; I think Dan knows this. Bad coaching on many fronts in 2026. But can good coaching overcome bad talent evaluation? Many 4* recruits on the field cannot block. What is of paramount importance now is inviting the players who aren't cutting it to transfer out and keeping quality recruits committed; the vultures are circling. This team has to be rebuilt via the portal. A one-year regression is understandable. But Clemsoning is not. In CFB, if you are not competing for championships, you are ignored. OT, but it truly ticks me off. Saturday's game being broadcast on Peacock means a less-than-robust viewing audience. This will be NW's 3rd appearance on the Bird this season. Absurd for a Top 25 NW football team that has lost one game by two points at Indiana and should be ranked in the teens and not the twenties.
  10. As OC at Ohio State, and now Northwestern, Chip appears to have found his place and groove. Hopefully, he has finally learned, that he is just not a head coach... with the one, "lightning in a bottle," exception at Oregon. But damn... he got us so close.

  12. From ESPN Oregon fires offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer - ESPN
  13. At this point, I absolutely agree. Let's see if Dan can learn, get his ego in check a bit, make better hiring decisions, and turn this listing ship around.
  14. I honestly feel that a humble Lanning could become a dangerous Lanning. A few smart coaching decisions could lead to roster retention which could lead to bigger and better things in the near future.
  15. New HC, just no. In fact, hell no 😊! Lanning screwed up with his OC and assessment of OL quality but that doesn’t mean he won’t learn and get better.
  16. Bravo David. Saturday's play calling was a crime against competence. Keeping Dak Moore around or behind the line of scrimmage all game kept the D around the line of scrimmage all game. Going deep to back up receivers is like setting up three point shots for roll players. 3rd and 9 two yard passes has the predictability of a dangerous drinking game. Abandoning a running game netting over six yards a rush for a hapless passing attach is peak Coach Meh. Killing your own drives with Tom foolery plays is icing on the clown cake.
  17. Good write up David. I feel myself or one of my good friends could have called plays yesterday and we would have won. You hit all the key points I saw, but I'll add one. After an 11-play opening drive that we ran for a 5-yards a pop average we blew the opportunity to focus on the run game and score points on drives 2-4 of the game. We had a chance to extend an early lead and take good game control.
  18. I just looked it up, and in his 2 years as OC at alabama, in his first season they won the national championship, and in his second season as OC they were runner-up. That doesn't exactly suck. And I like that he took over head coach at Maryland when that place was a total and absolute crap storm disaster. He stabilized the program. Got them into some Bowl games. And, along the way, learned that the head coaching role is not for him. I really know very very little about him. But I love the fact that he has no desire to be a head coach. It's great when people have enough maturity to know where their strengths are and know where their skills and abilities are best utilized. At a minimum, he appears to be somebody definitely worth taking a look at.
  19. A coach's main job is to put the players in a position to win. That didn't happen this year. And from what I saw in this most recent outing I'm afraid that many of the players rightfully lost confidence in their coaching. Quite a few displayed a lack of intensity during the game. Despite valiant efforts on Defense, the Offense never could get anything going on a consistent basis. All the players were let down by the coaching despite whatever effort they put in. Meh failed and if he is gone that's step one in righting the ship. It sends a message of accountability to the team and staff alike. It also lets the players know that those shortcomings weren't necessarily all on them. So start the search for a capable OC already. And right now bring in a consultant or two to address an Offense that adds up to less than the sum of its parts.
  20. I'm not so sure about that, Solar. If we continue losing, which at this point looks more likely than not, we are unfortunately going to turn into an incredibly fascinating story and tremendous cautionary tale. There are so many interesting angles with the team, beginning with the many 'experts' predicting that we would win the national championship this year, all the flash, marketing, tremendous amounts of money, NIL impact, ego, Nike, etc, etc. I'm a bit afraid we may have the makings of a new, upcoming, Michael Lewis best seller.
  21. I feel like I needed to get this out sooner than later as with the news breaking that Mehringer is out at Oregon. I had it mostly written but thankfully the children today were being cooperative and letting me wrap this up. The Duck's Loss to Illinois is on MehringerOn Sunday morning Dan Lanning made the announcement that the Ducks were parting ways with Offensive Coordinator Drew Mehringer. At this point it was pretty obvious that Mehringer was not up to the tas
  22. For grins, I utilized Google Gemini AI to see what it thought. The first four names are: Brennan Marion - UNLV OC Andy Kotelnicki - Penn State OC Major Applewhite - S. Alabama HC And, apparently for nostalgia, Chip Kelly
  23. Whoever the OC will be should be given wide latitude to remake the offensive staff. If it were me the only ones I’d retain would be Douglas and Samples.
  24. Spot on post. I don't think Dan is unaware of the very valid points you made. In today's world of CFB you cannot lose the off-season. Texas A&M's Mike Elko is in the same boat as Dan. And Elko doesn't have his 1st string QB out for a significant part of the season. But under a new OC, A&M QB Marcel Reese's play has regressed. Like Oregon, A&M is getting a terrible ROI from one of the most expensive rosters in CFB. There is nowhere to hide in the Power 2. The B1G, of course, has a few bottom feeders, but it is very difficult to win games, especially on the road. Unlike the SEC, Big Ten conference losses matter. Will anyone be surprised if Texas returns to the top 10 and Ole Miss stays there? Yesterday, Wisconsin upset USC and, in Iowa's case, a Minnesota defense that was carved up at Purdue shut down the Hawkeyes. In today's world of CFB, you cannot stock a roster, and you better have a top-drawer strength and conditioning program to minimize injuries. In terms of underperforming offenses, Oregon has B1G company. Michigan, UW, Penn State, Indiana, and even Ohio State are not running the ball at historic levels. O-line recruiting, development, and portal picking are at a premium. The marketing of the Oregon program has been extraordinary. But I think it's time for the Japan stuff and the other fluff to take a back seat to returning to the basics: blocking, tackling, and hitting the other guy in the face. Make Kelly Smelly!
