  2. How does this happen? Missouri absolutely throttled Florida. Very hard to take any of these ranking seriously. They are a joke!
  3. Unfortunately, I believe that MC will win a national championship before Coach Lanning will.
  4. While little can compare to the fun of Washington's 0-12 season in 2008, even 5-7 would be enjoyable. The Huskies are 3- 2, with their three wins against non-conference cupcakes, including a 16-14 win at home against Utah State. Their loss at USC might have been their best-played game of the year so far. Looking ahead on their schedule, they have Iowa, Oregon, and Indiana still on the schedule. An improved Nebraska team on the road is not a gimme. They should be underdogs in those games. They should be favored at Purdue and Michigan State, but Purdue has improved a bit. The Husky run offense is currently hampered by its three top running backs out with injuries. Had even one been available, they likely would have beaten USC. As they become available, I assume their run offense will improve. Here is a summary of their unenviable situation at running back: AI Overview: University of Washington running backs Quaid Carr and Jayden Limar are sidelined until at least November 1, 2026, with potential for longer or late-season absences. Head coach Jedd Fisch announced that the top running backs will not be re-evaluated until November 1, keeping them out for multiple key games. Running Back Injury Status Player Name Position / Status Injury & TimelineQuaid Carr Sophomore / Out Hand surgery; targeted for a late-season return or re-evaluation on November 1Jayden Limar Senior / Out Elbow injury; won't be re-evaluated until November 1 with an uncertain exact timelineJulian McMahan Sophomore / Out Season-ending ankle injury sustained in practice Jordan Washington Junior / Status Undetermined Sidelined with a lingering preseason neck injury
  5. Mehringer had a rough start, but I thought he called pretty good games the last two weeks. As long as he keeps improving, Oregon will be fine.
  6. Will coaches Dan Lanning and Mario Cristobal’s teams face off in the post season playoff? Miami is playing like I had hoped our Ducks would play this season. The second half of the season will be intruiging. Go Ducks!
  7. If I recall correctly the Chipster was not particularly fond of living in Eugene. Does anyone remember otherwise? It would surprise me if Coach Lanning replaces Coach Mehringer or supersedes Mehringer’s role.

Please booking sites, don't do us any favors.😳 Oregon Ducks open as favorites in Big Ten home opener vs. UCLAAfter opening as 12.5-point favorites, the spread from FanDuel Sportsbook has fallen one point to 11.5 points in favor of the Ducks. The money line odds also shifted, with Oregon decreasing from -530 odds to -480, and UCLA improving from +390 odds to +360. The total points spread also took a slight jump, improving from 58.5 points to 61.5 points. https://duckswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/ducks/football/2026/10/04/oregon-football-betting-preview-ucla-bruins/92090898007/

  13. It's been over fourteen years since Chip left to coach in the NFL. After a few unsuccessful head coaching stops he went back to what has always been his natural calling as an Offensive Coordinator. After a few years back at OC, it looks like this is what he wants to do at this point. Up until now I always scoffed at the idea of bringing him back both because I thought he'd bolt at the first chance to move up to head coach and also the power struggle he could create being one of the most successful coaches in UO history. But as he seems to be settling in with OC contentment, these concerns have faded with me. Also after so many years of coaching different teams with different personnel types, he seems comfortable with changing his plan to match his players rather than forcing the players to match his plan. Watching Northwestern's offense come to life with him in charge, has been highly entertaining. Chip always talks fondly of his time with the Ducks. His lack of enthusiasm for recruiting could be off set by the emergence of GMs and NIL. It seems like this would be a win win type of situation. Probably will never happen but it also kind of seems like it should. Thoughts?
  14. Today

  15. Thanks, Log. My tears are for the all-time winning coaches at their former programs: Matt Campbell, Pat Fitzgerald, and Kyle Whittingham (can you bench a QB making 4 Mill a year?). Cheers for David Braun, who now has a better winning percentage at Northwestern than Fitz in his first three seasons. And for OC Chip Kelly and QB coach Jerry Neuheisel. Who is that guy disguised as Aiden Chiles? And avant-garde coach Kelly brings back the Southwest Conference Veer offense. Wow! Mega-cheers for the new Ryan Field design team and for the team heading directly to the Standing Room Only student section at the game's conclusion. Cheers for PJ Fleck, who reclaimed a jug while his defense mugged Bryce Underwood and Michigan's offensive offense. Cig? Two RBs over 100 yards and two WRs over 100 yards in what a beatdown of Rutgers should look like. SC and UW? SC is a waste of talent. Other than QB, UW has no talent. Does Fisch have the $ to compete at the B1G top? Bob Chesney - Great start, but Incomplete. Grade coming on 10/11/26. Ditto for Matt Ruhle, with Indiana coming for a visit; also Incomplete. Luke Fickell - It is alive! On the other hand, Mike Locksley? DMV? No! DMW. Yes! Barry Odom off the B1G schnid. Brett Bielema, go to your room! I - Ohio State, Indiana - B1G game of the year, Week 7, Ohio State at Indiana. II - Oregon - Scheme? Important. Attitude? More important. Does Oregon have the chops to shut down UCLA's run game? Northwestern: Should have beaten Indiana? Another game where Oregon better buckle the chin strap. III - Iowa: bad loss to Ohio State. Minnesota: terrible loss to Miss State. UCLA & Nebraska: Legit? Wisconsin: Bouncing back and jumping around. IV - A B1G mess. Blackout the Whiteout game? Ruin the Bruins!
  16. Amen brother. All coaches must step up their crafts.
  17. Here are my Tiers, but I am projecting where folks finish power rankings wise, not what they have earned to date: A OSU & IU B OBD C UCLA, NW, IOWA D Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, USC, Michigan, Penn State, Washington, E Illinois, Rutgers, Maryland, MSU, Purdue I'm the least sure about Nebraska & MSU since I haven't paid attention. They may be tier D or E
  18. In my opinion, character counts a lot. Quality of character. Mr Riley seems short in this department. Poop runs downhill. The poor display of character on the USC team starts with him. He deserves to be OC for a Kiffin team.
  19. And the Montana State coach then called time out to set his D. Not sure if you can hike the ball with 1 second when the ref starts the play and step away. . . unless of course, you are at Michigan!
  20. Upon further review, here's my Big Ten tier list after week 5. A Tier: tOSU, Indiana Notes: Tearing apart teams before half is what you expect from A tier. No surprises here. IU's close game with NorthWestern says more about the Wildcats than the Hoosiers. B Tier: OBD, UCLA, NorthWestern Notes: OBD have some work to do before moving up. The Wild Cats look like the third best team in the BIG so far. C Tier: Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin Notes: Should beat anyone below them. Should lose to anyone above them. Just what you'd expect from C tier. D Tier: USC, Purdue, Michigan Notes: SUC's two barely wins against the so what tier barely move them up. I might be being generous with Michigan's placement here. So What Tier: Penn St, Washington, Illinois, Maryland MSU, Rutgers Notes: So what?
  21. Some people have a feel for the game and some don't, that is the part between the ears that is difficult to impossible to fix. Some like Dante Moore are unable to process his entire field of vision simultaneously, others struggle to extrapolate motion to intersection points (something Moore is actually extremely good at), or have the discipline with their eyes to recognize and react to the decision points. For them complicated if-then responsibilities ("multiple" defenses) just increase the odds of failure. I remember Lanning in his first year was asked what he looks for in a recruit and he said "first and foremost guys that know how to play the game of football." I think he needs to get back to that emphasis a bit more in the player evaluation. With regards to QB conservatism, Dan's #1 philosophy is don't turn the ball over. We have 2 turnovers in 4 games with one of them being special teams kick catch interference that wasn't called, so really one in 4 games. Secondarily there is an understanding that shorter passes are higher percentage throws, which all else being equal is true, but wide open is wide open and you should be able to see it and trigger on it without habitual reservation that it's a low percentage throw. You're at elite QB and your receivers are elite, go for it. I think for Dante, he is always going to be scared there is a safety coming over that he didn't see, because he can't see beyond his area of eye focus. My freshman year of highschool football my coach was an army drill Sergeant and we played 8 man football at the 1A level. I'll never forget him always yelling the word "Containment!". Never let anybody get outside of you if you're the widest players. Seems simple enough, until you aren't sure in the moment if you are the widest player or if the guy behind you is or should be the widest player on that particular play call. Not a problem in 8 man football, but in an 11 man Mint defense, maybe it's a big problem. Again I think it's such a huge thing for Lanning to go to the Seahawks instead of only recruiting on the bye week. It really shows he recognizes there are problems that won't be fixed if he keeps his team doing the same thing. I think of our Bball coach Altman who always seemed to find a way through the season to maximize the roster he has, to keep changing things methodically until everything was clicking as best it could. I'd like to see that become a permanent characteristic of a Dan Lanning team. Once we go to a 24 team playoff that will be the winning strategy. You'll get 3 mulligans a year, try things out that may not pan out, adjust, adjust, adjust until it all clicks.
